That word is now being used almost exclusively as a term for disagreement.
What word would that be?
I was reacting to a phrase, not a word.
And I even quoted it to prevent confusion.
Here it is again…
I use information to form opinion, not my opinions to form information
And again, if you are referring to me there, it is both uncharitable and false for the same reasons I already supplied.
Of course there is always inaccuracies in reporting
Then you agree with me.
Nor is the evidence strong that numbers are under-reported versus over-reported.
I didn’t make a claim one way or the other.
I am baffled as to why you would have to put words in my mouth on a point you already agree with me on.
I regret that the “Fake News” trope has been too overused.
Then you probably shouldn’t be using Snopes as a source.

#8 in deaths per capita (not including Andorra and San Marino) and #8 in cases per capita (not including San Marino). That’s really bad.
Why is it “really bad”? And it would actually be 8 and 11 if you drop those countries and assume China and India and Russia are telling the truth. How sure are you that it’s not a matter of testing and recordkeeping or even just honest reporting?

And we’re not even on the chart when it comes to new cases per capital.

It takes a lot more faith in some doubtful foreign government sources than in our own to accept this.

The U.S. is fifth per capita of all countries when it comes to cancer deaths. Does anybody really believe there’s that much more cancer in the U.S.? It’s probably high for any disease you want to name because of better diagnosis and acknowledged outcomes.

Math is what it is. I came up with 4.8%. There is still a lot more dead Americans than there should be, even if we were a mediocre country.
It gets worse. Since we are number 5 in cancer deaths, and since cancer deaths are surely Trump’'s fault, that is another thing discerning voters ought to know.

I thought I saw the statistic that we have 40% of the world’s cases despite having only 4% of the world’s population. Is that not true?
I’ve been tracking the data on a spread sheet since 4/13/2020. The US peaked at 33.5% of the world cases on 4/30. As of this morning 8/12 it is at 25.8%

Varies. My state prohibits local leaders from making any mask mandate. There is an ongoing law suite about that. So the mask rules, if any, are the decision of each private business into which a person may enter. Outside of that, people do what they like.

What’s the rules on kids wearing them in the US?
In my State, masks are mandatory inside any establishment or where 6 foot rule cannot be achieved. Governor is Republican. Schools will start to open on Monday.

We were under a “Stay at home” Order from March to June.
After that it went to a “Safer at Home” Order which expires Aug 31.

I’ve been working from since March.

I’m British. That’s why I can look objectively at what is happening there.
I’m in the USA, and I often listen to news about the USA as reported by other countries. It is interesting to get outside perspectives.

And the U.S. is not only fifth in the occurrence of cancer. It gets even worse.

The U.S. has about double the rate of neurological disorders compared to comparable countries. Undoubtedly that’s Trump’s fault and should be alarming.

I went on Safari back in 2017, after a day of hunting we would come back to the village bar. The international news playing on the Tele was anything but kind to Trump.

I was in Singapore at the begining of the year. At the time there was a rumor of some weird flu spreading in China. The cab driver I had thought that Trump was quite the funny character and wanted to know what Americans think. Later, during the same trip, I encountered Trump’a likeness on advertisements. Overall it was quite a different perspective.

The data for covid-19 deaths is reported by each of those countries. I can understand being doubtful about the data from one or two of the countries. But 141 of them? That strains credulity to think that all those nations are grossly under reporting their covid-19 deaths to such a huge degree and the US is over reporting. This is another example of how distrust in public institutions (ours and those of other nations) is absolutely required to maintain the fiction that Trump is at all grounded in reality. The only way one can stay with him is to join him in his fantasy world.

I don’t doubt our own except to the extent the CDC was erroneously reporting for awhle. (Even your liberal publications acknowledged that). Was that significant? I don’t know, and am inclined to doubt it.

But other than a few first world nations that have responsible governments, no, I don’t trust what a single one of them claims. Why should I trust some dictatorship or some nation that doesn’t even have doctors in most of the countryside?

I guess anything to make the US look bad
Trump is the master at that. Sadly, he has made the USA the laughing stock of the world.
I feel bad for the American people.
Please inform us how President Trump has made the USA the laughing stock of the world?

I think he has helped make the democrat party the laughing stock of the world
and the denocrat party has demonstrated itself to be made up of petulant
children. How can world leaders even take the democrat party seriously after their
antics over the last 4 years? @Montrose

And where do you get your data from? I can’t imagine being so obssessed over
covid-19 to make a spreadsheet on it.

And where do you get your data from?
https://www.bing.com/search?q=corona+data

&

bing is the quickest.
go to bing and type in “corona data new zealand” You’ll get the results from New Zealand
instant results from the World CDC

Just typing in “corona data” brings up in addition to Global & US, it brings up your State and your County if your location is known.
I can’t imagine being so obssessed over
covid-19 to make a spreadsheet on it.
Naysayers obsession with defending Trump provide me with my own.

Over 600,000 died of cancer in the U.S. in 2019. That’s .18%. In Nigera, 41,000 are said to have died of cancer. That’s .02%.

Would you say with confidence that the death rate from cancer in the U.S. is 1/9 of what it is in Nigeria?

Or would you think perhaps the diagnosis and reporting is better in the U.S.?

Life expectancy in Nigeria is 52 approx.
Yours is 76 to 81( men / women) approx
Reporting may not be perfect but reasons behind the differences may be.
It is kind of sad to recur to comparisons as such when socioeconomic differences are also painfully obvious .
At the end of the day it is about persons suffering no matter where.
You can do better than that , Ridgerunner…
