If I ever get an unsolicited request for money from the Norbertines I will break my habit of tearing up and throwing away such stuff. šŸ™‚ Sounds like they should be rewarded for attempting to defend the Faith. If the school had attempted to deny admission to those poor kids,as some have suggested, the same people causing poor Father grief would have been questioning Fatherā€™s decision on that Iā€™ll bet. We are discussing this incident hypothetically, since we donā€™t know for sure the intentions of those involved. HOWEVER,hypothetically speaking, if the 2 guys are in fact trying to rub peopleā€™s noses in their sin, and trying to desensitize lil ones(probably not radiating evil like that murderer parent mentioned in another post), they are the baddies here. Yes, the church is indeed for sinners - repentant, struggling humans. Poorly taught Catholics can be excused for their ignorance, but only if they are willing to accept enlightenment from legitimate authority (NOT Sr.V.). Well, thatā€™s my take on it -me, claiming no authority at all! šŸ˜›

Ptero9,

Yes, we gave away the culture, yet it must be taken back, for the sake of all souls.
Interestingly enough, in the battle to ā€˜take it backā€™ I believe we have harmed our country more than healed it, and I worry about the damage done.

However, it is my firm belief that through our prayers and this movement JPII started to awaken us Catholics so that we take active roles in living the life of Christ we will take back the culture - but itā€™s not going to be by reversing laws or stacking the Supreme Court, or by legalizing our theological beliefsā€¦itā€™s going to be through our children. For one thing, weā€™re having themā€¦the other side is not - or theyā€™re having very few - so in time the number of active Catholics will reshape the culture. Also, by training them to respect Rome and trust in the Lord they will choose, of their own free will, to disregard the laws of the land which say itā€™s ok to do things that really arenā€™t okā€¦and in time, they will become our lawyers, judges and politicians. Itā€™s a long process but the youth responded so well to JPII that I truly believe that is how this bad phase of our history will be repaired.

Can you imagine the teacher, or Father, being allowed to use the situation as a teaching moment? As in, ā€œLetā€™s see what the bible has to say about Johnnyā€™s 2 dadsā€. Not gonna happen - but it should - if the guys truly want their kids to be brought up Catholic. Of course, they probably donā€™t, and the people who donā€™t want children desensitized to certain sin are too kind and caring to put poor Johnny on the spot, so itā€™s a win-win situation for evil so far.

Yin - a goodly proportion of the people in power in this country today (Iā€™m in the USA) were brought up Catholic, at a time when Catholicism was truly taught in Catholic schools. I donā€™t know what happened, but most seem to have turned on the hand that fed them the Truth. I am hoping, as you are, that things will be different this time around. Maybe having the Truth come more from the parents than from the school is key? I have great hopes (and many fears) for my grandchildren.

One of the central issues here is that homosexuals should never be allowed to adopted children. All the terrible issues being discussed here would be avoided if our culture of death did not so readily embrace this new ideology of evil that embraces homosexual acts as good and homosexual adoption as reasonable.

How much farther can we fall as a culture?
First, change the laws so that they canā€™t adopt and then have them all sterilized. Problem solved.

Well, itā€™s true! Wouldnā€™t you say that your spiritual life is better because of CA?

Most definitelyā€¦

First because of Relevant Radioā€¦it is there I learned about this board.

Second, because of the caliber of members on this boardā€¦many really ā€œknow their stuffā€ and better yet - know how to share that stuff in an unoffending manner.

Third, because the Vatican has a website which makes it possible for any of us to access information from the source - THIS is invaluable!!

But above all, because of the grace of God, on me, a poor sinner.

I think it **is **the key.
Information is power and this generation has an abundance of CATHOLIC information at their fingertips -

Because of JPII we have a catechism available in any bookstore - not just specialty stores.

Because of JPII the Vatican has a website.

Because of JPII we have Relevant Radio.

Because of JPII we have CA.

I know my generation and my parentsā€™ generation did not have that. They had what the priests and nuns told them, thatā€™s all. They didnā€™t question the Church for fear of being viewed as disrespectful.

Our generation not only gets to ask questions, the Church welcomes the opportunity to ANSWER them!!

And now, as parents WE have the CORRECT answers to give to our children and we can show them how to search for answers themselves (from the correct sources).

JPII was a genius - a truly blessed man - who set the wheel in motion for the reclamation of Godā€™s people (and our society benefits from this).

Iā€™ll second thatā€¦I am much like St. Paulā€¦he called himself the Chief among sinners, and I would say the same of myself. That I am here is truly a testamony to not only Godā€™s grace, but his infinite mercy.

Yin,

I agree that the young will play a vital role in taking back the culture, but they will have to do it by stacking the supreme corut and changing lawsā€¦the only other alternative is civil war and that is not an option.

Is our Church a museum for saints or a hospital for sinners?
Both. However, the sinners are told to go and sin no more, not keep doing what youā€™re doing.

Why is that so difficult to understand?

YinYangMom:
The one area I would agree with Penny on this approach, however, is that once this step was taken with this family, the playing field was opened and all other known non-conforming Catholic parents should have the same restrictions placed on themā€¦Particularly those parents who are using contraception (and trust me, people know who they are in a setting like that), those who have remarried without having the previous marriage annulled, etc. Embracing and accepting them into the classrroom is equally as confusing - specifically for their own children.
We all agree. The one point I would make is that contraceptionists do not usually flaunt it. If they did that would be different.

As I asked before is it such a burden to request that parents who want to enroll their kids abstain from scandalous relationships? There is a growing trend among homosexuals to adopt or use a surrogate to have children. This issue is going to be more common very soon.

I have to know. How is sterilizing men who only have sex with other men going to solveā€¦well, solve whatever it is youā€™re trying to solve?

I donā€™t think youā€™ve thought this one through.

Orange County Parents force Catholic School Policy Barring Gay ā€œCouplesā€ From School Events

Very interestingā€¦

That the diocese has declined in the past to become involved with the controversy between parents and the school is not surprising to long-term observers.

The diocese of Orangeā€™s record upholding Church teaching on homosexuality has been spotty. In 2000, while Californians debated a ballot proposition that affirmed the meaning of marriage as being between one man and one woman, the Bishop of Orange, Tod Brown, sent priests of the diocese a confusing article by a Fr. Gerald D. Coleman of the Archdiocese of San Francisco as expressing his own (the Bishopsā€™s) views.

Fr. Coleman, a prolific author and frequent contributor to the liberal Jesuit magazine, America, wrote, ā€œSome homosexual persons have shown that it is possible to enter into long-term, committed and loving relationshipsā€¦I see no moral reason why civil law could not in some fashion recognize these faithful and loving unions with clear and specified benefits. These unions would then be recognized by society as sustaining an important status deserving our respect and protection. I believe that this possibility could be pursued without equating such unions with marriage, and without in any way demeaning our needed respect and protection for the institution of marriage.ā€

Credible allegations have been made that the bishop of Orange as well as three of his predecessors have turned a blind eye to at least one priest living in a notorious and open homosexual relationship.

I agree.

Fellow posters: letā€™s keep this discussion (and all ā€œhotā€ debates) on an even keel. Being rude to each other doesnā€™t help the debate but it **does **make the evil one happy.
