It’ sin Catholic hymnals, but every priest I have worked for has forbid me to play because of its origin, along with The CHurch’s One Foundation, which was written to minimize the importance of the Popes.
They are both great hymns. I understand your priests’ concerns, but don’t agree.

I envy you having priests who care enough to be involved in the music at this level. Neither of these hymns would ever be heard in my parish, not because of the theology, but because they sound too old and “boring”.

It’s almost painful having to pick one, but after veering between several, I’ll go with…

O Come O Come Emmanuel, but in Latin…

Far too many to choose from, but here’s a few:
Christmas - O Holy Night
Lent - O Sacred Head Surrounded
Easter - Alleluia, Alleluia, Let the Holy Anthem Rise

Everyday Hymns:
Prayer of St. Francis
Ave Maria
Soul of My Savior
How Great Thou Art
Tantum Ergo
O Salutaris Hostia
Pangia Lingua

That’s a tough question.

Right now I’m in a “The Summons” mood:

I’m also a huge fan of “Gift of Finest Wheat”:

Christ Be Our Light is really beautiful…

I have so very many favorites from when I was in parish Music Ministry, that it’s hard for me to pick just one…

To name a few I like:

Come to the Water
The King Of Love My Shepard Is
Simple Gifts
Be Not Afraid

There are several:

Holy Holy Holy
Days of Elijah
Now is the Time to Worship
How Great Thou Art

I do like Protestant Hymns,

I grew up in a household that included/includes Protestant family members. My parents were Catholic converts, and some of my other family members converted to Catholicism too, but some remained Protestant.

Some of my favorite Protestant hymns are:

Great Is Thy Faithfulness
Holy, Holy, Holy
Shall We Gather At The River
Just A Closer Walk With Thee

I agree, so many it’s hard to choose. That Christ be our light linked above is perfection!

I do like this hymn, and I have always liked this version.

What a question for me!
I love so many hymns. And I love Gospel Music. When I was two or three years old my mother let me sit in front of the TV on Sunday Mornings early before church and I sang with Little Lucy and her father, and any other gospel group… But I narrowed down the number of favorite hymns for today…
One Bread, One Body and Here I Am, Lord… Love this post!

(Rock of Ages - all time fave Gospel Song!)

Amazing Grace has also been criticized for its lyrics being too Protestant. My childhood Church wouldn’t play that one, but several churches I attend now have it in the repertoire.

First time I have heard this, what a beautiful devotional hymn.

I love “How Great Thou Art” too.

“Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee” - wonderful words.

I think so too, I also really like Come to the Water and Be not afraid. My parish has some very talented singers.

I guess my answer to this question is there are too many to name. I really love most of them, so the easier answer would be which ones do I NOT like, lol

I really love Easter hymns: “Jesus Christ Is Risen Today” “Join in the Dance” “At the Lamb’s High Feast” Those are all some of my favorites.

How great thou art! How great thou art! How great thou art!
