Absolutely so and also, back to eugenics. Hey, anyone voting for politicians who hold Planned Parenthood dear,…
If you’d like to talk about abortion, why not start another thread rather than trying to hijack this one?

Please don’t be rude to me, I’m not the one who may be inconsistent, hypocritical and libeling others as into eugenics while I support it as anyone who votes for the likes of many candidates do. You were the one who posted a headline slandering others here. Excuse me.

May I suggest Christian charity to all?

We should put it to a vote, if one supports an organization like PP, known for their foundations in eugenics and basically, still carry it on, is this not pertinent to the debate if someone is out there accusing others of eugenics? Seems pretty obvious to me.

What has been said (clearly too) is that confirming or denying entrance based on status or earning potential is wrong… and un-Catholic
You have not proven that point. I am Catholic. That one UCSSB statement does seem to address that of which you state.

I’m at a loss…Who may be doing the things you suggest?

Sincerely…, why do you interject abortion in to the immigration discussion? I’m at a loss

I know other threads have seen this story, but it’s worth bringing up again.

So supporting Democrats is not the answer to the immigration issue.

I am wondering if Pres. Trump has made the “limits” proposals based on our rather dismal record of assimilating immigrants into the country. Yes, we should welcome the poor, etc. but if they come into this country and are ignored and left to become poorer, sicker, and more desperate, and if many are turning to crime to survive–then what should the Pres. do? He is the Commander in Chief, and he can’t allow this to continue.

There are plenty of stories from secular media that demonstrate the truth of what I am saying about failure of immigrants to become safely assimilated.

I stand by my statement that allowing the skilled and healthy to come in FIRST and pave the way for their poorer countrymen is a wise strategy, not a cruel or “non-Christian” strategy.

This is the approach that has been used so well by Asians, who come to this country with business savvy, start up restaurants and other small businesses, and then bring over a family member and put them to work in their small business in an area where they don’t have to know English to succeed, and as the relative learns ESL and gains other American necessities (e.g., drivers license), they move up in the business and eventually they are starting their own business and bring other relatives and friends over.

We are friends with a wealthy Asian family (China) and have talked to them about how well this works. It’s a definite strategy–it’s not just this one family.

So why not allow other nationals to use this same strategy? I know that the Pres. is aware of the declining population of the U.S. and the pressing need for more workers–so perhaps he is working with various nationals to implement this same strategy.

WHAT IS THE ALTERNATIVE? Allowing the poor to come on in and squat in a slum with no contacts in this country and no help except from kind people? Churches are apparently not allowed to sponsor them anymore, although I know that churches can provide charitable aid–good plan there! Keep giving handouts–that will really help the immigrant to succeed in their new country–NOT!

I suppose our taxes could be raised with the idea that the money would go towards helping immigrants become U.S. citizens, but we all know that in reality, the taxes will pay the salaries and benefits, as well as pay for the buildings and offices, of those who are hired by the government to implement this wonderful government assimilation. Taxes are NOT the answer! Taxes will only create more resentment from the current citizens towards immigrants.

No, I think Pres. Trump is enacting a wise and yes, compassionate plan! I think that the media is presenting his plan as cruel and non-Christian. Until I hear from my bishop that this plan is cruel and that we Christians should protest, I will not believe what the OP is trying to make us believe.

Abortion is injected into just about every conversation in the World News forum. I haven’t figured out if it is a way of getting out of discussing other thorny issues or a way of excusing other bad behaviors.

Legal abortion is the source of much of the evil in the U.S. and in the world.

If we don’t value human life, how can we possibly assess the needs of others and come up with life-giving strategies to help them?

Abortion warps all of our moral perspective. It turns us into people who call “killing of humans” good.

When we get the abortion issue correct–banning it–we will value human life and be more willing to commit to helping the poor, the sick, the disabled, the mentally-ill, the unskilled, and the criminal. But until then, we will continue to de-value people that we distrust, dislike, and that disgust us.

Secy. of State Clinton illustrated my point perfectly when she labelled a group of people as “deplorables” and Irredeemable." Of course she is free to disagree with them, but she did more than that–she “devalued them” making it clear that she didn’t consider them worth trying to help. THAT’S what abortion does to our thinking, and THAT’S why we keep bringing it up in every thread–the human life issue is paramount to gaining a proper, ordered view of our responsibilities towards all mankind.

Whenever you draw a line that separates other people from you, Jesus is on the other side of the line. Never on your side. Migrants, prisoners, the poor, people of a different race, Muslims, it doesn’t matter, Jesus is on their side, not ours.
So when the Church draws a line that separates itself from pedophile priests, Jesus stands on the side of the pedophiles?

Clear admission of the direction this administration is taking immigration. The downtrodden will be denied and the affluent catered to. Truly a shameful time…
Your analysis is incomplete.

First, there is nothing new about the desire to follow the models used by Canada and Australia, where visas for regular immigration are given based on skills the country desires. This is really common sense.

Second, the truly needy are covered by ongoing refugee immigration and foreign aid.

When did your family immigrate to the US? And what special skills did they have that made your family more desirable than the next?

America is almost exclusively a country of immigrants, save the native Americans. It seems we have an amazingly good track record of assimilating immigrants.

Please see post #65 for several articles that illustrate the bishops position.

My family emigrated in various waves.

In 1900’s my great grandparents came to the US from Italy. My great grandmother was an illiterate seamstress, who then became a mother and helped run a boarding house for other immigrants.

My great grandfather was a 21 year old. He worked on the railroad in Illinois. His education was limited, but he could read.

They returned to Italy. The US born children (us citizens) moved back to the US.

I’m a first generation us citizen. All of my cousins in the US that share these great grandparents are educated and productive. We are teachers, accountants, artists, engineers, therapists, business owners.

My husband has a similar background. In one generation the children were teachers and engineers. One cousin is a navy seal.

These are American stories.

That is great…truly an American story!

Unfortunately, it may not have happened if the immigration policy that is being proposed today by the Trump administration. I’m glad it did!

My family’s story is similar…

Give it up, hon. I’ve asked that here (and elsewhere) a number of times. Nobody can provide a reference. It’s a handy false boogeyman.
I know … but I won’t give up! Truth counts !!!

I think you’re shouting into the wind here, Victoria. I hope Trump isn’t, at least not entirely. There are powerful forces supporting open borders. There are the wealthy business people who love slave labor, both here and abroad. Then there are the “America haters” who want to replace the population with one they think will support their perverse ideologies forever, out of gratitude. (I think they’re in for a big surprise on that, in one generation)

The fact that all people are equal before god and can move to other countries does not mean they have the right to enter any country they choose to with that country having no say in the matter. I am sure you also read the part of the catechism that says nations have a right to control their own borders and immigration policy.

Your interpretation of this would suggest that nations and borders cannot exist because that is against God’s will. Which is incorrect.

I agree that abortion is an important issue. But it should not be used as a cudgel to prevent discussions on every other issue. In my opinion, if it is that important to someone that they can’t discuss anything else without bringing it up, they should think about not barging in on other topics.

Just my opinion.
