Is the the thread where an out of control mob of protesters is screaming about demanding democracy?
Sorry, apologies, yesterday the governor was toast.Looks like negotiations are over
I wonder if the British said something similar back in the late 1700s.Is the the thread where an out of control mob of protesters is screaming about demanding democracy?
You mean after the founding fathers all fled to Florida so they wouldn’t have to vote on the Declaration of Independence?I wonder if the British said something similar back in the late 1700s.![]()
j-u-s-t-k-i-d-d-i-n-g …death threats have begun pouring into the state capitol, aimed at Republicans. Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald released the text of one through spokesman Andrew Wellhouse that threatened to “assault” several elected Republican officials at their homes:“We have received several more threats over the past few weeks as well, and protesters have actually gone so far as to go up to (Fitzgerald’s) house and bang on the windows at 6 a.m. demanding that he come out,” Welhouse said.
Tim Donovan, a spokesman for the Department of Administration and Capitol Police, had no immediate comment Thursday morning.
Here’s an excerpt of the email provided by Welhouse:
“This is how it’s going to happen: I as well as many others know where you and your family live, it’s a matter of public records. We have all planned to assault (sic) you by arriving at your house and putting a nice little bullet in your head. However, this isn’t enough. We also have decided that this may not be enough to send the message. So we have built several bombs that we have placed in various locations around the areas in which we know that you frequent…”
but isn’t that the definition of democracy?death threats have begun pouring into the state capitol, aimed at Republicans. But Pope John Paul II was referring to states which outlawed unions altogether in a Soviet style communist totalitarian form of government, not were freely elected officials outlawed collective bargaining by state employees. The right of workers to organize into unions is part of Catholic social doctrine. When the secular state aims to destroy a union, it acts counter to Church teaching. Such state action needs to be protested…vigorously.
Pope John Paul II, in his encyclical Centesimus annus stated…
“The theological dimension is needed both for interpreting and for solving
present day problems in human society”.
meaning that Church social doctrine is a matter of faith; Catholics are bound to believe that teaching.
It would appear that the Wisconsin Democrats made the mistake of bringing a knife to a gun fight.Looks like negotiations are over
He’s still toast. Along with at least eight of his fellow repubs. Also, We’ll have to see what the courts decide as to the legality of Walkers actions.Sorry, apologies, yesterday the governor was toast.
Today, he’s not toast.
Yesterday, there were out of town visitors demanding the governor capitulate.
Today, Janet Napolitano is writing letters about rightwing extremism about people who reject Federal authority in favor of state legislatures.
So, I guess the governor is a rightwing extremist, unless it is the thousands of protesters demanding democracy and demanding the elected government capitulate to the mob. [Would that be mobocracy?]
I’m confused.
I’ll bet that if labor wins, the Republicans will whinge about “activist judges.”He’s still toast. Along with at least eight of his fellow repubs. Also, We’ll have to see what the courts decide as to the legality of Walkers actions.

Yeah, union mouthpieces claimed similar about Mitch Daniels. He’s since won re-election.He’s still toast. Along with at least eight of his fellow repubs. Also, We’ll have to see what the courts decide as to the legality of Walkers actions.

Republicans never support judicial activism, without or without the scare quotes. I find it ironic that Democrats do, since the will of the majority is at the heart of democracy.I’ll bet that if labor wins, the Republicans will whinge about “activist judges.”
As Roe v Wade is effectively settled law, it’ll mean judicial activism if it gets overturned. I think the GOP will be for activism then!Republicans never support judicial activism, without or without the scare quotes. Yes, much like we were for other unjust laws.As Roe v Wade is effectively settled law, it’ll mean judicial activism if it gets overturned. I think the GOP will be for activism then!
Roe v. Wade is settled case law. It was not an act of the legislature If the courts overturned it in absense of any legislative action, it would be judicial activism, yes. However, if the law was changed by the legislative branch or by act of amendment, then it is not judicial activism. Elected representatives are elected to represent. It is not activism when they perform their primary function. It is the legislature that should legislate. As Roe v Wade is effectively settled law, it’ll mean judicial activism if it gets overturned. I think the GOP will be for activism then!
