There’s surely Christian messages within the Studio Ghibli films, I mean similar to Disney there’s a lot of stories about finding oneself and strength to conquer obstacles. There’s always a sense of ‘good’ and morality, that children need when growing up, and adults alike need to refresh their faith.
I dunno about Disney. The priest I talked to said that Disney used to be all about family and that he was roman catholic. However, the priest told me that today’s disney enterprise exploits children and that sometimes Disney has gay march parades and even tried to de-christianize the Chronicles of Narnia. And yes, this was a priest who was telling me this. The discussion began after I had a confession with him and I asked what he thought about American Life League boycotting disney. And yes ALL does boycott Disney.

Do you guys know of Wolf’s Rain??
There is a Christlike figure called Kiba in it.

.
I own it. Kiba is a very good character although I don’t consider him to be Christ-like. He kills without hesatation Tsume’s two men in the very first episode but his thoughts on killing later change. Kiba just doesn’t strike me as a messianic character.

I am not a Catholic yet, and well in the past pornographic anime collecting, was a real hobby of mine. I am trying to but them days behind me and stick to more meaningful anime.

Yes, get rid of that things and forget about hentai altogether.

Blessings !!!

🙂

Disney is just the same now as it ever was. Boycotting it sounds silly. There are some bad things, and some good things about Disney. It’s a company like any other company.
Some good things come out of it, and some bad.

I myself certainly love the Disney Renaissance, a lot more than I do the Golden Age of Disney.
(Note: Golden Age = All the classics, Snow White, Bambi, Fantasia, etc. Renaissance = 1989 - 1999, ie, Little Mermaid, Lion King, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mulan… Yes, I just prefer those movies.)

Well why is American Life League boycotting it? I mean, the priest I talk to agree with the idea of boycotting Disney. Disney even produced a movie (I forgot the name) but it was about priests having homosexual encounters with one another.

Obviously you never watched Bleach.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Um, yeah… “obviously”. Apparently having watched the whole series up to this point and still keeping up with the new episodes as they’re being released means I “never watched Bleach”.

Compare 300+ episodes with oh how many did you watch, like two?

I’m careful with anime. I alot of it is REALLY inappropriate. However, I’ve watched almost all the Miyazaki (studio Ghibli) movies. I love them! My favorite is Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds. 😛

You do have a point. However I must disagree with your generalisations too. While many animes have elements which are magical, kabalistic, even pornographic, many if not most have many redeeming features and contain very little to none of the negative things you mentioned.

Sex in anime. I would say that this does not occur in 90% of anime. Anime characters virtually never have sex. There may be innuendo but always at the last moment someone gets cold feet or some event happens which prevents anyone taking it further. In a way I think this is a good thing, it shows youngesters that they can have fun, without sexual stuff. That they get embarrassed, girl slaps the guy for mistakenly walking in on her while she emerges from the shower or she accusses him of being a pervert further reinforces this. Usually the characters become drawn to each other for physical reasons but ultimately they discover a non-sexual approach to each other - the girl is hot tempered or she has a weird interest in this or that and this becomes admired by the guy. Sex is always made a big deal in anime shows. Many characters want to save themselves for marriage or at least someone they really love. By contrast most western shows and films depict it as a matter of fact, an inevitibility that friends and unmarried couples will do it sooner or later.

There is much virtue in many animes. The themes of redemption, forgiveness, self sacrifice (even giving your life for your friends), friendship, perseverence, unrequited love, loyalty, comraderie, etc.

Should all programming contain overtly religious themes? I don’t think so. I for one wouldn’t want to think of religious themes when unblocking my toilet. Programming should contain moral themes and themes positive or at least neutral to Christ when they appear but I don’t think Christ should be mentioned explicitly always. Negative reception to the show may turn to negative feelings towards the religious message. I think this would cheapen the message of Christ if we associated it with big explosions and goofy humour.

Occultism does occur in some anime and magic is many - magic being another form of advanced technology. However it is usually a device. The girl magician may cast a spell but she does not worship the devil and she is usually motivated by Christian like ideas and sinful ordinary human nature (like ours). Often allusions are made to God too, however because many Japanese are spiritual in a vague sense, their conceptions of God may not be the same as ours. We should take note of that and be prepared to correct errors when discussing this with others especially friends from Japan.

Now sometimes anime shows do abuse Christian symbols and that I think is unwatchable. But this is a small minority. I have complained to one publisher via way of a Japanese friend who is sympathetic to Catholicism. I think we could all write emails to Japanese producers who abuse Christian symbols and God.

Very few animes have disobedience to parents. Usually characters have no parents or their parents are absent. I’ve seen disobedience to parents on a very rare occasion.
I’ve seen disobedience to figures of authority who issue immoral commands however. On many occasions a character is told to kill another but at the last moment he or she refuses to do it. This ties in with themes of redemption and forgiveness in anime which are often subtle but nethertheless present in many shows.

Watching a show about believers in Gaia is not the same as believing in Gaia or even having sympathies for it. Most people watch anime for comedy, drama (usually cheesy soap opera sentimentality), action and the exoticism that Japanese producers bring in. Hopefully very few anime fans derrive their ideology or philosophy from anime. I will agree with you that it is however possible and that some weakly minded persons could become influenced by some themes but usually these themes are used as mere plot devices and contain very little detail. I think the greatest issue is with pornographic elements or elements which contain outright blasphemy. The former is more common and the latter is very rare. Hence write to complain. I think the commit the latter out of ignorance usually.

I think modern Western TV/film are far worse than anime shows. Lessons from anime hyperrealism and exoticism are assimilated less than contemporary, non-exotic, subtle TV/film. After all who would use a deformed ancient Samurai character as a role model over Brad Pitt or Matt Damon?
Interesting views. Nice little mini-essay; but I would also point out that anime is simply a medium.

You’re describing shounen or shoujo adventures, many of which I like.

There’s also horrifically violent and dirty anime. Or historical anime. There’s an entire range, most of which never makes it to the USA, even with YouTube.

That said, I’m a big fan of a number of series, and one of the ‘sleepers’ which has great and long-lasting appeal for me is Hikaru no Go—which I see as a tale of character development, and ultimately, redemption.

Does anyone here watch Japanese animation, aka anime? My favorite titles include: .hack//sign, any Miyazaki movie, Inuyasha, Trigun, and too many others.
Not i. Those cartoons are the most idiotic, hack drawn pieces ever. Thankfully, they are losing popularity amongst the youth here. And is basically becoming the official art form of depressed emos.

I rented Fallout New Vegas yesterday. What would you guys say about this?
fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Dog_and_God
It is a excellent game. Very very long. So i don’t know how long you rented it for. But i can bet it isn’t long enough. Each choice can lead you on a completely different path in the game. So be prepared to save a few files. So you can go back and take another path, in case the one you originally chose is not the path for you. That does make the game more interesting, so be careful and think about what path you want to choose. Because once you pick there is no going back. So for instance . You can’t kill mr house then change your mind later… So like i said, Save often.Make a different account or what ever. Before making a big decision. So you can go back n choose a different path for you.The most annoying thing is the loading. You go through a simple door form room to another and it has to load. Which can be very annoying. But apart form that . It is a good game that definitely gives you your moneys worth.

Oops, I forgot I’m the only one here that watches Bleach! :doh2:😛
bleach.wikia.com/wiki/Shinji_Hirako

BTW Sailor Kenshin, don’t let people like that get to you. There are always going to be those who saw one or two animes and thought the dozens of other ones must be the exact same thing, the people who think there’s just this one show on TV that’s titled “Anime”, and let’s not leave out the “all anime is porn” alliance, etc…

Actually I’ve watched and just stopped around the Arrancar arc cuz things got too busy. I was actually so thunderstruck by your pic, I was at a temporary loss for words. XD

Then again, I’m of the belief that Lady Gaga rip-offs a lot so it doesn’t surprise me anymore.😛

I decided not to play the game anymore so I deleted the data from my xbox. Everytime I visit new vegas city I saw those prostitutes and deep down I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was exposing myself to extremely bad content.

I actually found out that Dog and God come from downloadable content. However it’s disturbing that they make “God” (Dog’s alter-ego) look like a control freak and not only that he wants Father Elijah dead. It’s just like when that movie Legion came out they used the Bible and totally twisted it around.

I did however get to meet Mr. House. Met Benny, was ambushed by his four guys (Boone helped me), talked to “Yes Man”, reported what happened to a very displeased Mr. House, Accepted Caeser’s invite to his fortress, met with Caeser who gave me the Platinum Chip and talked to Benny who suprisingly told me how to gain rule of Vegas despite the fact that I could have him executed. Decieded to be merciful to him despite the face that he tried to kill me twice and gave him a Bobby Pin and a stealth Boy but Caeser men didn’t like that so they killed me. So I reload the game, try that again many times and decide it’s best to wait til later to rescue Benny.

I not gonna play the game anymore, but since you brought it back up long after I stopped playing, if I successfully rescue Benny after all he did what happen’s to him?
