Ladies:

Please pray for my dh. I have done the St. Monica Novena 3 times (I think). Right now, this moment, I cannot pray the Novena. I am emotionally drained and physically worn/sick. Please remember, however, that I love dh. I pray for all of us on this thread daily. Keeping all of you in prayer. Much love…👍

Novena day 4

Friends,
You guys are amazing, so much information and support. I am blessed to have found this site.😃

Jules here is a hug::hug1:

Update on St. Monica statue: I moved her to a special bookcase that is in my hallway in the wall. It is part of the wall can’t explain. I have made it like a little altar. One shelf has a pic of the guardian angel, another pic of sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary. Another shelf has St. Monica and OUr Virgen of Guadalupe with candles and another shelf has two rosaries.
The last shelf is empty b/c my 18 month old can reach it.

You should take a picture of your special place so we can see the place of honor you have chosen. Our little shrines are so meaningful and special and it’s nice to share with others how you are honoring our Saints and Our Lord.

mom, you got it. I continue to remember all here in my novena. :grouphug:

Though incredibly difficult, try to remember what scripture tells us:

2 Corinthians 12

8Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
❤️
Believe me, I know it’s not easy, but we just have to keep trying. I have a very hard time embracing my weaknesses…it’s something that I’m sure God knows is very hard for us, but we can do it. :hug1:

That sounds beautiful! 😃 I second Lamb’s idea about taking a picture to share with us if you can. I think it’s time I set up a shrine too…

I continue to remember all of you and your marriages in my prayers. :grouphug:

Novena day 5…

PRAYER TO ST. MONICA

Dear St. Monica,
troubled wife and mother,
many sorrows pierced your heart during your lifetime.
Yet, you never despaired or lost faith.
With confidence, persistence, and profound faith,
you prayed daily for the conversion
of your beloved husband, Patricius,
and your beloved son, Augustine;
your prayers were answered.
Grant me that same fortitude, patience,
and trust in the Lord.
Intercede for me, dear St. Monica,
that God may favorably hear my plea for:

the conversion of my husband, the strong faith of our daughter,
the perpetual sobriety of my father and my parents’ marriage,
and for all the marriages represented in this thread

and grant me the grace to accept His Will in all things,
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.
Amen.

Lord, I commend all husbands and wives
represented in this thread to you this day,
That you would raise us up to be men and
women after your own heart.
That you would cause us to grow in wisdom and
in knowledge of you and that these husbands
become holy and spiritual heads of these homes,
and that these wives become and remain vessels
that shine your light continuously.
Keep us all obedient to your will and humble
in mind and action.
Amen.

m4t, I have not ceased to pray for you and all of the ladies here on the St.M thread. It is so endlessly painful and wearisome fighting this battle and the prayers we share with one another are needed more than any other I can think of. I believe satan has his evil claws on and in marriages because he knows a Sacred and Holy marriage is a detriment to his evil ways. It is his goal to ruin and separate us from God and His awesome love. What better way to separate people from God than to interfere with marriage?

I reiterate to you, please take time to take care of yourself. Give yourself 30 minutes a day if you possibly can to recharge your battery. You need to pray, meditate, read, have a cup of coffee or tea to just center and calm you mind and soul. Be sure you get enough sleep too. When you are tired and exhausted from lack of sleep your troubles seem to be magnified by about a million. Oh, and a good soak in a bubble bath does wonders for the tired muscles worn out from being tense and stressed. 👍 A peaceful calm soul is much better equipped to deal with the insanity being dealt to us by our straying and/or troubled spouses.

Another aspect of taking care of yourself is to be sure you get to Mass every week and possible begin attending daily Mass. My priest/SD advised me early in my crisis to begin attending daily Mass, and I believe this little 30 minutes three times a week in addition to Sunday Mass has been my salvation. Yes, there are still times when the stress absolutely overcomes me, but I seem to be much better equipped to deal with the stress since I have been taking time to focus on myself.

The sacrament of Reconciliation is also a wonderful gift our Catholic faith has given us. Keeping your “house” in order gives so much peace to your life.

I was reminded it is not selfish to pray for and take care of yourself, and I have to remember I am also one of God’s creation and am just like everyone else I look at as more important than me. So pray for yourself equally if not more than you do others! When you take care of yourself, you are able to take care of the others around you better because you are the best you can be.

And, in all honesty, taking time to share and pray here on the forums has been a big help too. It helped me to realize a number of things.

  1. *]I’m not alone
*]I have a place with new friends who will pray with and for me.
*]I am growing in holiness by exploring my faith and praying for others
*]I find peace when I’m sharing and spending time here even if it is in cyberspace.
*]I have a HUGE support network that will encourage me, advise me and sometimes just “hold” my hand.
Now, after saying this, I also found that spending TOO much time in the forums takes away from my “me” time that is better spent in prayer or reading an inspirational book. Partake of the fellowship and support here, and take time for yourself. Try to find a good balance.

My dear St. M. Friends,

Last night I caught up with an old chat room friend that I met on another Catholic site. We have maintained our friendship over the years and she is one of my dearest friends I have never met.

She too is dealing with extraordinary difficulties in her life in that her adult daughter is a raging alcoholic. She pointed me to a website and today I sat down and took a really close look at it. I found a wonderful site with an abundance of material. As I was perusing the site, I thought of all of you on this thread who are struggling and looking for some peace and answers (myself included).

HERE is the link to the website. The home page has much to read, and the newsletter is a refreshing new look at the 1st step in the 12 step program of being powerless (surrendering), but the real gold mine is the books and tapes tab. My friend strongly recommended the CD set by Fr. Emerich Vogt called **Detaching with Love: Principles of the Spiritual Life. **She said she has listened to and relistened to the CD’s’ and has gained so much insight and peace. She ordered me to get them and listen to them!..LOL!!

If you have the resources, I would look over the offerings and order at least this CD series. I am going to get it ordered for myself because I value my friends opinion and know she is dealing with the same depth of pain I am dealing with. There are many books there as well that are extraordinarily appealing. A few examples I found (but haven’t read) are:
  • **Arise from Darkness **by Fr. Benedict Groshel
  • **Finding God’s Will For You **by St. Francis DeSalle (have but haven’t read yet)
  • **Getting Free: How to Overcome Persistent Personal Problems **by Bert Ghezzi
  • **I Can See Tomorrow **by Patricia Owen, PH.D
  • **Secret Diary of Elisabeth Leseur **(sound familiar??;))
  • I Believe In Love byFr. Jean C. J. d’Elbée (about teachings of St. Therese’…also have but haven’t read)
    And so many others!!!
Take some time and check out this website. It is, as I said, a wealth of material and reading.

My Dear Mom4Truth,
I am so sorry to hear your sorrow is wearing you down. I prayed for you and all here yesterday, although bedridden with flu, I did not see your post until this morning.
In my reading yesterday of Mother Teresa’s biography, I came across the following, from Isaih, and thought of us all here, who sometimes feel so hopeless.
See! I will not forget you … I have carved you on the palm of My hand … I have called you by your name … You are mine … You are precious to Me … I love you.
Isaiah
I pray today you awaken to a beautiful sunrise Mom, as it pierces the darkened sky and unfolds it’s light upon the world, this Lord’s day, may God’s love unfold it’s light upon you and your family, casting a soft warm light over your sorrows, making all seem brighter, and so much more beautiful. You are precious to Him, and He loves you. May God grant you strength to endure each trial he lays upon you, and the serenity and patience to do so with grace and humility. In His grace, may he grant you also the wisdom to accept each trial, not struggle against it; for He grants us only that which is for our greater good. Like our young children, who often do not understand our teaching and protection of them here on earth, and rebel against us, we are often heard saying “One day she’ll thank me for this”. Look to him, when you have not the strength to pray, and know that “One day you’ll thank Him for this.” A virtue gained, a lesson learned, an intimate bond with Him strengthened… how are we, such children, to know? Only trust in Him, and his undying love for you, Mom, His precious child who he yearns to rear up to be all that she can possibly be!

Thank you Lamb, for this wealth of information! My book list is growing, and I can’t wait to get my hands on some of these titles! 👍
I pray for your friend and her daughter. How much pain, worry, and sorrow that brings to a parent. May God watch over them both.
:gopray:

Diana, I’m so sorry you have the flu! Praying for your quick recovery; ladies: I thank each and everyone of you for your Scripture passages to reflect on and other much appreciated advice. It’s difficult to strike a balance as I am in bed much of the time due to chronic pain from various illnesses. My laptop keeps me in touch with the world - even though the pain can be almost unbearable. I thank you all for praying for me. Please pray that a lump I found will not be anything serious, too. I am not worried. I have had so many things happen to my body (physical surgeries, etc.) that one more thing really doesn’t seem to matter. Keeping all of you in prayer, ALWAYS! Many thanks to you all! You are loved by me.
