So what percentage of the world’s coronavirus cases do you calculate us as having? That’s what is at issue, right?
Don’t know.
You can check my post history, I have stated for a long time that the numbers are wrong.

But I do know the estimate you used for the world population was she a little over 500 million.

vz71:
You can run the numbers yourself, just calculate 4% of the current world population, which is googled at 7.594 billion.
Compare that to current populations of the various countries.
I don’t know what vz71 is talking about.
There are a number of uncharitable responses I could make…what do you think the world population is?
Just what you said it is. And if you divide it into the population of the US, which is 328.2 million, you get 0.04319, which rounds to 4%, just like tomarin said.

Okey-dokey then. I guess there can be no common ground. I use information to form opinion, not my opinions to form information

I use information to form opinion, not my opinions to form information
If that is a reference to me, it is not very charitable.
It would also be demonstrably false given the information I provided.

Perhaps you missed all of the news in Florida concerning many of the clinics turning in false numbers? That some clinics were claiming all tests that administered were positive…or perhaps the motorcycle casualty that was listed as a covid death.

As to my personal experience, my wife had an uncle died from a heart attack that the hospital tried to claim was a covid death…even in absence of a test.

Okay, I divided 331 million by 7.5 billion and still got 4.4 percent - same difference. So we still have 4 percent of the world’s population yet have 25% of the world’s coronavirus cases.

4.4 > 4.0

And considering the large numbers they represent, that is a lot.

Some on this board have been giving a great deal of volume to the numbers of cases.
But your calculations reduce it to a rounding error…or less.

Not sure why we need to argue about the percentage of the world’s population the U.S. represents when it’s an easily retrievable fact and not controversial as far as I know. Just for the record, I’m not trying to argue, just ascertain the relevant facts.

So you aren’t an American citizen?
I’m British. That’s why I can look objectively at what is happening there.
I have been a Conservative all my voting life and if I were American I would be a member of the Republican party. However, I would be one ashamed of my leader!
Even top Republican leaders are now saying its okay to distance themselves from Trump so they don’t lose the Senate.

That is a rare thing in the world news subforum.

I just find it difficult to simply overlook millions while listening to others fuss over only a few thousand.

It is not a lot compared to 22%, which is the percent of the world’s covid-19 deaths we have in the US. That’s deaths, not cases. Face it. The US is right now, today, the epicenter of this outbreak.

If you are to trivialize millions, then you shouldn’t even bat an eye at the thousands of covid cases.
Does anyone here understand what vz71’s point is here? I’ve asked several times and so has tomarin and pnewton, and we can’t figure it out. Supposedly there is a problem with stating that when about 4% of the world’s population has about 22% of the world’s covid-19 deaths it is doing much worse than most of the rest of the world, and qualifies for the title of “epicenter of the covid-19 outbreak.” But for the life of me I can’t figure out what that problem is.

When those few thousand are dying and the few million are doing just fine, it makes sense to overlook them in the context of what was being claimed.

Or when the millions don’t suit your narrative it makes sense to trivialize them.

If numbers of people are really important, then ALL of them are.

That word is now being used almost exclusively as a term for disagreement. This, for example, is almost a simple case of mathematics. Of course there is always inaccuracies in reporting, something which the United States hardly holds the patent on. Nor is the evidence strong that numbers are under-reported versus over-reported. I find it beyond the realm of all possible coincidence when evidence lines up person to person with those who are Trump supporters finding this, and those who are not finding that. Therefore, I say, for me, that I believe that is backwards.

I regret that the “Fake News” trope has been too overused. If there ever is any significantly fake new, or when there is, it will be the Trump who cried wolf once too often. I just cannot buy into this whole MSM boogeyman that has been built up. Mistakes will always be made. Those who listen just to the alt-right talking points though will be as blind as any liberal that every marched at Berkeley. The truth will always be somewhere in the middle, that is, the main stream (I include FOX in that).
