If you want to blame the pastor go right ahead. And I will continue to blame the mullahs and the people that actually did the killing.What I don’t want to see happen is for us to allow their barbarity to influence our laws and restrict our freedoms.
I hoped you had noticed I did not blame the pastor solely.

We are bound by ‘man’s laws’, according to where we live. As Christians, we are also bound by a greater calling. For example, our laws allow for abortions to take place, but our calling as Christians tells us we cannot participate in such a law. We should not fall back on ‘man’s laws’ to justify the killing of innocents, at home or abroad. Do we, as Christians, lose personally because of the laws on abortion? Not if we do not support, or participate. Do we as Christians lose, in God’s eye, if we do not support, or participate, in desecrating something considered sacred by another faith, knowing that innocent lives could be at risk for the action?
 
The thing is, they have been doing this before Pastor Jones was even a glimmer in his father’s eye. They don’t need an excuse. They will riot, murder and burn whether Jones burned the book or not. It doesn’t matter what Jones did or didn’t do, they would have rioted, using something, someone else as an excuse. He is not even partially responsible.

My point with the Ethiopian riots was that no one did anything but they rioted, burned churches and drove 10,000 people from their homes.

As another poster pointed out, it was probably an English translation that Jones burned at that and thus not their holy book. Won’t they feel ashamed when they find that out?

To make my analogy about the abused wife a little closer to this situation: She didn’t get dinner on the table because she had left him, so he beat the next woman who came down the street instead. She knew he would react that way. It is her fault that he beat that other woman. She should share some of the responsibility for her injuries. She shouldn’t have left him and provoked him into hurting an innocent third party like that.
It’s still unrelated… the wife leaving did so to get herself out of harms way… Jones was in no danger himself but rather put himself there by his actions as well as anyone else who these radicals felt like attacking. Why do you insist on using an unrelated analogy when the truth is much more compelling?

Bottom line.
  1. It is common knowledge that radical Muslims are known for committing random acts of violence when their faith is insulted.
  2. Jones KNOWS this, even if he didn’t previously he knew it after the FIRST time he was going to do it as he was urged not to by several people including the president not to do it because it would incite violence.
  3. He did it anyway.
Knowing that how can anyone say he’s not partially responsible?

If you had nothing else to deter you except the knowledge that it would result in violence… would YOU have done it?

I would guess that he is in danger now, however the direct result of his actions placed innocent people far removed from himself in danger and a much easier target to achieve in the initial response.

If we all knew people were going to die from the burning, why weren’t there more riots than just in this one Afghan village? Shouldn’t there have been riots and deaths all over. There should have been riots in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt (though granted they have their own problems), here in the US, the Muslim communities in England, and France should have risen up, and all the African and Indian communities too. But the only one that has, is a village in Afghanistan.

  3. He did it. If he knew someone might kill him for it then he takes that risk. If i’m a coal miner and I know a cave might collapse and kill me, then i’m partially liable if a cave collapses and kills me.

Again it’s an invalid comparison… abortionists are not claiming to be men of God.

burning the koran, a holy book to so many people is a great dishonor.

But, to burn a book is to show your ultimate disapproval of the work and its author
and the Koran has many very hateful, violent verses in its pages, and the less I say about Muhammad the better. He was a brutal murderer, and he consummated a relationship with a 6 year old girl, Aisha, when she was six years old, and he was middle aged.

But I still disagree with this man’s actions.

The enemies of the Church of Christ, constantly ridicule His Church and His members yet, we should never pay back with the same evil. The Word of God contained in the Holy Book is sacred for Christians, the same way is the Quram for the Muslims, we must be respectful to the beliefs of our brothers and sisters, regardless of their faith.
Our Savior left for us a new commandment and based on that we’ll all be judged at the end of our earthly lives, “love one another as I have loved you.” He proceed to this command after He explained the reason of “an eye for an eye” is no longer in place, simply, because Christ came to fulfill the Old Law.
Christ brought to us the Mercy of the Father and with His precious Blood He forgave our debt. We, redeemed with a price have to continue His work by also showing mercy to those with whom we disagree. Besides, our Holy Father JP II was closely united to our our brother Muslims and now he’s joining the number of elected in front of the Throne of God.
Judgment belongs to God alone.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in Your infinite Mercy.

I apologize for not explaining it so that everyone could understand it, and giving others an opportunity to twist it in at attempt to somehow validate their view.

It was not in comparison with freedom of speech. It, abortion, was compared to the results in Afghanistan. Both are results of man’s laws. I was attempting to show a more perfect law over man’s laws.

If you’re implying that I would beat my wife, how dare you? If you’re trying to make the same lame comparison, just stop avoiding the reality of it. There’s no point in trying to compare it to anything else because it is a fairly unique situation. Mr. Jones’ actions had intent behind them… he intended to illicit a response and anyone with half a brain knew it would be unpleasant and very likely violent.

As far as my question… fine I’ll re-word it:

If you had nothing else to deter you except the knowledge that it could and likely wouldresult in violence… would YOU have done it?

If you had nothing else to deter you from driving your car other than the knowledge that you could kill someone else in a car accident, will that stop you from driving?

How about instead of retorting with unrelated comparisons you answer the question.

If you knew that an action that you do not need to do would likely result in violence would you do it?

Of course not… why can nobody admit that?
