Let me guess. You read Jonah Goldberg’s polemic about how liberals are fascists? Really, at least read a real history book if you’re going to make claims about it. Racial supremacism, nationaslist militarism, revanchism, hyper-colonialism, and almost every other tenet of Fascism, are not remotely left-wing. Historically, a few were right wing though.

So here it is, the Hitler was a vegetarian who liked animals, and the Nazis wanted “big government” (that makes them mroe in line with the American right, though, most of that “big government” was going to be in the defense area.)

Simply put, it is offensive to all the left-wingers who were shipped off to die in Dachau (the very first people the Nazis sought to eradicate, yous hould recall) to imply that they were of like mind with the people who slaughered them. And as a student of German history, I have read more books and articles on fascism than even Goldberg has (most of his sources, one can tell, he did not even read in their entirity; many of the ones he used tyo support his ‘argument’ criticized his book afterword because of his cherrypicking.)

The National Socialist German Worker’s party was a national rightist party, bob. Ever here the phrase ‘don’t judge a book by it’s cover’? They hated the communists most, the Social Democrats second most. The rightists mostl fell in line after '33, and the Catholic Centrists tried to put up a fight, some died with the Social Dems in Dachau, others joined the Nazis.

Edvard Benes of Czechoslovakia’s left wing was a "national socialist’ before the rise of the Nazis. He was an actual “national socialist.” HItler adopted the term to garner favor from the proletarians, but later assured his industrialist supporters that he was not actuallly a socialist. You should read about Gregor Strasser, the leader of the Nazi party’s original “left wing,” that is, genuine socialst compnent. He and the others were murdered on the night of long nives because of their ideological differences.

I didn’t say that. But only left wingers were sent to the gas chambers precisely because they were left wingers. Your utter lack of knowledge of the history of Germany or of Fascism would not bother me if you did not make outrageous claims about.

And maybe you don’t know this, but writing something over and over again does not make it true. And one book by a controversial pundit is not the word of God. I presume you will not take my advice and do some reading on German fascism though, but are content with having read your one book and closed your mind thereafter.

My husband and I are retired, both 72, live in …WASHINGTON STATE!!! He read about the need for fruit pickers and is thinking about going and doing it to make extra money. NOT ALL OF WASHINGTON STATE is in the rainy zone!!! Wenatchee is not in the rain zone. Yes, it rains sometimes, like most places, but not nearly like the Seattle area. Even so, I will bet that lots of people would go there if they thought they could live free for a year on handouts from the government. Wenatchee is a beautiful area, we just visited there this past week. Call the Wenatchee Chamber of Commerce. Obviously you have a computer, so google the phone numer. Even if you might get wet, go work and see how it feels. Then you will know that the “rich” folks, the ones who fill your local food banks for you “poor” folks got so darn rich…HARD WORK!!!

There will be enough young people who hate banks and bankers to grow their membership quite well. With the pre-existing anti-Israel sentiment of the college crowd already raising its head a few times here with Jews being shouted down, with talk of a New World Order and other conspiracy theories, how long will it before the roots of a cabal at the center of all this are ‘discovered’ ?

What communists and fascists share in common.among other things, is a contempt for capitalists.

…and a higher education system in the West that is dominated by Marxists, it should be added. It is through that kind of education system that the media internalized that compliance in the first place. It is uncritically believed as a result of that kind of education.
