I did not misspeak. You misread. I did not say abortion was hilarious.

What I found hilariously funny was that the democrats are somehow responsible for the severity of COVID because of the Russian “hoax”.

That’s the most ridiculous logic I can ever imagine. Let’s say I die from whatever (trauma, Plane crash, whatever) and they look and see that I had a hangnail. My cause of death should not be attributed to the hangnail.

As related to this topic, I would say those who support Trump even in bad decisions are the ones making the case that America is not a very good country. We have done poorly, based on the numbers, in handling this crisis. When Trump is defended based on the premise nothing better could have been done, then the unspoken part of that is that nothing better could have been done by Americans, as others in the world have clearly done better. A defense of Trump, in this specific crisis, by default is a condemnation of the country.

I don’t think that is objectively demonstrated by anyone. The U.S. is the third largest country. Statistics from the first two are not reliable, each for separate reasons. There are reasons other than “poor performance” why the U.S. would be tenth in total cases (not counting India or China or Russia or any other unreliable reporters) and 13th in known deaths.

What we keep seeing is “U.S. has more Covid cases than any other country” as if that proves anything other than that we’re the third largest country and the first two are unreliable reporters.

This country is not even in the top 20 when it comes to new cases per capita.

Take out the word “new” (which is ambiguous) and you’ve got a patently false statement, as @RidgeSprinter showed you here. The US is 10th worst in the world. And if you only count nations with more than 80,000 people, the US is 8th worst. But rather than look at how many are worse than the US, it is more relevant to look at the countries that are doing better per capital. There are 141 of them. Some of the countries with fewer per capita covid deaths are:

Does anyone still remember “The Ballad of Irving” ? (The 142nd fastest gun in the West). That is the US when it comes to covid. The numbers even work out just right to fit the song (minus the Jewish overtones).

I thought I saw the statistic that we have 40% of the world’s cases despite having only 4% of the world’s population. Is that not true?

No, it is not.
You can run the numbers yourself, just calculate 4% of the current world population, which is googled at 7.594 billion.
Compare that to current populations of the various countries.
 
There are 20 million cases of coronavirus worldwide and we have 5 million of them. 5 over 20 is 25 percent.

Our population is 331 million and the world’s population is 7 billion so that comes to about 4% of the world’s population.

25% seems pretty high given that we’re only 4% of humanity.

So what percentage of the world’s coronavirus cases do you calculate us as having? That’s what is at issue, right?

Math is what it is. I came up with 4.8%. There is still a lot more dead Americans than there should be, even if we were a mediocre country.
