I expect most people still do respect the office. At time, however, the conduct of the man does not command respect for the man. that’s a different thing.So right, except about the ‘nobody’ part.
For as far back as I can remember, I’ve generally had no problem with sitting presidents doing the routine things that presidents do and making the obligatory remarks in support of peace, unity etc.
It’s actually kind of comical how in the current state of affairs, every presidential breath becomes a subject of controversy. Somewhere is the dusty recesses of my mind, I seem to remember learning the obligation to respect the office of the president regardless of who occupies that seat.
