Bless you Belle! What a beautiful prayer to add to my daily prayers also. Thank you for sharing.:blessyou:

HAND RAISED 😉 :yup:

:yup:
GStewart, it sounds like your husband may be one step ahead of some. Admitting it is after all the first step. Now he needs courage, and faith to take action to remove the wicked crutch he has leaned on for strength. Our prayers are with you and your husband, may he find that courage and faith soon. :grouphug:
Thank you…so much!

PRAYER TO ST. MONICA

Dear St. Monica,
troubled wife and mother,
many sorrows pierced your heart during your lifetime.
Yet, you never despaired or lost faith.
With confidence, persistence, and profound faith,
you prayed daily for the conversion
of your beloved husband, Patricius,
and your beloved son, Augustine;
your prayers were answered.
Grant me that same fortitude, patience,
and trust in the Lord.
Intercede for me, dear St. Monica,
that God may favorably hear my plea for

the conversion of my husband and the strong faith of my son, the conversion of all sinners in my family and of the spouses being prayed for here by CAF members,

and grant me the grace to accept His Will in all things,
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.

Amen.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.

Well, after many, many months of prayer, my DH has a job interview tomorrow! 😃 It’s not for a job he really wants, but at this point we need something, so I’m very thankful. It’s funny, because I’ve been praying that he could find a job “soon” and this week I started praying that he’d find a job “this week” because we’re at the end of our rope. (The job isn’t his yet, but I’m very hopeful. He’s very overqualified for it!) Thank you God and St. Monica! 😃

(intentions of the heart)

and grant me the grace to accept His Will in all things,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.
Amen.

Lord, I commend all husbands and wives
represented in this thread to you this day,
That you would raise us up to be men and
women after your own heart.
That you would cause us to grow in wisdom and
in knowledge of you and that these husbands
become holy and spiritual heads of these homes,
and that these wives become and remain vessels
that shine your light continuously.
Keep us all obedient to your will and humble
in mind and action.
Amen.

I wanted to offer all you ladies a story of hope. My mother in law is a devout cradle Catholic; she raised seven children in the Church, without the help of my father in law, who turned out (after the marriage) to be agnostic.

To be fair, he loves my MIL very, very much, but was impatient often with coming home and finding her saying the Rosary, while the dishes weren’t done! (No, he did not help with any housework–still doesn’t.) My husband, who is the sixth of the seven kids, remembers being told how once Dad took the spark plugs out of the car so that Mom couldn’t drive the kids and herself to Mass. She simply walked them there, a few miles probably.

Anyway, they had been married for at least 40 years by the time I met my now-husband. The same month we married, my father in law was received into the Catholic Church through RCIA–he was baptized, confirmed and communed on the same day! I remember holding my five year old niece, Megan, on my lap, standing up so she could peer over the heads in front and see Granddad get baptized. Then she turned to me and said, “Someday, EVERYbody will be baptized!”

My MIL, bless her, never lost hope that her husband would convert. I remember when we were getting the cake ready for the “baptism party” as the little kids called it, I turned to her and said, “Water on rock, right?” and she smiled and said, “Forty years of prayer, that’s right!”

So do not lose hope. If you are praying for your husband to receive Christ and the Church, it may take longer than you would like, but God works in His own time. 🙂

For anyone who is facing desperation, I wanted to share the following prayer with you. I have a version of this prayer on my refrigerator and I try to say it as often as I notice it (which isn’t often enough considering I just dug it out from underneath some receipts and coupons… ) This prayer was shared with me by a good friend, and I just found the story behind it on the web:
THE SECRET OF SANCTITY: by Cardinal Mercier
During a retreat, Cardinal Mercier <d 1926> was asked to reveal what he considered “the secret of sanctity,” at the convent of the Religious of the Sacred Heart in Brussels, Belgium. Every day, for five minutes restrain your imagination; close your eyes, as it were, and your ears, to all earthly impressions so as to be able to withdraw into the sanctuary of your baptized soul, the Temple of God within. Then address the Holy Spirit in words like this:
O Holy Spirit, Beloved of my soul, I adore You. Enlighten, strengthen, guide, comfort and console me. Tell me what I ought to do and command me to do it. I promise to be submissive in everything that You permit to happen to me, only show me what is Your will. (and give me the grace to do it).
If you do this, you will spend your life in contentment and peace. You will have abundant consolation even amidst troubles, for you will receive grace in proportion to your burdens, until the day when you will reach heaven weighted with precious merits. Also called the Secret of Sanctity.
source

The version on my refrigerator is almost the same:

O Holy Spirit, beloved of my soul… I adore You.

Enlighten me, guide me, strengthen me, console me.

Tell me what I should do… give me Your orders.

I promise to submit myself to all that you desire of me and to accept all that You permit to happen to me.

Let me only know Your will.***

I think it’s just a beautiful prayer and I hope anyone facing desperate times will find it to be a consolation and aid to them.

God bless you ladies! Thank you for all your prayers on behalf of my family. You and your families remain in my prayers as well.

That is so very beautiful. Good for her for keeping the faith in spite of her husband. What a wonderful, wonderful story.

Well, after many, many months of prayer, my DH has a job interview tomorrow! :D… (The job isn’t his yet, but I’m very hopeful. He’s very overqualified for it!) Thank you God and St. Monica! 😃
My prayers are with you and your husband for tomorrow Belle, May all go well at the interview!

“O Mother of God, our Patroness, continue to protect our small family, our congregation with your Holy Omophorion and under Your holy protection we shall not perish, even if all hell is against us. Amen”

Day 2 Novena, done. Please, St. Monica, help!!
Mom, My prayers are with you. Keep in mind, that even the darkest of nights, is broken by a glorious sunrise. Have faith, love and devotion, it will carry you through the toughest of times.

O Christ Jesus,
when all is darkness
and we feel our weakness and helplessness,
give us the sense of Your presence,
Your love, and Your strength.
Help us to have perfect trust
in Your protecting love
and strengthening power,
so that nothing may frighten or worry us,
for, living close to You,
we shall see Your hand,
Your purpose, Your will through all things.
Amen.

Thank you BeeSweet! What a wonderful prayer. The idea of closing your eyes each day and shutting out all other thoughts and interference is something I do practice (almost) daily ;), for the sake of listening for guidance. If nothing more, I find that it is a mere 10 minutes of silence offered to God. I look very forward to this quiet time, and it does bring me great peace. Thanks for sharing!

On the prayer intentions thread this morning Augustine posted this beautiful story, and I would like to pass it along on this thread. It’s a little long, but, I truly enjoyed it, so here goes:

A long time ago in China , a girl named Li-Li got married & went to live with her husband and mother-in-law. In a very short time, Li-Li found that she couldn’t get along with her mother-in-law at all. Their personalities were very different, and Li-Li was angered by many of her mother-in-law’s habits. In addition, she criticized Li-Li constantly. Days passed, and weeks passed. Li-Li and her mother-in-law never stopped arguing and fighting. But what made the situation even worse was that, according to ancient Chinese tradition, Li-Li had to bow to her mother-in-law and obey her every wish. All the anger and unhappiness in the house was causing Li-Li’s poor husband great distress.

Finally, Li-Li could not stand her mother-in-law’s bad temper and dictatorship any longer, and she decided to do something about it! Li-Li went to see her father’s good friend, Mr. Huang, who sold herbs. She told him the situation and asked if he would give her some poison so that she could solve the problem once and for all.

Mr. Huang thought for awhile, and finally said, “Li-Li, I will help you solve your problem, but you must listen to me and obey what I tell you.”

Li-Li said, "Yes, Mr. Huang, I will do whatever you tell me to do."Mr. Huang went into the back room, and returned in a few minutes with a package of herbs. He told Li-Li, "You can’t use a quick-acting poison to get rid of your mother-in-law, because that would cause people to become suspicious. Therefore, I have given you a number of herbs that will slowly build up poison in her body. Every other day prepare some delicious meal and put a little of these herbs in her serving. Now, in order to make sure that nobody suspect you when she dies, you must be very careful to act very friendly towards her. “Don’t argue with her, obey her every wish, and treat her like a queen.” Li-Li was so happy. She thanked Mr. Huang and hurried home to start her plot of murdering her mother-in-law. Weeks went by, and months went by, and every other day, Li-Li served the specially treated food to her mother-in-law.She remembered what Mr. Huang had said about avoiding suspicion, so she controlled her temper, obeyed her mother-in-law, and treated her like her own mother.

After six months had passed, the whole household had changed. Li-Li had practiced controlling her temper so much that she found that she almost never got mad or upset. She hadn’t had an argument with her mother-in-law in six months because she now seemed much kinder and easier to get along with.

The mother-in-law’s attitude toward Li-Li changed, and she began to love Li-Li like her own daughter. She kept telling friends and relatives that Li-Li was the best daughter-in-law one could ever find. Li-Li and her mother-in-law were now treating each other like a real mother and daughter. Li-Li’s husband was very happy to see what was happening. One day, Li-Li came to see Mr. Huang and asked for his help again She said, “Dear Mr. Huang, please help me to keep the poison from killing my mother-in-law. She’s changed into such a nice woman, and I love her like my own mother. I do not want her to die because of the poison I gave her.”

Mr. Huang smiled and nodded his head. “Li-Li, there’s nothing to worry about. I never gave you any poison. The herbs I gave you were vitamins to improve her health. The only poison was in your mind and your attitude toward her, but that has been all washed away by the love which you gave to her.”

HAVE YOU REALIZED that how you treat others is exactly how they will treat you? There is a wise Chinese saying: “The person who loves others will also be loved in return.” God might be trying to work in another person’s life through you.

Catherine, thank you so much for this. I really should remember this as I pray for my husband to be released from his addiction. I prayed HIM into the church as well! It took me 20 years of praying and being a living example raising our three older kids, but he finally made it.

Sometimes it just feels so frustrating because I feel like I got him into the church with endless prayers to have another obstacle thrown in front of me. I guess all I was seeing was the obstacle and not looking for the sunshine on the other side. As you said “Water on rock!” Keep praying and wearing away at that stone and eventually it will be a mere speck of sand.
