Toxic effeminacy kills the Boy Scouts

Total softness has entered the American male.

There are just so many soft, complaining, vain and flamboyant boy-men today.

I’ve been reading about Trail Life for years, ever since BSA decided to abandon its core values, and it looks like a good program. What about Trail Life is repugnant? What about Trail Life is not Christian?

I am interested in the courage fortitude and quiet self sacrificing virtues of men, who can say difficult things and not worry a nanosecond about it whether they offend snowflake types.

A “Scout” is a soldier or other person sent out ahead of a main force so as to gather information about the enemy’s position, strength, or movements. Perhaps “Scout” is no longer an appropriate term for the group. It’s much too militaristic. Surely that might be an offensive micro-aggression to those who do not like the military. 😎

I was. It made a huge difference in my life. While I was reading to this point I was thinking about how backpacking trips and rigorous hikes that I went on, would still be possible if girls were included. At that age, most [not all I am sure] girls would find hiking ten miles in one day over the mountains with a heavy backpack very difficult. It was a tough time depending on the hikes, for the boys. Girls in middle school have not developed enough yet to be able to pull that kind of thing off.

Would there be pressure to make the hikes and trips easier? I just cant imagine the boy scouts I belonged to being fair to girls. Primitive camping trips, mile swims, repelling down a canyon wall? No problem for grown up gals, but not your average 8th grade girl.

I don’t see where that is being sexist, or anything else. It is just the physical reality. Of course the scouts could have changed since the 1970s, Most things have I guess.

Other than Dr Smith the gender breakdown of the core cast is identical to the original show. The two parents do a great job of showing two strong personalities occasionally begrudgingly yielding to the other. It’s an entire family of incredibly capable people and the show does a good job of showing that.

I hated being in the Brownies but I did it; it did me a lot more good than harm. I agree that this is quite a statement on the current toxicity of Western culture. We can’t even socialize/form our kids in a healthy way in terms of gender identity. What kind of future generations are we fostering? We are getting kids so confused and neutralized from the start. They won’t have any identity or direction at all by the time we are done with them. There is nothing wrong with boys being boys and girls being girls… I have said this before, but in Nietzschean or Darwinian terms, this is a big fat “NO” to life. And that matters if all you have left is Nietzsche and Darwin to believe in. We can’t even handle that anymore.

Maureen Robinson is the commander, and ex-wife of her husband John Robinson. In addition to being the commander she is a engineering genious who repairs the two engines which were damaged on the craft, literally taking all the components apart and having them cleaned then reassembling it. The husband plays more of the buffoon in this part of the series.

Their daughter, Judy Robinson who is also black(not sure about the reasons behind it) is an arrogant teenager who has advance knowledge in medicine. She is strong willed and twice nearly gets killed and gets everyone else killed because of her arrogance and doing things on her own rather than consulting with her parents, who are the adults. But she celebrated for her awesomeness. 😉

Will Robinson, the 2nd male of the group, is a sensitive well mannered lad, who plays the part a female would want a male to be like.

Penny Robinson, although not as smart as the others, has the arrogance of a “strong woman,” well at least stronger than her father and brother.

I could go on, but it’s nothing like the TV show Lost in Space which I grew up with.

Other than that, the series is pretty good.

While I agree with keeping boys and girls apart for things like scouting, this argument isn’t a good one.

I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2015 and met plenty of young ladies who were not handicapped by the hiking. I averaged around 15 miles a day, and some of the younger ladies were doing more than that. However I did see weekend groups of teenagers where the girls weren’t keeping up with the boys. Point is, girls can keep up with hiking if they want. Strength and speed is another thing, though.

What I did see on the trail was a lot of hooking up. Put young men and women together in groups like this and that’s what you’ll get. Steamy tents.

HE’S 11. He deals with things the way an 11 year old would. And Judy appears black because her father was black.

The so called weak male cast is an engineer and a navy seal. The show highlights their different skills throughout the season. Maureen is the mission commander for their Jupiter but the colony commander is male.

I know he’s 11, but doesn’t behave the way most 11 year old boys do, which is the point.

Thanks for the update on Judy.

The show does hi-light their skills, but the males have less skill than the females.

And a Navy seal taking orders from his ex-wife ?

Well there may be a point here, but it wouldn’t have anything to do with command of a spacecraft. 😃

I know a woman who is an Eagle Scout but that might have more to do with her dad was scout master and 3 brothers where in scouts and her mom was in medical residency and specialized post residency training

Perhaps it’s my age, I don’t know

However, I recall my former manger, who told be about a situation which happened with his daughter, just 10 years ago, when she entered 1st grade.

His wife was a volunteer aid so the story came through her.

After the first week of school, just before recess, the teacher told the class, “if any of you see something that doesn’t seem right, or some one is doing something wrong, you come and let us know.”

So, the bell rang and the kids went outside for recess.

Except six little girls who stood in line before the teacher. Each one had to tell the teacher what she saw that was wrong. For of the six, it was about what the girl saw a boy doing. The other two were to complain about other girls not being friends with them.

Not one boy was complained and never did that entire year. They just wanted to go outside and play.

People who try to tell us there is no difference between girls and boys emotionally, are delusional.

You pointed out she’s the mission commander. SEALs tend to observe such things. Doubly so when his own family is often at risk.

To clarify with Judy, she was Maureen’s child from a previous relationship that John had adopted and helped raise.

Find me the 11 year old boy who wouldn’t befriend the 8 foot tall robot. I would have.

FInd me a space mission were only two of the crew are males ? 😃

Nothing repugnant about Trail Life. There are troops in many church organizations now, including Catholic parishes.

4H isn’t an option to most, you have to live very rural.
Stop making this an either or discussion.

As I said, 4H is fantastic for rural kids, whom are really required to learn help to help on the farm - very practical stuff. Scouts still had many merit badges one could pursue that would enlighten a young mind in new areas. And when I was a boy it was a different time, mixing boys and girls then would not have worked out well. We’ve changed much culturally since then.
