**PRAYER TO ST. MONICA

Dear St. Monica,
troubled wife and mother,
many sorrows pierced your heart during your lifetime.
Yet, you never despaired or lost faith.
With confidence, persistence, and profound faith,
you prayed daily for the conversion
of your beloved husband, Patricius,
and your beloved son, Augustine;
your prayers were answered.
Grant me that same fortitude, patience,
and trust in the Lord.
Intercede for me, dear St. Monica,
that God may favorably hear my plea for

the conversion of my husband and the strong faith of my son, the conversion of all sinners in my family and of the spouses being prayed for here by CAF members,**

and grant me the grace to accept His Will in all things,
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.

Amen.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.

I’ve started the novena but I am only on day 2 today. I have realised that the very best I can do for my husband is to not be with him in the marriage but to pray for him. God has shown me that this is the greatest love I can give him. I feel I can be closer to him through prayer than we were as a couple. Although I wanted this marriage to work so much, I can’t see that happening.
I find the days so sad and sometimes hard to get through. I miss him and I feel empty. But everytime I feel depressed about us, I pray for him so at least I am doing something worthwhile and helpful for him. I am sad that my son will have to have this access stuff. It’s not what I wanted for any of my children.
Prayers for all of you wives!
Hello Jules11,
I understand you completly. I too felt the same as you-I surrendered our marriage to God. Although many may not agree with me I granted my husband “free will”. Giving him the choice to love me (just as Jesus). And although for a month or so…he did what he wished (as I patiently suffered). With prayer to St. Monica, he has come to love God. Let me warn you however, he found God with much sacrifice. Today, with the help of our Lord, we are attempting to reconstruct our marriage.

I praise you for being a woman of faith. With your trust on the Lord, he will guide you to his will.

Lord, I commend all husbands and wives
represented in this thread to you this day,
That you would raise us up to be men and women after your own heart.
That you would cause us to grow in wisdom and in knowledge of you
and that these husbands become holy and spiritual heads of these homes,
and that these wives become and remain vessels that shine your light continuously.
Keep us all obedient to Your Will, and humble in mind and action.
Amen.

Well, I’m beginning a new novena. You can’t pray too much, right? I usually don’t state (on here) my intentions specifically, but I am now. I would really appreciate if anyone could offer a specific Hail Mary or anything for my parents’ marriage. My parents have been married nearly 35 years, but my father is an alcoholic and it’s proving more and more difficult for my mother to deal with. It’s hard for all of us – because as many of you sadly know, when alcohol is there, my Dad isn’t my Dad – he’s someone else. :crying: It’s not only our relationships I fear for, but for his soul especially, as he continually tells me lately that he’s mad at God for not answering his prayers. (He won’t listen when I tell him that maybe that’s because God is waiting for him to sober up first – you know you can’t tell an alcoholic anything though. ) So, even though my mom isn’t posting on here, she is praying the novena to St. Monica, and I’d appreciate that if you happen to think of me or pray for me (and my DH), you include her (and my Dad) too.

Thank you so much friends. I know you all have your own heartaches, so I feel bad for asking, but I know the power of prayer and we really need it. Rest assured I continue to pray for all of you as well. God bless.

Thank you so much! :hug1: If we never meet on earth, I hope we do in heaven one day. 😃 Perhaps we can all gather around St. Monica and thank her and each other for interceding for each other. 😃

That is great that you are able to rebuild your marriage. I do not think there will be any rebuilding for me, unless there is a miracle. But miracles need the person to cooperate even a little, and he is in denial that he does anything wrong. I do pray that God opens his heart, not for my sake, but for the sake of his soul.

Thanks Eli, I’m sorry we share that pain. 😦 You’re a sweetie. :hug1:

Belle, I too would like to say how sorry I am, for your Mother, and for you and your siblings. I also grew up with an alcoholic father, and you’re right - when the alcohol’s there - he’s not the same. I share in your situationl, My Mother, is still with My Father, almost 50 Years! God Bless Her, the sorrow she’s been through.
So Belle, this is for all the Mothers out there who suffered, and endured difficult marriages. They’ve been through so much, and they need our prayers. This is for our Fathers as well, who we implore God to reach out to, and show them the way. Their souls need our prayers. May God come into their marriages, and bring peace to their lives. May he help to heal the wounds of the past, and restore their marriage with faith, trust, love and respect for one another, and for You Almighty God.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

((((((((Diana)))))))

Thank you for your prayers. :hug1: You know, the funny thing is, I never knew he was an alcoholic until I was in college. Now it’s very apparent of course 😦 but growing up, I idolized him as so many daughters do with their fathers. He was never abusive, never mean, not a “typical” drunk at all…he’s a “functioning alcoholic.” He always went to Mass, always had a strong faith, and he and my mother raised us that way, thank God. I honestly believe that Satan is very unhappy with that, and so he uses alcohol as a wedge between my parents, between my father and us “kids,” between my father and God. It’s very disturbing.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe I read that St. Monica’s husband was a nasty alcoholic, and so it’s just another reason I’m drawn to her and trust in her intercession for us. I’m also drawn to St. Joseph lately (I’m drawn to a lot of saints!) because he was so instrumental yet there isn’t one word of his recorded in the Bible. (Not to mention that my DH is something of a carpenter, so I’m hoping he picks up other traits in common with St. Joseph 😉 )

I also wanted to share this with all of you: I’m reading a book called The Secret Diary of Elisabeth Leseur. It is excellent! She was a devout woman whose husband was an atheist. After her death at an early age (after a life of physical, spiritual, and emotional suffering) her husband read her diaries and was so moved by her love and prayers for him that he became a Roman Catholic priest! :clapping: Her view of suffering is so amazing – that it might be used for the redemption of her husband and loved ones.

I of course also highly recommend the Diary of St. Faustina (see my signature for a link). What a blessing it is.

May God bless all of you today. :grouphug: Despite our sufferings, we are truly blessed…there are so many people with the same problems as us, but they have no faith and no hope. Thank you Lord Jesus, that we know you!! ❤️

I’ve read really wonderful things about this woman, isn’t she a candidate for sainthood? How many pages is the book? I’m wondering lately if it would take my death for my husband to convert. It’s a sobering thought, makes me contemplate where the priority is, is it for my own peace of mind and happiness that I pray for his conversion, or is it for the health and wellbeing of his eternal soul? Much of my prayer for him is really for my son, but even that is in my own self interest. Purity of intention is a serious challenge.
