Trump's incompetence makes Andrew Cuomo's performance look better than it is

I guess Governor Cuomo has to explain what happened in his state and the surrounding states. New York was the hot spot.

I guess Trump has to explain what happened in his nation as it is the world’s hot spot.

New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachussettes, Pennsylvania, Michigan
and Illinois. Add up the number of deaths in those 7 states.

Europe was the hotspot - Italy, Spain, U.K. and France.

New York was the hotspot in our country. The cases in New York multiplied and spread to surrounding states and the rest of the country.

How did Cuomo not realize how vulnerable his state was and why did Cuomo show so much disregard for the elderly living in nursing homes?

The rest of the nation did pretty well. Cuomo warned we were all going to experience the tragedy of New York. Cuomo was wrong. Yes, people became sick and there were deaths, but not on the level as New York.

We don’t have a natural right not to get sick. Especially in a global pandemic.

I will leave it to the experts to study the pandemic when in a few years just like
the AID’s was studied.

My job is to try to take care of myself with the information I have.

I live far from New York and the Northeast. My worries now are the economy
after the “stay at home” order and the future of the businesses that closed for
2 months and their recovery and the housing market.

We should expect that our government acts with competence informed by science, Other nations that did this kept the death tool small during the very same global pandemic.

My worry is the lack of care in the restart that threatens to rekindle the exponential spread of contagion. There is no basis in science to believe that this pandemic is over.

The nation as a whole did poorly as compared to many nations that did well
What are your criteria for doing well vs doing badly (aside from having Trump as president)?

Do you have charts with timelines and cases numbers to show the differences and the results?

Dvdjs doesn’t think anyone is right unless they can cite peer-reviewed work from journals she considers respectable to back them up 🙂

Lower and declining rates of infection and death.
You may look at the individual country data here
COVID Live Update: 188,616,093 Cases and 4,065,804 Deaths from the Coronavirus - Worldometer
There are many factors to be considered.

Like the other poster said, what criteria is being used?

Why did Colorado lower the number of deaths today by 20%?

Can you give a couple examples?
If the United States COVID statistics where bad, then those of New York were horrendous. It is only fair if Trump is judged by his results, that Cuomo also be judged by the same standard, worst in the country, a country with an overall terrible response.

By the way, the United States is still in the top ten percent of deaths per capita, but out of the top ten, at number 11. Yay?
Accepting the help of Samaritan’s Purse when it was needed (except for they sent the patients to nursing homes instead!), and when the situation improved, sending them away on the grounds they were anti–LGBT. Which should count for 3 examples
That was a pretty bad failure of leadership for the sake of political expediency.

Cuomo has the highest job performance polls of any governor and certainly Trump.
He had the most deaths, but then the dead don’t get to vote in polls.

I like my own state’s response from a governor I have never supported in the primary, but then, we are number eight in the country (as in eighth lowest rate of death), and the lowest for a large state.
