Lamb,
You are SO right! I do abandon things to God, but it seems He takes His sweet ol’ time. I know He’s in control, but gosh, sometimes human time is needed. I try to put the whole thing in perspective and think we are only here for a short time and but a step away from eternity. But it’s hard some days. I’m trying to get myself and family to heaven, that’s all. What a job! Thanks for the great advice! Much love…

**PRAYER TO ST. MONICA

Dear St. Monica,
troubled wife and mother,
many sorrows pierced your heart during your lifetime.
Yet, you never despaired or lost faith.
With confidence, persistence, and profound faith,
you prayed daily for the conversion
of your beloved husband, Patricius,
and your beloved son, Augustine;
your prayers were answered.
Grant me that same fortitude, patience,
and trust in the Lord.
Intercede for me, dear St. Monica,
that God may favorably hear my plea for:

the conversion of my husband and the strong faith of my son, the conversion of all sinners in my family and of the spouses being prayed for here by CAF members,

and grant me the grace to accept His Will in all things,
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.
Amen.

Lord, I commend all husbands and wives
represented in this thread to you this day,
That you would raise us up to be men and women after your own heart.
That you would cause us to grow in wisdom and in knowledge of you
and that these husbands become holy and spiritual heads of these homes,
and that these wives become and remain vessels that shine your light continuously.
Keep us all obedient to your will and humble in mind and action.
Amen.**

Thanks for the clarification Lamb S.–I will praying to St. Monica until my husband becomes a “practicing catholic”

Hi, I am new to this thread, but am truly inspired by the faith and support I find here. I am not sure I belong, as my husband converted to Catholism before we were married. I have been very blessed for the first six years of our marriage. We have four (five in August) children 5 1/2 and under. It seems, though, in the last six months my husbands faith has fallen by the wayside, and is merely an after thought in his life. I feel like I am the only parent teaching our children in their faith. He seems like only a reluctant by stander lately. I know this is due to his recently aquired alchoholism 😦 Or maybe it is the other way around. Maybe he turned to alchohol when he no longer had a relationship with our loving Lord. The outward actions are there…he goes to church on Sundays and says prayers before meals and some short night prayers with the kids, but that is where it ends. He has told me that he finds it hard to beleive in the Holy Eucharist anymore, and this breaks my heart!! I have been praying relentlessly to our Lord and our Lady for months, with a few ups and downs in between as far as his faith goes. If we could be included in your prayers as you all are now in mine, I will be eternally gratefull!! Thanks.

GStewart,
Praying very hard for your husband and for your faithfulness to him.

GStewart, you as all others here are in my prayers. I pray for your relationship with your husband, and for his faith in God to return, granting him new-found passion for all that he does as a father, husband, and servant of God.

Beautiful – ditto! 🙂

GStewart, I’m sorry that you are going through this. My husband is not an alcoholic, but I do have an alcoholic in the family and I know how hard it is. Many people have benefitted from Al-Anon, the group for family members of alcoholics. It wasn’t for me, but everyone is different so it might be worth looking into. And of course, keep praying for St. Monica’s intercession – her husband was an alcoholic, so she knows what it’s like.

It certainly is clear to me that alcohol is a tool used very often by the devil to separate people from God. :crying: We must not give up – keep praying that the chains of addiction will be broken and replaced with “chains” of grace. :crossrc: :heaven:

I’ve added a few prayers at the bottom that I pray daily – you can change them to fit the person you’re praying for (that’s what I’ve done). God bless you all!

:knight2: The St. Michael Prayer

St. Michael the Archangel
Defend us in battle
Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil
May God rebuke him we humbly pray
And do thou, O prince of the Heavenly Host
By the power of God
Cast into hell satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

:angel1: Prayer to Your Guardian Angel

Angels of God, who are my family’s guardians
To whom Merciful God entrusted all of us
Enlighten and keep us this day
Guard and lead us, Amen.

Another prayer I learned not too long ago and thought I’d share:

**Morning Offering

Dear Lord,
I do not know what will happen to me today
I only know that nothing will happen that was not forseen by you and directed to my greater good for all eternity.
I adore your holy and unfathomable plans
and submit to them with all my heart
for love of you, the Pope, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Amen.**

I have to admit, sometimes my heart doesn’t want to submit completely, because I don’t understand His plans. 😊 But I keep praying this prayer anyway, because the more I pray, the more I trust, and the more I do submit to His plans. God knows our hearts, and knows I’m trying to want and do His will, even if I fail often. ❤️

This prayer and the St. Michael prayer and Guardian Angel prayer, along with the Memorarae and the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet are all on a CD you can get free at www.CatholiCity.com. I put it on in the car so I can pray “hands-free.” 😉

You have definitely found a home for your prayer intentions here on the St. Monica thread. Many of us have husbands who are outside the faith, or are lapsed, or are suffering from addiction.

My DH is an active alcoholic in deep denial of his addiction. “I can quit anytime I want to. I’ve gone months/weeks without touching a drop and didn’t need/miss it!”

If this sounds like your family member RAISE YOUR HAND.

All we can do is pray for them and take care of ourselves and our children. Praying for others along with our spoused increases the blessings on you and helps you to feel less alone. We all pray for our spouses and for each other here and thousands of prayers are raised to Our Heavenly Father every day!

O.K. ladies, I’m starting this Novena AGAIN! I think I’ve done it many times…but I’m sure St. Monica did it thousands! So - Day 1 Novena to St. Monica - done. I’m waiting…

This sounds very familiar. Except, several times recently, he has admitted his alchoholism to me, only to drink anyway. St. Monica, HELP!! Thank you all for your prayers and understanding.

:yup:
GStewart, it sounds like your husband may be one step ahead of some. Admitting it is after all the first step. Now he needs courage, and faith to take action to remove the wicked crutch he has leaned on for strength. Our prayers are with you and your husband, may he find that courage and faith soon. :grouphug:
