Dr. Who? Anyway, the latest stats indicate that 80% of cases are mild, flu-like. So?

Due to a stem cell transplant and suppressed immune system, I’ll be in the other 20%. I spent seven months of last year down with various, mostly unidentified viruses. Oh, one of them was rhinovirus - the ‘common’ cold. Ha! Common until it becomes pneumonia and I’m on a first name basis with the university hospital infectious diseases doctors. Again.

However, I have a secret, but costly weapon: My son’s hyper-vigilant immune system, which was transplanted into me. We can turn it loose if we have to, but it won’t be pretty. As my hematologist puts it: “We had to use a monster to defeat the beast” (three cancers).

Maybe we should all read Philipians 1. Saint Paul longed to depart and be with his beloved Christ, but agreed to remain and suffer on earth as long as there was profitable work for him to do.

We either dive into our faith, or we risk…

Good advice. Coronaviruses are nothing new, and some cause the common cold. Chances are you might have had one already in your lifetime. This covid-19 is just a really nasty version of one. According to a report it has an overall case fatality rate of about 1%. Comparably, the swine flu pandemic a decade ago had a fatality rate of about 0.05%. The Spanish flu pandemic a century ago killed about 15% of people infected.

For some reason the virus is much deadlier in China than outside. In Hubei, where it originated, the fatality rate was 18%.

Just learned the Archdiocese of Detroit is recommending no wine be used in the liturgy.

And the sky has fallen for a great number of people…loss of life and disrupted lives.
And many are concerned about aged loved ones. I worry about our Pope Francis and the very many aged religious.
I was worried when the Pope took a couple of days off because of sickness, but looks like he is alright now and it wasn’t the virus.

They do it better than any other organization with a similar mission.
They have no competition
They can do far better
How do you know if there is nothing to compare it with? Of course it is theoretically possible to better with a larger budget. Remember, it was through the efforts of the WHO that smallpox has been eliminated, and polio almost eliminated, but for the ideological opposition and disformation from some ISIS-like groups

I presume you mean that the Precious Blood will not be distributed at Communion, not that the priest is going to skip consecrating the Precious Blood as part of the Mass.

Several churches around here have already stopped distributing the Precious Blood because we are having a flu outbreak or so I hear.

What was this thread originally about?
The new Coronovirus in China and its spread globally. Note- Election politics in USA is off topic
Oh!

Let’s begin a flag-a-thon!

After all, fair is fair, is it not?

Is that to me?
If it is not too much to ask
This is my thread, go start a new one on election politics vs corona virus please if that is what people want to discuss.
Having been flagged off topic myself in a few threads, I now respect this and do try not to go off topic in others threads.

On topic, the new please the virus is spreading from Iran, several countries are experiencing spread from people recently travelled to and from Iran.

Who is the WHO’s competition?

Why is it always about more money with liberals?

Read the links I’ve provided, they waste the money they are given.

The death rate in Iran is much higher. I continue to question how accurate the numbers are.

Also, I have watched the price rise and availability go down of OTC oxygen concentrators. The average price went up $100 in about one week.

Asian and US futures are down.

Indonesia is still recording no cases.
Vietnam says it has cured all 16 cases of corona virus. That is great news.

But I will reply if someone makes a polirical statement that is blatantly untrue and dishonest.

Your opinion. Fact is, it takes money to defeat smallpox and they did it.

Yes, medicine and medical care is very costly.
WHO does have a political agenda…politics and good medicine do not work.

So, if US is struggling to get enough test kits together, numbers from various countries are more inaccurate than we care to imagine.
All I figure, is that we might soon understand why some countries are shutting down so much as they wrangle with the problem. I was going to add a Langoliers gif at this point…
