I agree with mommy of 2 green.

Citations please. We can provide citations on charity. You must do the same.

Dont just name it to claim it. Prove it. And from the START of your orginazation to today in an unbroken line.

Not a new flip flop to snare people into your trap.

. As far as charity work, there isnt enough time and space to say what we do.
There must not be enough time and space on watchtower.org to say what the members of your faith do. The only thing that I can find on watchtower.org is how JW read and share the Word with God with people. No mention of feeding people. No mention of clothing people. No mention of giving people shelter. I really do hope that you will come back here to CAF and post direct links to watchtowr.org that show where JW do theses things. Especially, a direct link to those “awards for public service announcements”. Seeing I was unable to find them!!
. It doesnt get publicized, and doesnt have to be recognized as the whole organization doing it.
You don’t have to brag about it. However, why hide the fact that you are feed the hungry, or clothing the naked? The quotes I gave earlier came straight from watchtower.org. All it said is that JW strive to share the Bible truth with those that are homeless. It DID NOT say JW strive to feed, cloth, give shelter to the homeless AND share the Bible truth with them.

I mention many of the things that I have done lately. Just to help prove a point. However, I will tell you that it is not my nature to boost about what I do or fail to do. I do many of those things and never say anything to anyone other then my hubby. That’s because he needs to know why I went to the store and came back with nothing. My hubby needs to know where this money went or that money went. Hubby is NORMALLY the only one I share with. Of course, I’ve had friends that have come by this week and have seen the electric cords and water hose running to the neighbor’s house. I told them what was going on, cause they asked.
We as individuals do Go to Louisiana and asked non JW’s who rebuilt some of their homes for free. Go to Florida, ask the same thing. See, these things dont have to be bragged about. If it is done out of love, you dont need recognition.
According to you, JW where there to help rebuild homes that were destroyed by hurricanes and floods.(I would like to see other sources that show this) It’s great that happened. However, what about the homeless people in non-hurricane areas, like New York, Chicago, Seattle; How will they stay warm this winter?? The temp tonight in these areas will be in the 30’s. How are they staying warm?? Who gave them their blankets? Who gave the shelter money to pay for the heat and food? Who gave their time and volunteer at these shelters to make sure that these people got something to eat tonight?

Jesus didnt do what he did for recognition. The best charity Jesus did was to preach God’s kingdom as the only government to solve man’s problems. That was his main focus. The healing, and feeding and other things he did were important but not his main focus.
Wow! That’s not how I see it. The best charity Jesus did was dying, so that we could have everlasting life!! Christ death and resurrection means that you and I both have a chance at everlasting life with HIM! Praise God, for His mercy! Christ is my Lord and Savior, and because of HIS death and resurrection, I have a chance at everlasting life and so do you. That was the best charity that Christ did. He freely and willfully gave up His life for you and for me. That was the best charity that Christ did nothing else could compare.

Christ said the 2 great commandments were to Love the Lord your God with all your heart, body and soul. The second commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself. What does that mean to love your neighbor as yourself? Well to me that means if your neighbor is sick you help heal them. If your neighbor is lonely then you talk with them. If your neighbor is thirsty then you give them something to drink. If your neighbor needs help then you help them. This is because this is what I would want my neighbor to do for me.

Sharing the Word of God is great! I know it is! That’s why I’m on forums like this one talking with you!

However my question is: Why when it comes to judgment we are judge by the acts of charity we do not by weather we preached the Word of God? (see Mathew 25, Rom 2, Matthew 15 and 16, 1 Ptr 1, Rev 20 and 22, 2 Cor 5 for examples)
So, we today follow his lead. Teaching ones bible principles help ones to learn to feed and clothe themselves and their families, and to be law abiding citizens. yes, people today need immediate help in many situations. That is not to be disputed, but after that what? Give them a hope and show them how to attain it.
Please explain to me, how a homeless person knowing what John 3:16 said going to teach him how to find a job? Please explain to me how a homeless person knowing what Act 2:2 said going to give him the skills needed to keep a job? Please explain to me how a homeless person know what Psalms 23 saids going to give him a paycheck so he can buy food and clothing? I don’t understand how learning the bible is going to teach a homeless person to feed his family and give them clothing to wear.

I’m I saying that we should not teach the homeless the Bible? No of course not! However, they need what is really truly going to help them here and now and have that fixed before they start thinking about the future. They need their needs met and they need to know how to met those needs for themselves. Once those needs are met, then by all means teach them the bible and the Word of God.
yes, Jesus went to the market place, synagouges, store fronts. We do too. That’s the point, we go to people.
So do I. I go to the nursing homes and visit with the elderly. I go to the hospital and visit the sick. When I go to the laundry mat I’ll start talking to the other people there. I stop when I see someone stuck on the side of the road. I go to the homeless shelters and volunteer my time to help feed them. I go to the people too.

If I had been given a leaflet called ‘The End of False Religion is Near’ I would have given the JW callers the address of the nearest Catholic Church and told them that since their religion was about to be extinct, they’d do well to enroll in RCIA classes.
I reckon I should’ve kept my big mouth shut!

Just 5 minutes ago, I went to get the mail from our quarters. Guess what? A leaflet from our friendly local heretics - yes, the very same leaflet that you guys got, ‘The End is Near’ with it’s ‘Worldwide Message’ with a major heretical dig at the ‘harlot’, which upon further reading, is a swipe at Rome.

I’m saving this, for when I run out of toilet paper. The men in black never even stopped to knock on the door (quite possibly because it is the door to a pub, who knows?’

They dumped their junk mail through my letterbox and didn’t even give me a chance to invite them in for a beer!

Oh well, maybe next time!

Sorry guys, once again, I am responding to all. I dont know how to reply to certain ones.

Okay, let me remind some that I am not going to debate doctrine. I simply asked a “opinion” type question.

I will say to those who stated that the scrips dont support door to door that Jesus gave detailed instructions on how to go about doing this. Remember when he sent out the 70 in 2’s? He told them where to go, and what to preach. The command is also given at Matt. 28:19,20 to go and make disciples. This is to be a worldwide work as stated at matt 24:14.

As far as charity work, there isnt enough time and space to say what we do. It doesnt get publicized, and doesnt have to be recognized as the whole organization doing it. We as individuals do it daily. Since you mentioned the website, did you notice the awards for the public service announcements? does that count? Go to Louisiana and asked non JW’s who rebuilt some of their homes for free. Go to Florida, ask the same thing. See, these things dont have to be bragged about. Jesus wasnt sitting in his own store, synagouge, market, or street corner, He went to where the people were. We do too. No, he warned all like he was supposed to. So, if noone responds to the tract, which it has already been shown that many have, we still did what we are supposed to do. Warn! People are making up their minds where they stand. That’s fine. We all have that right. No one will be able to say they didnt know. and while we want all to come out of false religion, and gain life, we know many wont, Just as in Noah’s day. We still have the obligation to our neighbors to warn just as we would if your house was on fire. It’s done out of love!
Forgive me if I dont respond. I too and out doing the campaign work until we are done. so I will reply sooner or later. Thanks
have you seen silentlambs.org? i highly recommend you go there and look at the site. did you happen to check out all the links i provided for you? i doubt it. i know your responding generally to everyone, but it is a good idea for you to check out those links.

also did you see jeff’s tract the end of false prophecy is here! ? people that claim they speak for God and make false predictions do not speak for God. the WTB&TS does not speak for God.

want the REAL truth? we’ll be glad to help you find it. it is not at the Watchtower my friend. they do not speak the truth. they have flip flopped on several doctrines, and truth stands, and is real and does not change. the watchtower has changed and flip flopped on so many doctrines and predictions that how can one believe it to be the truth?

did you also check out the “Open letter”? I suggest you read that as well. did you check into the past of the watchtower organization? when you do your homework friend, you’ll find out how long they have been misleading the entire world, and lying
about the divinity of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Lying about the end of the world, lying about the blood issue, lying to their own members, not letting their members have independent thinking. and the list of errors and flip flops goes on and on and on.

want the truth? we’ll be happy to provide it to you.

I didn’t say that individual witnesses do nothing for charity. I know they do. They do not however, set up missions educating people, providing healthcare and practical support. Here in Ireland we have Trocaire. I give a monthly donation toTrocaire and all the work they do gets little publicity. Trocaire also supports people by buying farming equipment, seeds, fishing nets, midwife kits the list is endless and educate people to enable them to farm, be midwives and irrigate land with the donations they receive. As an organization, JW’s do not have such programmes. There is nothing essentially wrong with going from door to door but as I said, in my personal opinion, it’s counterproductive because in the majority of cases you end up just annoying people and I don’t think annoying people is the best way to draw them to Christ. People need to see Christianity lived. This draws them to Christ. We also have to ask are we drawing people to Christ, or drawing them to ourselves? If anyone wants to know anything in relation to Catholicism they only have to ask and there are many very accessible means and it is their responsiblilty to ask. Christ has been made present to them.

So you changed your name back, thats good news.
I didnt think it needed to be changed in the first place.

Exactly. That’s my point. Do you see anywhere where Jesus, or anyone else in the New Testament, either went door to door in a systematic way, like the Witnesses do, or instructed others to do so? Also, here are some of the instructions that Jesus gave, that you referred to:

**Luke 10: 5-7 ** Whatever house you enter, first say, `Peace be to this house!’ And if a son of peace is there, your peace shall rest upon him; but if not, it shall return to you. And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages; do not go from house to house.

Of all the methods of preaching reported on in the New Testament, and I mentioned some in my other post - why is a systematic calling, uninvited, on the homes of unbelievers so noticably absent? I have seen artist’s renderings in WT literature of early Christians going door to door - where is the scripture to support that? That’s the point I was trying to make.

But I want to say that I respect the tenacity and persistence of most individual, ordinary, Witnesses, and I always have. (Even though I may disagree with what their leadership tells them it is their religious obligation to do.) I also appreciate your presence here and your willingness and determination to discuss your faith. God bless you , and again, welcome here. :tiphat:

In response to sunny girls information. There are 7 000 000 JW’s worldwide. I’m currently studying sociology (among other things) for university. The JW’s said in the year 2000 there were 6 000 000 JW’s worldwide. My test book states there were 215 620. Why such a difference? The chapter incidently is disscussing the rise in membership of established sects. It states that there figure is an estimate because the size of their membership are not available. I wonder why?

This is an interesting point…I wonder how many JWs there really are in the world.
I believe the LDS are about 8-10 Million worldwide but that isnt hard to come up with that number, Id guess the SouthWest USA is about 3 million LDS whith another 1-2 spread over the rest of the states (the rest spread across the globe). They are known for large families which supports such numbers and they make their presense clear where they go as well indicating presence/interest in the area.
…however I dont see the same for the JWs, if the LDS are about 8-10 then how did the JWs get to be about 7M? The JWs I know dont have large families, there is no specfic JW territory in the USA, they dont have lds type temples around, etc.
I can only imagine maybe 4 million JWs worldwide.

I am not sure why the Jw’s are suddenly touting numbers (true or false)

Their old battle cry was that one of the “proofs” they are the truth is because they are smaller in number (than us I assume they meant) so I wonder if they changed their tune on that.

Maybe with Islam touting numbers, they feel that people wont take them seriously unless they claim large numbers.

They used to use the “gate is narrow” analogy for their smaller prescence years ago.

But, even if there are huge numbers of them, it lends no proof to the claim they make of having truth.

Arians could have used that argument.

And, for that matter the guy running a church out of his garage with 5 followers could use the “gate is narrow” approach too.

Numbers are not proof of anything in this case.

I want financial statements. Never heard of a witness (rank and file) having access to their “hall” financial records as we do. I hope they do now, but I highly doubt it.

What is all the secrecy about?

The end of False Religion is near?

For a period of 13 years, I had a friend who described herself as an “ex-Catholic Bible Christian.” We exchanged pen pal letters since we were both Star Trek fans, and then when her health got too bad for her to write, we spoke long distance by telephone instead. On the phone, she always insisted on reading Bible verses to me. I thought her strange Biblical interpretations and talk about a “paradise earth” were merely the products of the overactive imagination of an enthusiastic science fiction fan who was also dealing with the baggage of illness and being a fallen away Catholic. For my part, I told my friend upfront, openly and honestly, that I was a strong practicing Catholic … and I let her know the Catholic position on various subjects over the years.

Come to find out that this alleged “close friend” who called me “more than a friend, a family member and sister in Christ” … was actually being FALSE about her RELIGION.

After 13 years, it finally emerged that she was a Jehovah’s Witness who had been deceiving me by neglecting to tell me the truth about her identity when it came to her beliefs.

So when it comes to False Religion … I have 13 years experience with a Jehovah’s Witness who dealt with me falsely about her own religion during that entire time.

Funny thing. When the secret was at last revealed to me and I told her that I’d still be quite willing to be friends as long as each one of us respected the other’s religion … the JW dropped me. Suddenly, the whole “friend, family, sister in Christ” relationship which had allegedly been so meaningful to her for all those years just up and vanished.

Guess it was a False Friendship as well.

hey pheonix,

that’s too bad she played you. but on the other hand, maybe when she decided to tell you the truth about her beliefs, she just couldn’t deal with the truth. she should have told you up front that she was a witness. what i find really odd is that strong witnesses would be up front about their belief because they are quite proud of it. just wonder why it took her so long to tell you? hmm… oh well.

witnesses usually only “befriend” someone when they hope to get that person into their belief. if they see the potential recruit wont be swayed to their way of thinking, then they give up, and they do it quick. i’ll give you an example. one time, a witness girl who was newly married, came over to my house as we were almost the same age, she is a year older than i. she said she’d be glad to take me out for lunch, so, me being short on money, i agreed to it.

this was 1989. i was not a full witness at that time, and wouldn’t be for another 7 years. i was going to the odd meeting. well, anyways, she met me at the restaurant, and i ordered my lunch, and it was agreed that i wouldn’t have to pay for it. but i ended up paying for it myself ( my portion of it ) all she had wanted to do
was to offer me a Bible study, and when it was realized that that was not going to happen, she payed her portion of the lunch and politely said goodbye. so, she played me.

was i mad? no, but i was disappointed in her and we did not speak for a few years after that episode. i never did tell her why she disappointed me. that wasn’t the first time i was played either. but i wont get into that. Catholic’s don’t do things like that. Not to my knowledge and i’ve been home for a few years now in the Church and never ever came across people in our faith that played people to try to recruit them.

the witnesses are coming in here to this thread to see what the reaction is to their tract. they google it, and when they see it posted, they come in here to see what the reaction is:
shushawnna "I too just googled the name of the tract to read feedback" /QUOTE:
when you start to seriously question them about their beliefs and tell them about the TRUTH they up and run. did you notice that they have not checked out ANY of the links we provided for them?

well, don’t expect it because its “apostate literature” and they wont read it because it might make the falsetower look really bad and they might have their eyes opened and start to think independently, and they wouldn’t want that now would they?

Nooooooo…

oh, i thought i’d add an interesting point here. i printed out the tract, The End of False Prophecy is Here! and a few others from the web that are Catholic, and I put them in a nice little folder and taped it to my outside door, incase the witnesses come over when iam not home. I taped a note to the folder that says “free resources for jw’s” and so far not one bite, but you never know right? ( side note: the tract The End of False Prophecy is Here! sits in the front so as to attract their eye )

The End of False Religion is Near - or is it?
The JW definition of a false religion is, frankly, ANY religion outside of their own small group.

IS “false religion” really on it’s way out in the near future?
The pamphlet says it is, and VERY soon.
The pamphlet says all the governments of the world will turn upon false religion and utterly wipe it off the face of the Earth, and SOON. Further, the pamphlet quotes scripture to the effect that God will “put it into the heart” of all the world’s governments to do this very thing.

Now, let’s be calm and realistic here. Is there any evidence that all of the world’s leaders are about to turn against “false religion” in the near future and wipe it out? And COULD they do so by force, even if they wanted to?
The U.S. Military, arguably the best military in the world, cannot even control (let alone wipe out) the violent Islamic factions in Iraq, for crying out loud. How then could say, the United Nations, with a much smaller army than the U.S. Army, enforce a worldwide ban on all Religions? The United Nations would have to have an army more than 1000 times it’s present size in order to be even ABLE to even TRY to do such a thing. Such a massive growth in the U.N.'s own standing forces is not likely in our lifetimes, such things take decades, maybe centuries to accomplish.

What, then, about individual governments? Some, true, like China, Cuba, North Korea…are opposed to religion in general, and the European Union is not very amenable to the Traditional Morality of Christianity in some areas (i.e. gay marriage, etc), but even these countries are VERY open to what could be called progressivist Christian bodies (and I use the term “Christian” loosely in this case).

Is Islam a false religion? The JWs certainly agree that it is.
Is Islam on it’s way out any time soon?
Do the JWs seriously believe, for example, that the ISLAMIC government of the ISLAMIC REPUBLIC of Iran is REALLY going to suddenly turn and destroy Islam in that country ??? The government there IS the Islamic clergy, for Pete’s sake.
Do the JWs seriously believe that the deeply Islamic regime of Saudi Arabia, which not only tolerates but FINANCES Islam within it’s borders, is REALLY going to obliterate Islam any time soon??? The same could be asked about the Islamic leaders of Jordan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Egypt, Sudan, you name it.
Do the JWs seriously believe that the Government of the
Republic of ISRAEL is REALLY going to turn and obliterate JUDAISM any time soon??? The JWs believe Judaism (modern Judaism) to be a “false religion,” do they seriously expect the Jewish-led Israeli government to outlaw it’s own religion???

Do the JWs really expect the Practicing Hindu leaders of the government of India to attack and abolish Hinduism in that enormous country ???

Again, it is true that God can put an idea into someone’s heart.
But there is simply no evidence whatsoever that a worldwide obliteration of all religions other than JWs, is in the works. There isn’t ANYWHERE the military strength available, which the nations and the UN would need in order to be able to even TRY to accomplish such a massive thing.

JWs should really re-think what the Watchtower Society is teaching them. The Society has made many, many predictions in the past, not ONE of which has come to pass.
The Society has claimed, speaking for God, that:
Armageddon would occur in 1874.
Armageddon would occur in 1878.
Armageddon would occur in 1914.
Armageddon would occur in 1915.
Armageddon would occur in 1918.
“Worldwide, all-embracing Anarchy” would occur in 1920.
The Old Testament heroes would be resurrected on earth
in 1925.
The Old Testament heroes would be resurrected on earth “any day now” “very soon” after 1925, and even built a mansion in San Diego, California, called “Beth Sarim” for them to live in, complete with 2 new Cadillacs for them to drive. ( Can’t you just see Moses, flowing beard and all, zipping down the freeway in his Cadillac, elbow resting on the window frame??? )
World War Two was the beginning of Armageddon.
In the 1940s we were living in “the remaining MONTHS before Armageddon.”
Armageddon would be coming in the mid 1970s.
Also, what of Christ’s one thousand year reign of peace over the earth? THAT they say began in 1914. It is now 2006 and the world is still full of sin and violence. Shouldn’t they now be speaking of the 900 year reign of Christ in peace over all the earth? After all, we are now, by their reckoning, 92 years INTO the Millenial Reign of Christ.
I admire the sincerity of most JWs. But I feel for them too.
I really wish they would step back and look long and hard at the things “The Society” predicts in God’s name, claiming to be his authorized mouthpiece. If they did, many of them would leave.
Many of them already have.

excellent! 👍

Okay, I will keep this short. I kinda get lost in long posts, so i will be brief. I think charity is needed. all forms, including feeding the hungry, and all the other stuff that was mentioned. I dont know how to really link stuff from other sites. look at the press release section on the jw site. www.watchtower.org
I need to sit down and learn this site and computer. Sorry. But, as far as linking to things like financial statements, I dont believe that’s on the web. We all know what our individual halls have in the bank. We find out every month. more next post(thanks for that one)

dear friend,

did you look at those links i provided for you? silentlambs.org? regarding charity, have you seen a homeless family on your street and visited with them and taken them out for lunch?

the society does not donate to cancer or stroke or diabetes foundations, or aids or even the local food banks. that is a fact. when was the last time you donated to one of these foundations? not that it is any of my business because its not.

do you make a regular habit out of helping charities for say, sudanese refugees? foster parents plan? exct? or do you donate only to the society?

i have not seen the press release section please provide us with the link. copy it from the site and paste it here if you would please in your post. from what i see there have been no public mentions of donations to cancer research, diabetes, aids research, local food banks, foster parents plan, kidney foundation, heart and stroke foundation, no community help in organizing coat drives, no community organization in having a supper for the poor like the shelters do, and so on.

Know the TRUTH and the TRUTH will set you FREE.
