What is antisemitism?

I don’t hold anything against the Jewish people because no Jewish person has ever personally wronged me and even then I wouldn’t blame an entire race or religion of people for that.

I simply don’t cover the wool over my eyes and agree with the modern definition of what is considered anti-semitism.

Today’s definition of anti-semitism is the idea that one cannot have a criticism of Judaism, the State of Israel, and other Jewish affairs.

If one were not to support the State of Israel one might be labeled an anti-semite.

If one recognizes that there is racism within certain Jewish circles usually Hasidic or Orthodox communities against non-jewish people particularly Christians one might be considered anti-semitic.

If one recognized that there is some degree of truth in some conspiracy theories although not a complete truth such as the media and Hollywood is run by Jewish people or that a lot of the globalist bankers are Jewish one might be deemed anti-semitic.

That’s not what today’s definition of antisemitism is. You may believe that because some have misappropriated the term but that doesn’t make their use of it accurate.

I provided it earlier in the thread. Antisemitism is hatred of Jews, often resulting in violence against them.

All racial, ethnic, religious, tribal, etc., hatred and violence are bad. Why do we have a special category for Jews?

I’m confused and wondering if you might clarify. There seem to be three claims here and I don’t understand how they connect:
  1. The Holocaust gets hashed around too
  2. I have nothing to forgive the Jewish people
  3. I do find some ideologies within some Jewish sects disturbing

I’m not saying it doesn’t happen. I’m saying it’s difficult to respond when no specific examples can be provided. I don’t recall any instances of it happening here in the forums and I’ve read quite a bit of related threads. It would really help if you could point me in a direction.

Because it has occurred so often, throughout history and in almost every country.

I have many Jewish relatives and I am ethnically half-Jewish. I do take offense to anti-Semitic comments, they are very hurtful. Anti-Semitic comments are on the rise and it is very alarming and disgusting

What’s your definition of anti-semitic comments though.

I take offense to anti-gentile comments. :man_shrugging:t4:

Racism in all forms is bad.

It is. But as GospelofMatthew said, antisemitism is experiencing a resurgence currently. See the link shared earlier in this thread:

What is antisemitism? Philosophy
I can only speak about my experience; and in my experience, I’ve never heard anybody utter an anti-semitic remark. I think most people are conscious of the Holocaust and would never tolerate hatred towards the Jews. While I am thankful that in your corner of the world antisemitism is not a pronounced problem, unfortunately that’s not the case for many other areas.

Zionism is simply the support of a Jewish nation/homeland, how is that racist? To compare Zionism to Nazis or the KKK or what ever is certainly questionable in my mind.
Antisemitism once referred to really bad stuff, like large-scale oppression and mass murder. These days, if a teenage student pencils a swastika on a school desk, something that used to be considered merely boorish, they call the police and it’s featured on the local TV news.
I went to school 50 years ago, no nun who taught me would have considered writing a swastika on a desk as merely boorish. It would have been treated much more harshly then you suggest, just as it should be now.

I understand. But given what’s taking place re: antisemitism throughout the rest of the world (and I don’t say this as an attempt to minimize what you’ve described), your own experiences here on CAF are fairly minimal when compared to the persecution Jews are receiving. You may have been unfairly labeled antisemitic. That in no way changes the reality that true antisemitism exists and is threatening Jews right now.

As I also said earlier, it’s called the longest hatred for a reason.
That is rather poetic, not to mention Western-centric. I would examine racism and hatred in older civilizations like India and China before believing that we’ve topped them.

That’s not to deny the long history of prejudice, hatred, and violence against Jews.

The real trouble is that antisemitism isn’t relegated to neo-Nazis and the like. It’s pretty mainstreamed at this point.

I’m not saying that there isn’t a place for desire to punish, anger, righteousness, etc., but it behooves us to watch all those emotions and desires, to proceed with reconciled hearts. It will be empathy that drives us.

Does that resonate with you?
Yes. As I wrote earlier today in another thread, “Where is the love?”

How can good people fight evil in world? I don’t think much will be accomplished by laws and penalties, nor by studying evil, nor by guilt tripping. We change the world by loving the sinner as a fellow human being, and working at the personal (not societal) level to bring out the best in him or her, following the example of Jesus.

And earlier in this thread:
With love in our heart, we may perceive the path that leads a person toward evil, and with God’s help we may [help them to] see another path that leads toward good.

Gov, I think you are too hard on yourself. You’re all right. Be at peace.

Anti-semitism is disgusting and it exists. I have felt it personally. I have had many relatives experience it. I have had friends experience it. I have had relatives die in massacres, holocaust. These are our brothers and sisters. Do not discount the experiences of the Jewish community. We must stop turning a blind eye to anti-semitism or it will return extremely violently once again. It is very real. As Christians we have a duty to protect our fellow brothers and sisters, we must defend our Jewish neighbors. They are our foundation, they are one with us
