Continue from last post.
If you think we are on the wrong path, which from reading many posts, most of you do, why dont you come out of your house and use your time to go door to door to save us and whoever else.
Mathew 25:31-46 tell us we are to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick etc. Scripture also say by our fruit people will know if we are Christian or not. When was the last time you clothe the naked. I can tell you it was last month, when I went through all my clothing and gave my older stuff that did not fit me or that I no longer wear to the homeless shelter and to the second hand shop.

When was the last time you feed the hungry? I can tell you it was last week when I took food to my church to be given to the homeless shelter. Actually, every time I go to church I feed the hungry, because I put money in the offertory and 4% of all the money collected goes to the local food pantry, to feed the hungry.

When was the last time you visit the sick or those in prison? I can tell you that I did that 2 weeks ago, when I took my kids to the local nursing home and we visit with our “adopted” grandma. Our “adopted” grandma is an elderly lady that has no family. So we visit with her, so she has someone to talk to, she is not related to us. We found out about her because I went to the nursing home and asked who doesn’t have regular visitors. The list of people that don’t have visitors is enough to make me cry. Most everyone in a nursing home has no visitors. We can’t visit with them all, but we pick 2-3 of them to visit with.

I see someone stuck on the side of the road so I stop and see if they need help. I offer to make phone calls for them. I have driven down the gas station and back so they can get gas in the car. We even had a man knock on our door looking for some gas because he ran out. We didn’t have any gas but my hubby took the man with our gas can and drove down to the gas station to get gas. We paid for the gas put the gas in the man’s car and told him to have a nice day. When was the last time you help someone stuck on the side of the road, when was the last time you paid for their gas because they ran out.

I’ve seen men and women with signs saying need money for food. I won’t give them money, however I have driven down to the nearest fast food joint to buy a hamburger and fries and driven back to the man and women and give them the food I just bought. The sign said they needed food, so I got them food. When was the last time you done something like that?

I’ve gone to the store with $10 in my pocket looking to buy something. Not really something I need, but something I want. I’ve shown up at the store and there would be someone standing there and collecting money for some worthy charity or cause. I’ve put my $10 in and turn around and walk back to my car and gone home, never buying what I came to buy because the $10 is all that I had. When was the last time you have done something like that?

If you were to come to my home today, you will see electric cords and a water hose, going to my neighbor’s home. This is because his electric and water has been shut off. It will be turned back on some time tomorrow, however in the mean time he needs heat, lights, and water. So we are running lines to his house. He has offered to pay us, and we have told him NO, we do not want his money. Clearly he is struggling right now to make ends meat. When was the last time you have done something like that???

I don’t need to go to door to door to preach the Word of God to people. I do it with my every day actions with everyone I meet. I do my best to give what I have to give and do what I can do. I take time to visit those in the nursing homes, I take time to go through my closest to see what I can give to the poor, I have given money to those that need it, sometimes it’s all the money I have. I do things for my neighbors that need help, just because it’s the right thing to do.

Sometimes, people will ask why did you stop? Why don’t you want my money to pay for this gas? I just look at them and say “It’s because this is what Christ wants me to do!”.

My hubby and I get told sometimes we are “Angels”. We are just look at them and say, “No, we are just doing what is “right” what Christ wants from us, just pass it on, just do something nice for someone else.”

There are so many people in this world. Going door-to-door is one way to reach them. However there are so many other ways. There are people in stores, laundry mats, street corners, restaurants, homeless shelters, nursing homes, hospitals, prisons etc. Who reaches out these people?? I can’t reach out to all of them. However I try to reach out to everyone I see and meet, not just to those doors I knock on!

I would just like to first say hi, and second, I am a JW. I just wanted to post briefly. I have read most of these sites, and I too just googled the name of the tract to read feedback. This site is interesting, rather the feedback is.

I am not here to debate your beliefs. I just want to ask one thing.

It seems most of you know that door to door is what JW’s do. This campaign is special in that it is being done everywhere at the same time for a limited time. Many of you have stated that you offer your literature when a JW comes. If you think we are on the wrong path, which from reading many posts, most of you do, why dont you come out of your house and use your time to go door to door to save us and whoever else. Why do we have to come to you to find out we are headed the wrong way. If I come to a door and they dont wont the literature, that’s fine. When someone offers my literature, i tell them I will consider it and discuss it with them when they come to my house and try to help me. Not vice versa–I am not sure where this post will come up–I am not replying to anyone in particular, just to all! Thanks for your time!

If you show up, unannounced and uninvited at my front door to preach at me, sell me stuff, campaign or for whatever reason, and I open my door to you, you will darn well hear what I have to say.
AND, if I take the time to talk to you, which I do, DO NOT give me lip about “coming to your house and trying to help you”.
You are on my property.

After posting my other posting today, I started to wonder: How do JW help the homeless?
So I went to watchtower.org to find out. It just so happened to be one of their main points of interest on their main page today, so I didn’t have to do much searching.

According to watchtower.org:
Jehovah’s Witnesses are striving to provide people with the spiritual help they need right now. Jehovah’s Witnesses strive to show empathy to all their neighbors, including the homeless. They are anxious to share Bible truths regarding a better future—truths that even now can transform lives.—John 8:32. Source: click here
It’s great to be there to offer spiritual support and share the Bible truths and give them hope for a better future. However, how does this relate to scripture???
James 2:14-16:
What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?
How can JW just share the Word of God with these people and do nothing about their physical needs??

I’ve looked through the web-site and have read the articles regarding the homeless. watchtower.org mentions that OTHER groups are providing the physical needs. * (So those needs are being met, but not by the JW themselves)*

There is no mention of JW actually helping to feed these people.

There is no mention of JW actually helping to give these people shelter.

There is no mention of JW actually helping to cloth these people.

Watchtower.org said that JW are striving to provide these people with spiritual help and are anxious to share the Bible truth with them.

My question is: If someone said to a homeless person: "God loves you, and I’m here to share the Bible with you, but personally does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?”’

There is a psycologist named Maslow that discusses this very thing

If the basic ‘animal’ needs arent met (like food, shelter, clothing) everything else takes a back seat…

example…

When are in a meeting… and nature is REALLY REALLY calling… ever notice how little of the meeting you pay attention to?

Same thing here… great… your giving me a bible… IM HUNGRY…

In Christ

As a Witness, I remember hearing most other JW people say not to bother with charities and the like, because Armageddon is coming so very soon that all we would be doing would be bailing water out of a sinking ship.

Hi shushawnna Welcome to the forum. I have had some involvement with the Witnesses, and that’s all I’ll say for now. I am very happy to see Witnesses posting on this forum, and I hope to see more.

This is going to be a development of some of the points Jaypeeto made, in response to your question; why dont you come out of your house and use your time to go door to door to save us and whoever else.

I would sincerely like to raise the question of whether the form of door-to-door work that the Witnesses engage in is Scriptural. Consider all of the examples in the book of Acts where Christians preached - in the Synagogues, in the Temple, on top of the Aeropogus, in public places of prayer, in market places, even before rioting crowds. It seems as if Luke was really reporting all of the different kind of places where Christians preached. Is there one, clear, unambiguous text that shows that Christians called uninvited on the homes of unbelievers? I submit to you that there is not. What does the absence of such a text indicate?

Secondly, I would like to ask you if all Christians are even supposed to engage in a formal preaching work. Note:

**Ephesians 4:11 ** And his gifts were that some should be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, (Notice that it says that only “some” are evangelilsts and teachers)

James 3:1 Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, for you know that we who teach shall be judged with greater strictness.(similar thought)

1 Corinthians 9:14 In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel. (This suggests that it is right for those who preach to earn their living from their preaching. How could that be if all members of the congregation were expected to be preachers?)

These are some of the questions that came to me in my own Bible reading. My search eventually led me to look into the Catholic Church. God bless you and I hope to see more of you around on these forums. AHF

Wonderful !

That means no more heresies from the Watchtower 🙂 ##

Hi, and welcome to the forum. I have to agree with other posts. JW’s do not set up missions in other countries to provide health care, food and education. Individual witnesses may give money to these causes but as an organiztion, they send out missionaries to go ‘door to door’ but they do not feed the hungry, do not provide health care or education and you need to read to be able to study the Bible or Bible based literature. Why do Catholics not go door to door? In my opinion:
  1. It’s counterproductive. In this age we have all sorts of things coming through our letter box and people on the phone and it causes resentment no matter how worthy the cause. People also need to see Christianity lived and not just talked about, IE feeding the hungry, health care etc.
  2. We live in a Christian country, so called or otherwise. People have heard the gospel, they have heard Christ has risen, Christianity is taught in schools, the law hinges around the 10 commandments and in my part of the world it’s hard to go around the corner without meeting someone giving out tracts or encountering a Church building. With all these messages going out, the responsiblilty is on the hearer of the gospel to respond. It’s not that they have not heard.
  3. Being very cynical, the Catholic Church does not need converts. That does not mean they are not delighted when someone desires to learn about the Catholic faith, but some faiths are very centered on making new disciples because they need them more.

I was feeling left out and neglected but my friendly neighborhood JWs must have stopped by today because my copy of False Religions is at the front door, now I too can see the error of my ways. I see the production values of their throw-aways has not improved since the last time I got one of their flyers.

If I had been given a leaflet called ‘The End of False Religion is Near’ I would have given the JW callers the address of the nearest Catholic Church and told them that since their religion was about to be extinct, they’d do well to enroll in RCIA classes.

Who exactly are the JW’s anyway?

I may have seen a couple of them a long time ago in my child hood, I thought they were always just some weird form of Christianity like the Mormons.

How can we know they are incorrect anyway?

By the way I think Catholics need to get out there, they should be focusing a lot of effort into showing the Protestants the truth.

Protestants are so misinformed about the Catholic Church it makes me sad, there needs to be a lot more information out there regarding it.

Hi,
I live in NJ They must be on a National convert hunt.😃 I got one for ya. A friend of mine just told me today that when the JW come to the door, they ask" Dont you guys believe that only 144,000 people go to heaven?" the JW replies,“yes.” The friend said,“Then why would you want me to take your place?” They have no idea how to respond to that.👍
Yes I would have thought they would have met their quota of this 144,000 years ago with all the door knockin’😃

I was given this newletter this morning by JW’s. After I closed the door I quickle glanced at the newsletter. The Church in Politics, Priest sex scandal, False Doctrines, the future end of a false religion.

After I closed the door, it once again fell on me on how much people dislike the Church because they misunderstand it; or just dislike it! If the Church is His body, then I was again reminded how much people misunderstood and hated Jesus.

What does the Church do in these instances. Well, it just turns the other Cheek because I never seen Catholics go door to door giving bash-pamplets of anykind to anyone or specific religion. Why is that?

In Christ!
since there is a no solicitation policy in my apartment complex, they are mailing them. I received it in the mail the other day. Went unto file 13.

Sorry guys, once again, I am responding to all. I dont know how to reply to certain ones.

Okay, let me remind some that I am not going to debate doctrine. I simply asked a “opinion” type question.

I will say to those who stated that the scrips dont support door to door that Jesus gave detailed instructions on how to go about doing this. Remember when he sent out the 70 in 2’s? He told them where to go, and what to preach. The command is also given at Matt. 28:19,20 to go and make disciples. This is to be a worldwide work as stated at matt 24:14.

As far as charity work, there isnt enough time and space to say what we do. It doesnt get publicized, and doesnt have to be recognized as the whole organization doing it. We as individuals do it daily. Since you mentioned the website, did you notice the awards for the public service announcements? does that count? Go to Louisiana and asked non JW’s who rebuilt some of their homes for free. Go to Florida, ask the same thing. See, these things dont have to be bragged about. If it is done out of love, you dont need recognition. Jesus didnt do what he did for recognition. The best charity Jesus did was to preach God’s kingdom as the only government to solve man’s problems. That was his main focus. The healing, and feeding and other things he did were important but not his main focus. So, we today follow his lead. Teaching ones bible principles help ones to learn to feed and clothe themselves and their families, and to be law abiding citizens. yes, people today need immediate help in many situations. That is not to be disputed, but after that what? Give them a hope and show them how to attain it.

yes, Jesus went to the market place, synagouges, store fronts. We do too. That’s the point, we go to people. Jesus wasnt sitting in his own store, synagouge, market, or street corner, He went to where the people were. We do too. Door to door still continues to be the main way we do it. and acutally it is not counter productive. Remeber, Noah only saved himself and his family. Does that mean he wasnt successful. No, he warned all like he was supposed to. So, if noone responds to the tract, which it has already been shown that many have, we still did what we are supposed to do. Warn! People are making up their minds where they stand. That’s fine. We all have that right. No one will be able to say they didnt know. and while we want all to come out of false religion, and gain life, we know many wont, Just as in Noah’s day. We still have the obligation to our neighbors to warn just as we would if your house was on fire. It’s done out of love!
Forgive me if I dont respond. I too and out doing the campaign work until we are done. so I will reply sooner or later. Thanks

Who is “we” Fill the void?

You have made some posts on other threads that leads one to wonder what you are promoting.

Your profile is mysterious about your religious affliliation and that is fine with me, but after your last post on another thread regarding sola scriptura you seemed to indicate that you have a decided opinion on matters of faith you came to realize recently.

I am a bit confused as to your postings but do appreciate your views, and thank you for your imput on my thread and all the others I have seen.

Godspeed brother.

The answer to your question of how can we be sure is complex.

Do you accept the Trinity?

Have you read all the posts on this thread?

There are some things that one can not compromise and try to claim they are “christians”.
That is the name it claim it game.

Noah my dear, saved nothing. God saved Noah. This is elementary yet you dont see that do you? Noah was obedient. Therefore Noah found God’s favor.

Thank you for your very humble attempts to show us false worshippers the truth according to the WBTS.

Until you can establish they are Gods organization, I suggest you spare yourself and the WBTS the continuing humilliation in exposing your non-supportable beliefs.

If you have time click my signature line to find out how you got your edited version of the Bible prior to your WBTS chopping it up further.

did you notice the awards for the public service announcements? does that count?
NO I didn’t see them. I even went back to watchtower.org and can’t find them.

I did a word search for “public service announcements” and got told “Search Results Error Our system was unable to find matching.”

So I did a word search for “awards” and got directed to a Child Custody–Religion and the Law - Jehovah’s Witnesses Official Web Site OR Sexual Harassment–A Global Problem - Jehovah’s Witnesses Official Web Site Clearly not what I was looking for.

So please give a direct link to what you are talking about, seeing I can’t find it. Thanks!
