Who are the protesters behind Occupy Wall Street–and what do they want?

Year-round or only seasonably?

You will do well to toss the racist remark! Change “white” to “black” or “chinese” or “japanese” and re-read it.
Seasonable, as apples do not grow year 'round. And I will change nothing about my post to suit ultra-sensitive readers. There might be a few “people of color” but I suspect most are white. Its not racist to point out a fact is it?

Wall Street will fix things by more trading of paper back and forth and by giving themselves million dollar bonuses for ruining the American economy. Of course, they can’t do this on their own. They will need hundreds of billions of dollars of taxpayer money to help them out.
The tea party movement were front and centre in protesting these kind of government stimulus packages that have led to trillions of dollars of debt, but in a more timely matter when this spending was being proposed.

Their solution however was for government to get out of the way, and let small business have enough room to create jobs, rather than what the OWS is propopsing whereas trillions of more dollars are spent on them to make things fair.

Thanks for being honest. Yes, the tea party is pro-corporate rule of our govt.

Whereas the OWS movent is the exact opposite in that they demand a govt of the people, for the people, by the people, subject to the laws of the land in an equal capacity, on a consistent basis.

The difference between the two won WW2.

  1. Then, there isn’t work year-round apple-picking. So, why bring that up?
  2. Ultra-sensitive? You can bet that black kids and asians would be pretty sensitive if I were to use certain terms to describe them.

The chance to make $150/day for a few months. Save up for something. Every little bit helps. Of course one would have to have the desire to actually work and not have everything paid for while you camp out and protest.

I believe its mostly spoiled white kids who are doing the protesting (with a few exceptions), just like in the 60’s against the Vietnam war. Just pointing out a fact.

You know they’re spoiled? For a fact? I doubt it.

BTW, There were more than white youth protesting against the war in Vietnam. And, not just youth. By war’s end, only the die-hard Republicans wanted to war to go on endlessly.

Your guess is wrong because many students are faced with the crushing debt of student loans. Further, it is not only students who are protesting these injustices. And these protests are worldwide and not restricted to the USA.
The last time I checked, Wall Street has nothing to do with the cost of tuition.

Government loans to get you through school are discretionary and can be paid back after you get a job. In cases of teachers and some other professions they are forgiven. Anyway, the cost has nothing to do with Wall Street.

I am not part of the 1% by any means, but I agree that these protesters are a joke. One who was interviewed said the he thought he should get a college education paid for by the rich. When asked why he didn’t think he should have to pay for his own college education he had no answer except, " I want a free college education."
It’s so convenient when an entire movement with real grievances can be characterized through the comments of one individual…

I remember the umbrage taken by Tea Party supporters when confronted with the extreme comments made by some individual members.

Well. I want a free car, and a house. These people don’t get it. They are spoiled, have no clue how the economy works - if they had spent the last few weeks looking for a job instead of sleeping in the streets - then they might be employed by now.
Only problem is, there are no jobs.

Of course first they’d have to shower.
I know you’re not a 1%'er, but you sure appear to be thinking like one.

Teaparty was against the bailouts. Obama and the left that backed him up, was not…

Even now Obama is not the target of the protesters.

The left was silent.
Even now Obama is not the target of the protesters.

People who are protesting on wall street are protesting a number of things. Some have to do with wall street, others do not. I hope that helps.

Most seem to be anarchists. At least the founders anyway. The unions and the Democratic Party are trying to coopt the “movement.” Not sure if they will succeed or not.

CNN reported that the Alliance for Global Justice, a far-left organization that backs anarchist demonstrations and anti-military protests as well as operating as a sponsor for the more notorious World Can’t Wait “resistance” group, has set itself up as a receiver for donations to the Occupy Movement. AGJ is constituted as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization

The chance to make $150/day for a few months.
Some of the students are in dire poverty and already are faced with the crushing debt of student loans.
Are you going to pay for their transportation cross country and for their lodging? Where will they get the money for that? And you can’t just say: Oh I heard that there is a job 3,000 miles away somewhere in the state of Washington. You have to be more specific and give a telephone number and address of the firm which is offering the job for $150 per day. Can you give us that information now so that those of us in dire poverty and in need can give this enterprise a call and arrange our schedules to make a little money which will help us out?

If they are full time students and poor, they don’t pay any money towards student loans yet, and chances are they are receiving grants (aka taxpayer funds from the government) not loans.

This whole “movement” is what we see every time the World Bank meets. Same sort of esoteric combination of people who don’t have anything better to do than protest with the addition that for some reason college kids are taking time away from studies to participate. (fad of the month I guess)

These protests are worldwide and not restricted to OWS. Why are they pepperspraying people in Washington DC who protest the use of drones to kill people?

It does help
It is a vague movement with a vague message and even vaguer goals.

The commonality is the vagueness of people who reject all labels, and therefore stand for everything and nothing at the same time.

Nietzche prophesied such people as the Last Man. Indeed Mark Steyn himself smells the decadence in a people who stand for nothing, have no goals, no purpose, no vision, no reason.

As I recall both bush jr and obama were pro-bailout, like bush and obama are pro-war,pro-freetrade and every other ill afflicting our country.

Both political parties are now pro-NWO and anti-American sovereignty under constitutional rule that primarily benefits and protects the ctizens of America.

It’s the stark difference between being an American citizen, and a NWO consumer being highlighted here by this OWS movement.

I’m surprised it took so long.

What you don’t recall is that the tea party and many conservatives were steamed at Bush for their unprecedented spending habits.

Oh.
It is the New World Order now that is being protested?
Ooookay.

Not really. Inthefirst place, when you have a loan it is on your mind that it is a crushing debt that you will have to pay back. Even if you can get a grant, there is a limit to the number of grants that you can get and after that you have to apply for a loan.

Let’s not be vague and let’s be specific and to the point. I am interested in the job of picking apples at $150 per day. Can you or Ishii please give me the address and phone number of the company which is offering this job ? Thanks a lot for your help in this.
