Precisely…Coors is a good example. The unions have never been able to get a foothold because they really aren’t needed. Wages, benefits and working conditions are top-notch.

Walmart, etc., on the other hand…not so good.

John
The bottom line is if you like COORS, then you should buy some. If you don’t like Walmart, then don’t shop there.

And you and I would pay higher prices. And then people would see the price difference and start to shop someplace else.

Look, John. Interest rates on investments are already near 0%. People who invest are not going to give away their money any more than you’re going to go out and throw $20 bills on the street. You can’t expect them to.
If all companies are forced to provide a decent wage for their employees, it would be a wash. I’d pay a little more for that widget at Walmart, but they would still likely be among the cheapest, and their workers would have extra money to spend on other people’s products.

You don’t get it, do you?

People are not going to pay more than they have to pay for the same goods. Or interchangeable goods that they regard as having the same or more value to them. Period.

IF you try to compel the behavior you want to see with force, the real behavior will simply go underground. People will do what they need to do. Period.

I don’t like either…just saying that Coors has a much better business model.
Yeah, well, we’re back where we were. If you like Coors, by all means buy some. If you don’t like it, then don’t.

Leave it to the Liberals and Conservative partisans to destroy and derail the thread to instill their political agenda garbage!:mad::mad:

Liberals:
*
This is about Wal-Mart forcing workers to work ridiculous hours keeping them away from their families on Thanksgiving…this isn’t about your “Workers of the world, unite!”, Social Justice, commie Marxist drivel…this is about hours, not pay or unions.*

**
Conservatives:**
*
This is not a union issue…this is a family issue. Wal Mart does not need to be opening on Thanksgiving. Supporting Wal-Mart in this case, supports the destruction of the family and thus destruction of Conservative values. Wal-Mart’s profits will not be hurt if they open at reasonable hours.*

So to the both of you guys de-railing to insert your political agenda…Please, kindly leave 😉

My family does, everyone I know likes to shop local whenever we can.

We like to keep our local color.

Saving .25 on laundry detergent just isn’t worth it.

That’s your choice, ringil, and you’re entitled to it. But not everyone feels that way, and you have to respect that.

I’m not the one not getting it.
If all employers are compelled to pay a living wage, the increase in price will be across the board on the products the sell in common. Walmart would probably still be among the cheapest because of their mass buying power, but their employees would be better off.

Somebody had better tell the people at Walmart that this is not about a job action then. Because they think it is.

Your opinion, John.

Again, that and $1.50 will get you a cup of coffee.

Other people have other opinions, and SHOCK, they can do that! It’s allowed.

No, I really don’t. We form into communities for a reason, and I’d much rather support a local business person than send my money to a faceless mega-store chain.

That is your choice. And if someone wants to shop at Walmart, that is their choice. In the market we all get to vote with our dollars.

Well…this was fun…but as the old saying went…“It’s a beautiful day in Pennsylvania.” Time to enjoy the sun before it vanishes for the next several months.

Be well all

and I have to head off to work…😉

Yes, I work on Sundays…and I will be working on Thanksgiving. But that’s because I’m single and I VOLUNTEERED to cover shifts for people with families. I do the same thing on Christmas. Quite a few of us who either don’t have kids or have grown children, or who can otherwise move their Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations to other days have volunteered so our fellow workers can have those family celebrations.

I work in a hotel, so we can’t just ask folks to check out on Sundays and Holidays. Luckily, we have management and workers who are willing to work together to give everyone time with their families.

Bless you for helping people be home with their families for the holidays! 👍

I strongly support a living wage, not a minimum wage. The wage should be adjusted in response to the cost of living in each area. In my opinion, far too many workers do not make anywhere near enough money to support their family. I know of a family who both work jobs that pay a low wage. Its above minimum wage but not by much. They STILL cannot support their family without assistance from welfare. It should not be like that. Companies need to stop being so greedy and start paying their employees a fair wage!

I also believe that all non-essential businesses should close on Sundays, all major holidays, and ideally all Christian holy days as well. I really don’t see any of this happening anytime in the near future.

As others have said, greed is a huge problem in this nation. I think that all people should do their best to avoid shopping on Sundays, Christian holidays, major secular holidays, and on Black Friday. I am definitely not going shopping on Black Friday.

Who decides what a living wage is?
