If all companies are forced to provide a decent wage for their employees, it would be a wash. I’d pay a little more for that widget at Walmart, but they would still likely be among the cheapest, and their workers would have extra money to spend on other people’s products.

If all employers are compelled to pay a living wage, the increase in price will be across the board on the products the sell in common. Walmart would probably still be among the cheapest because of their mass buying power, but their employees would be better off.

Yes, I work on Sundays…and I will be working on Thanksgiving. But that’s because I’m single and I VOLUNTEERED to cover shifts for people with families. I do the same thing on Christmas. Quite a few of us who either don’t have kids or have grown children, or who can otherwise move their Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations to other days have volunteered so our fellow workers can have those family celebrations.
I work in a hotel, so we can’t just ask folks to check out on Sundays and Holidays. Luckily, we have management and workers who are willing to work together to give everyone time with their families.

I strongly support a living wage, not a minimum wage. The wage should be adjusted in response to the cost of living in each area. In my opinion, far too many workers do not make anywhere near enough money to support their family. I know of a family who both work jobs that pay a low wage. Its above minimum wage but not by much. They STILL cannot support their family without assistance from welfare. It should not be like that. Companies need to stop being so greedy and start paying their employees a fair wage!
I also believe that all non-essential businesses should close on Sundays, all major holidays, and ideally all Christian holy days as well. I really don’t see any of this happening anytime in the near future.
