Well considering that they won’t get the visa if they don’t pay it, it’s rather silly to assume that they won’t considering the massive advantages (come out of the shadows, be able to travel, drive, etc.) that would be reaped by obtaining the visa.

That’s another thing people forget…travelling privileges. During our time here, both my grandfather and aunt die dand my family could not go to the funeral in Haiti. That was especially hard on my mom. Why would anyone choose that? We would have paid thousands of dollars in fees if necessary. We certainly spend that much on lawyers who actually couldn’t do very much.

Kendy
Why worry about travelling if all you have to do is go back right over the border.

And risk getting caught and arrested? Again, why would anyone do that?

I read about a Mexican man who got deported and thus, was separated from his family. Sure, he could try to sneak back in, but it’s risky, dangerous (people die crossing the desert), and expensive (if they have to pay a smuggler.) Illegals usually try to stay put and not tempt fate if they can avoid it.

Plus, it would be so much nicer if you could just wave your green and come in and out. Why would anyone not choose this if he could? Why? Why? Why? :banghead:

Why come in the country in the first place across a desert where the chances of making it out are sim? Why? Why? Why? :banghead:

Why not cross back and forth over the border? I mean, if you can get away with it once, why not twice? If it works for the drug runners, why not me? Why? Why? Why? :banghead:

Guess what? People don’t always act reasonable and do sensible things!

I feel like I’m talking to my five year old niece: why this? why that?
Well, maybe because you’re not old enough/mature enough to get it, to naive or too sheltered or maybe you can’t see the trees because of the forest.

This nation was built by immigrants as was said earlier. I don’t mind them wherever they come from be it from Asia, Africa, Latin America, etc. The thing is we are talking about legal vs illegal. I think maybe the immigrant laws should be made so that it is easier to immigrate but at the same time the law should be made tougher for those that violate those laws. **Illegal **immigrant laws should be made tougher. I however, don’t believe that those that say that the CC should not accept illegals is correct. The Church should minister to whoever is asking for the sacraments. If somebody wants to make first communion, confirmed, etc., I don’t think it should be against the law for the CC to administer those sacraments. However, if a parish priest is going to hire a housemaid and if the applicant is suspect, the priest should make sure that that person is here legally.

My parents immigrated here legally. They had a tough time but they made it. They had to flee Mexico because of the revolution. Matter of fact, my grandfather used to have a large spread with many workers and one of the factions took it away from him and he had to flee. The Mexican government was powerless to do anything. My father even though he never applied for citizenship (why, I don’t know) made sure that we were proud to be Americans and respected the American Flag. We never had a Mexican flag in our house. He wanted us to be true Americans. That’s the thing that bothers me about some of these protesters. They shout “VIVA MEXICO” and display the Mexican Flag. If that’s the way they want it, they should go back to Mexico. What would happen if a bunch of American students in Mexico City, staged a protest carrying American flags and shouting “Long Live the USA” and disrupt traffic, etc. How would the Mexican people look on them? Huh? In my opinion, those that are protesting should be protesting against the Mexican Government. It’s the Mexicans governments fault that they have to come to the USA for a better life. They should carry slogans denouncing Fox and his ineptness to improve the standard of living for Mexicans. The Mexican government should be doing more to stop the “coyotes” that fleece the poor people and just dump them across the border. What should the USA do for those that think it’s unfair to try to stop the “illegals”? Yes everybody has a right to a better life but I think its ridiculous that the USA should just open up its borders and let everybody and their MIL come here and get on welfare. I have many relatives from Mexico, and none of them are here illegally. They all took their time to get the necessary papers. Some had to travel back and forth many times until they finally they got their “legal status” to immigrate. Yes, I think we should show compassion and mercy and feed the hungry etc., regardless of status. I had have people knock at my door asking for food. I know that they probably were illegals but I will not judge at that point. We feed them and send them on their way and pray for them. However, if some of them get caught and sent back, yes I feel sorry for them but they broke the law. That’s the bottom line. ** They broke that law and need to go back.** Think about it, it we open our borders and invite all to come in, this nation will be full of undocumented and the government will have 1 billion mouths to feed. That will send America down the drain. Then who is going to feed America? I think also the law that anybody born here regardless of whether legal or illegal is automatically made a US citizen is wrong. If they are illegal, they should be fed, and mother, father (if here too), and child need to go back to their country of origin.

Hey I have a great IDEA. Why don’t we just invade Mexico, make it part of the USA. That way we wont have to worry about that many illegals. They would not worry about trying to come to the USA because they will already be in the USA. We also wont have to worry protecting a1700 mile border; just one a few miles long in the southern part of the new state of Mexico.

No, but its suppoesd to show how silly your arguements come across. Tell me something: if roughly 2.5 mi illegal aliens from south of the border were offered amnesty roughly 20 yrs ago, why didn’t they take it? According to your arguements there is no way that could happen, but it did. GO look it, it makes for some very interesting reading.

Mexicans are a mix of Spainish, Incan, and Aztec. It’s no more theirs then it is ours.
I think they probably know that 😉 .

Anyway, I really would like you to flesh out your point here. It’ll be fun:).

Kendy

The American Indians I talked too definetly disagree with those racist Mexicans… and yes they are racist… Mexican racists need to go back to Mexico.

But I guess its ok since they are doing it for… La Raza.

BUILD THE WALL!

My point is why do you want to keep people like that in this country when they are here already, illegaly, and spewing hate about the country they so desperately want to stay in.

And to add to this, why on God’s green Earth are you going to holler and scream about your rights (which u don’t have since you came here illegally) while waving around the flag of the country you so desperately tried to leave??

You know I’m not going to let you upset me again with your silly insults. I graduate magna Cum Laude from a top University with a double major…Oh, I also receive a $60,000 a year felowship to get a PHD at the University (You know that school with more Nobel prize winners than any university in the world, especially in economic theory). Oh, I also won a regional championship prize in competitive debate once.

Anyway, I hate to resort to this approach, but it’s the second time you have resorted to making fun of my arguments rather than engaging with them. I am no dumby and I don’t make silly arguments.

As for the offer of amnesty, why didn’t you bring us this very fascinating information before. Perhaps, you can help us by providing with some help locating it since I am not finding anything on google. And this data certainly merits our attention. At the very least, it fascinating.

Lastly, like I said before this strange theory of your flies in the face of three centuries of social science research. If you were in an academic setting, the onus would be on you to prove that some of the best minds in the world have simply been wrong about human economic behavior. And if you could not do that very quickly, they would think you’re very silly.

Like I care? I know a lot of people with your same academic background: interesting to talk to, but most of them have no real world experince (basically, no common sense/ real life experience about the rest of the world). They think all they need to know about life comes out of a textbook, and if it doesn’t everyone else is the wrong. And when they get frustrated or get proven wrong they all brag about their accomplishments.

Because all you do is go in circles.

Go dig it up in your school library; I never read about it on the net, read it when I was an undergrad in the library. Since you are way smarter than this dum southern boy w/ only a criminal justice degree, I’m sure you can find it quickly and easily.

They are not pretending to be ignorant. How people identify themselves may have nothing to do with the percentage of what blood they have. I am 1/8 white because I have a white great-grandparent. The world considers me and I consider myself black. Likewise, the fact that Mexicans may have some Spanish blood does not mean they don’t identify with their Indigenous heritage. That’s not ignorant… that’s just a very weird but all too common component of racial identify formation. Race is a social construct and people construct it in very odd ways. And frankly, Mexicans certainly look more native in American than most other Hispanic groups although I am not going to claim to know their racial distribution.

As for their racial politics, I don’t much about it. But did Europeans conquer North and South America? Yes. Was it right to dislocate millions of Native Americans? Not in my view. Should European Americans go home? Well, that’s silly. This is now their home no matter how their ancestors came to have it. And anyone who thinks they can send them back to Europe is delusional. You’d have better luck sending 11 million illegals back to their country.

And frankly, the anger of a handful of native americans is nothing to fear. Americans, particularly white Americans, have way too much power and wealth to be harmed by it.

You’re right you shouldn’t care about my accomplishment. I was just getting tired of having you insult my intelligence. But you have hardly proven a thing. You have made a rather unlikely claim that Mexicans are somehow different. It would be fascinating social science if you could indeed prove it, but you have not. You have only assert it.

Now, I have only asserted that Mexicans must be rational and utility maximzing and therefore there must a reason for their behavior. I have not proven that, but I don’t need to because it has already been proven over and over again. Thus, I have years of established research to stand on. You’re the one who is contradicting years of established social science research so the onus is frankly on you.
