Here is a review of the copy of the Baltimore Catechism that I bought and was happily surprised at the extensive guidelines for bible study … AND a summary of the traditional prayers [ page 5] … AND a detailed discussion of the Ten Commandments and of the Commandments of the Church [pages 95-138] and the Sacraments [ pages 144 to 235] … Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Eucharist, Penance, Anointing of the Sick [ aka … the last rites] … Holy Orders, Matrimony.
[If you want to cure the dumbing down of our children and of our adults, then read this book and read it to your children as part of “home schooling” or supplementing the education that your kids are receiving.]
[I started putting yellow stickies on the pages, but there is just so much really excellent, well-summarized, essential material here. Instead of coloring, review these chapters with your kids. Let us take back our Church!]
[Meet with your pastor to get this book added to the teaching curriculum … enough of “learning by osmosis”!]
And of the Mass … pp 259ffm [which by the way is the “new” (restored) translation.
A detailed dictionary … pp 244 ff.
Sacramentals … pp 223 ff.
Prayer … pp 226ff
The virtues: Faith, Hope, and Charity pp 64ff
The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit … pp 65 ff … wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, fear of the Lord.
The twelve fruits of the Holy Spirit … pp 66 ff … charity, joy, peace, patience, benignity, goodness, long-suffering, mildness, faith, modesty, continency, and chastity.
This book is an amazing reference work that everyone should have front and center in their bookshelf.
The eight beatitudes: pp 67ff
This is an amazing book.
And if you want something with more detailed explanations and discussions and specific prayers and scriptural references, go right to the Catechism of the Catholic Church … and also to “My Daily Bread” by the Confraternity of the Precious Blood
