Dr. Who? Anyway, the latest stats indicate that 80% of cases are mild, flu-like. So?
Due to a stem cell transplant and suppressed immune system, I’ll be in the other 20%. I spent seven months of last year down with various, mostly unidentified viruses. Oh, one of them was rhinovirus - the ‘common’ cold. Ha! Common until it becomes pneumonia and I’m on a first name basis with the university hospital infectious diseases doctors. Again.
However, I have a secret, but costly weapon: My son’s hyper-vigilant immune system, which was transplanted into me. We can turn it loose if we have to, but it won’t be pretty. As my hematologist puts it: “We had to use a monster to defeat the beast” (three cancers).
Maybe we should all read Philipians 1. Saint Paul longed to depart and be with his beloved Christ, but agreed to remain and suffer on earth as long as there was profitable work for him to do.
We either dive into our faith, or we risk…
