What you describe is what we here in the US call house arrest.
We do that to criminals…not law abiding citizens.

Widespread here is people getting notification over the phone without confirmation of their identity.
My son received it, and I also worked at a clinic where this was the common practice.

I guess they think HIPPA regulations can be suspended during the pandemic…
 
My family in Italy were permitted to go to the supermarket, 1 family member at a time.

Also the pharmacy. Again 1 family member at a time.

You needed to print a certificate in order to go out.

I assume there was an algorithm preventing the issuing of many certificates at once.

As the lockdown eased, there was no travel permitted between different regions.

Now it seems that they are practically open and socially distancing outdoors with masks.
 
Yes. San Marino is landlocked within Italy. Many of its citizens travel to and work in Italy daily.

I hope your father stays healthy. I hope this part of human history is over soon.

It’s been hard.

My mom died of Alzheimer’s during the lockdown.

No wake or funeral.

I haven been able to arrange the memorial mass because my sister and my uncle are in two different states.

It’s been hard accepting that she’s actually gone. I couldn’t be with her at the end.
 
We were able to attend the burial. But with social distancing protocols, and only 5 family members. And a priest from the Catholic cemetery.

The prayers at the grave site took about 6 minutes.
 
My dad passed away 22 years ago.

We had a nice Italian American wake and funeral mass.

He was somewhat young still. Only 64.

His sister in Italy had a mass for him there on the day of his funeral. The church was filled with family and friends.

My father had dozens of first cousins, his mother was one of I believe 10 children, his father was one of five.

They don’t distinguish between died with Covid and died FROM Covid. And at best, a lot is presumed and just lumped together…

also WRT the 1918 pandemic vs covid-19,… thankfully this virus isn’t as deadly as the one POTUS referenced,… to give you an idea of how bad things be imagine onset of symptom to death in 12 hours (which is what happened back then)

All the people where gathered together after WW1and on their way home when it struck - no such thing as social distancing then which caused the majority of the deaths especially in England where the solders went after the war. That Flu had huge opportunities to spread due to the end of WW1.
 
So we have lost more than twice as many Americans to this virus than we have lost in all the wars (combined) for the last 75 years, and the argument is that is not so bad? That its OK because we are not the absolute worst country in the world, just the fourth worst or something? Insanity.
 
17,000 will be a drop in the bucket compared to Covid-19 numbers right now. And this thing has not even run it’s course yet.

BTW Swine Flu of 2009 killed 12,469 people according to wiki.
 
He’s right.The e Perry’s Fsuchi and Birx said as much and that dire estimation was even if we did things perfectly.

Have you forgotten Japanese internment? Let us not be quick to judge. What is happening else where is mild. There is a point in which our freedom becomes entitlement. If fourteen days in quarantine, for example is tyranny, I submit it is a rather selective use of the concept.

But yes, we still lock up and place under house arrest those who are not criminals all the time. We just do not do this to middle-classed people as much as others.

That’s the most ridiculous logic I can ever imagine. Let’s say I die from whatever (trauma, Plane crash, whatever) and they look and see that I had a hangnail. My cause of death should not be attributed to the hangnail.

That’s why it’s called “cause of death.” And as doctors will point out, you need an autopsy to determine that cause of death. Given the similarity in symptoms with Covid and many other diseases, it is disingenuous to claim the cause of death as Covid when it has not been directly tied to the cause of death.

My hangnail hurt and caused me to trip. I banged my head on the corner of a desk from the fall killing me. Cause of death: hangnail… sorry, that is just ridiculous… but that is what they are doing with Covid in many cases.
