Well first of all, all you sent doesn’t prove a thing. These are all rumors and there is no physical evidence that proves that the US is physically funding the opposition and if they were it most certainly would not be with arms.

Eitherway it doesn’t change my opinion that the United States really should butt out, or work with Russia to form a pro-secular democracy without either demagouges. Assad is a mass-murderer as well as the group that appears to be the main opposition.

I will not sit and pick between an anti-American/Israeli mass-murdering secular tyrant or an anti-American/Israeli mass-murdering religious tyrant. That is my view, I’m sorry if that doesn’t fit in your black and white view that I have to be in favor of either or…I’m not in this case.

I’m not suggesting siding with one side or the other either. There is no reason to get upset.

I’m not upset, just trying to get my point across. You asked if I side with the US, I do, because the US really hasn’t taken any bold stances as of now and has really remained on the sidelines…that’s how I want it to remain.

You asked if I supported the opposition and I am just simply repeating my answer that both choices are terrible and I do not select either one. 🙂

However, I reserve any further opinion until the free press can document/investigate such allegations…
You are free to reserve your opinion as long as you like.
Oh wait, the free press has been kept out by the Syrian government. Why is that again?
Uh…because it’s a bit of a war zone…and…uh…the press is reporting anti-government bias. If you can’t believe the Catholics and Orthodox on the ground…then there is not much that will convince you otherwise.

Good day. :tiphat:

I think he is bombarding the terrorists…and the terrorists are killing the innocent civilians and trying to blame it on Assad.
Ya think? And your thoughts are supposed to convince me? Where were you and what was your opinion before the opposition was armed and organized for fighting? When demonstrating kids were being shot down or abducted? Was that the terrorists’ doing too?

If so, why didn’t Assad BRING IN THE FREE PRESS to show them what the big, bad terrorists were doing? A leader who wets his pants when kids protest has no business leading anybody…

Are we to assume that there are no Catholics or Orthodox reporters among the international press? Are they all atheist or something? And why would the INTERNATIONAL press be biased against Assad? A wee bit of paranoia perhaps?

As for Syria being a war zone, ever heard of Iraq or Afghanistan or even Lebanon? Somehow the free press got to report from all of those places in the recent decade. Reporters are not soft like some of the world’s infamous pampered despots who seem allergic to their profession. Reporting from a war zone is part of the job. Besides, Syria could hardly have been called a war zone a year ago - unless one considers beating up babies war.

Who’s this Free Press you’re speaking of ? The ones over here who won’t even mention the stripping away of our Constitutional liberties, cover a massive Right to Life march in the capitol, or report on the ethnicity of those involved in a violent flash mob attack.

Ya think?
Yep.
And your thoughts are supposed to convince me?
Nope.
Where were you and what was your opinion before the opposition was armed and organized for fighting?
Talking to people I know from Syria. 😉
How bout you?
Was that the terrorists’ doing too?
Most probable.
If so, why didn’t Assad BRING IN THE FREE PRESS to show them what the big, bad terrorists were doing?
LOL! Cause the “free press” aint so free.

Are we to assume that there are no Catholics or Orthodox reporters among the international press?
An entire delegation of clergy from the Antiochian Orthodox Church in North America travelled to Syria a months ago. They came back with a completely different story but nobody wanted to hear them. The Catholics on the ground say the same thing.
A wee bit of paranoia perhaps?
It is you who are paranoid, misinformed, and a bit rude also. I am sorry that you are in denial. It is not good to believe everything you read. 😉

Good point! 👍

Yeah, the Christians in Syria (most of whom are Orthodox, with some Eastern Catholic, and negligible Latin Rite Catholic) all support Assad. Would they really support him if he were a brutal dictator?

The fact is Assad allowed religious freedom and had a relatively moderate regime for the Middle East. Now he is going to get overthrown by Islamic fundamentalists who just did the same thing in Egypt and voted in the Muslim Brotherhood.

And the media is both biased and ignorant. They want democracy, so when they see people rebelling they think they see democracy. They’re ignorant because they’ll look fools when Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, etc. all look like Iran in a few years.

Exactly! 👍

Just my opinion, and I didn’t think of it first, but what I believe is happening in the Middle East is that the US and Israel are quietly destabilizing countries that they see as a threat in the region. If Assad is toppled, Lebanon is next. A weakened Iraq poses less of a threat, since it’s now divided by serious sectarian strife. Syria in a very short time could look very similar to Iraq, with radical Sunnis slaughtering Christians, Alawites, and Shia, with the latter occasionally striking back in bloody fashion.
Politics makes strange bedfellows as the old adage goes, and the Saudis have no problem temporarily being on the same side as Israel if they believe they can advance the Wahhabist agenda in another country. America is playing with dynamite, and it's going to go off in there faces if they don't realise the errors of there ways.

I agree with this opinion.

I don’t see any reason for the US to be involved other than to possibly keep tabs on who is looking like the victor and try to figure out what they will do.

The revolutions in Egypt and Libya should have taught us that just because the current regime is evil does not mean that the overthrower is going to be any better. It is still too early to tell how those nations are going to pan out. If they end up with a Muslim theocracy, things could end up just as bad as or worse than they were before.

If Assad is overthrown…then you will see the emergence of a true terrorist regime.
Yeah if we just sit back and let the terries take over sure…but we don’t need to repeat the Iranian Revolution of 1979.
