Who are the protesters behind Occupy Wall Street–and what do they want?

What you don’t recall is that the tea party and many conservatives were steamed at Bush for their unprecedented spending habits.

Oh.
It is the New World Order now that is being protested?
Ooookay.
Go ask an OWS protester if he is pro-freetrade with communist China?

Ask them if it’s cool for their govt to pit it’s lowest paid citizens labor against 35 cent an hour communist labor for sale in our own marketplace?

The tea partyand obama say yes. The OWS protesters say no.

Finally-a specific demand:

A proposed list of demands written by a protester and posted on occupywallst.org calls for free college education and “immediate across the board debt forgiveness for all.”

washingtonpost.com/blogs/campus-overload/post/at-occupy-wall-street-protests-student-loan-frustration/2011/10/10/gIQAV5CHaL_blog.html

In short, they are driven by greed.
It should be noted that the DNS for www.occupywallstreet.org was acquired in June of this year. This isn’t a spontaneous uprising. It has been planned for months.

These protests are worldwide and not restricted to OWS. Why are they pepperspraying people in Washington DC who protest the use of drones to kill people?
Not the same thing. All politics is local. Those in OWS are not protesting the same things as those in Egypt or Libya were. Those in Europe are protesting cuts in government benefits. I know the BBC and other media are trying to make this into a world-wide Workers Revolution, but it isn’t.

The people who own the domain are Canadian:

Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Adbusters is a not-for-profit, reader-supported, 120,000-circulation magazine concerned about the erosion of our physical and cultural environments by commercial forces. Our work has been embraced by organizations like Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace, has been featured in hundreds of alternative and mainstream newspapers, magazines, and television and radio shows around the world.

Adbusters offers incisive philosophical articles as well as activist commentary from around the world addressing issues ranging from genetically modified foods to media concentration. In addition, our annual social marketing campaigns like Buy Nothing Day and Digital Detox Week have made us an important activist networking group.

Ultimately, though, Adbusters is an ecological magazine, dedicated to examining the relationship between human beings and their physical and mental environment. We want a world in which the economy and ecology resonate in balance. We try to coax people from spectator to participant in this quest. We want folks to get mad about corporate disinformation, injustices in the global economy, and any industry that pollutes our physical or mental commons.

Adbusters Media Foundation is a not-for-profit, anti-consumerist, pro-environment[1] organization founded in 1989 by Kalle Lasn and Bill Schmalz in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The foundation describes itself as “a global network of artists, activists, writers, pranksters, students, educators and entrepreneurs who want to advance the new social activist movement of the information age.”[2]

The Adbusters Media Foundation publishes the reader-supported, advertising-free Adbusters, an activist magazine with an international circulation of 120,000[3] devoted to challenging consumerism. Notable past and present contributors to the magazine include Christopher Hedges, Matt Taibbi, Bill McKibben, Jim Munroe, Douglas Rushkoff, Jonathan Barnbrook, David Graeber and others.

Adbusters has launched numerous international campaigns, including Buy Nothing Day, TV Turnoff Week and Occupy Wall Street, and is known for their “subvertisements” that spoof popular advertisements.

In English, Adbusters has bi-monthly North American, Australian, and International editions of each issue. Adbusters’ sister organizations include Résistance à l’Aggression Publicitaire[4] and Casseurs de Pub[5] in France, Adbusters Norge in Norway, Adbusters Sverige in Sweden and Culture Jammers in Japan.[6][7]

No, it does not look like a spontanious movement at all.

Interesting sidebar on these folks:

Accusations of antisemitism
In March 2004, Adbusters was accused of antisemitism after running an article[30] that alleged many supporters of the Iraq War within the Bush Administration were Jewish. The article questioned why the political implications of this Jewish influence on U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East were not a subject of debate.[31]

In October 2010, Shopper’s Drug Mart pulled Adbusters off of its shelves after a photo montage[32] comparing the Gaza Strip to the Warsaw ghetto was featured in an article critiquing Israel’s embargo of Gaza.[33] Two frequently pro-Israel Canadian organizations, the Canadian Jewish Congress and Honest Reporting Canada, rallied to have the magazine blacklisted from bookstores, accusing Adbusters of trivializing the Holocaust and of antisemitism.[34][35][36] “The argument is obscene, and continues the disgusting tradition of some supporters of the Palestinian cause to turn Jews into Nazis and Palestinians into Jews. In so doing, these propagandists not only demonize Israelis (i.e., Jews), but minimize the murderous extent and intent of [Nazism’s] genocidal project.”[37] Adbusters responded to the charges in an op-ed printed in the National Post, arguing that the charge of antisemitism was being used to silence legitimate criticism of Israeli policies, namely “Israel’s occupation of Palestine.”[38] Adbusters also pointed out that the Canadian Jewish Congress has itself been the target of complaints by Jewish Canadians, including Naomi Klein, who signed an open letter declaring, “We are appalled by recent attempts of prominent Jewish organizations and leading Canadian politicians to silence protest against the State of Israel. We are alarmed by the escalation of fear tactics.”[39] Others*who?*] have pointed out that Adbusters was not the first to make the comparison. Some academics, including Norman Finkelstein, a Jewish anti-Zionist political scientist, have also compared Gaza to the Warsaw ghetto.

The pictures of the Warsaw ghetto were obtained from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum a year and a half before their use and were provided for a one-time use only.[35] When advised of the use, the museum sent Adbusters a cease and desist letter demanding that the photos be immediately removed from Adbusters’ website.[40] It was later discovered that the images used by Adbusters were in the public domain and/or not owned by the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. The confusion resulted from the fact that the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum has pictures on file that they do not own the copyright to, but merely provide access to.

Teaparty was against the bailouts. Obama , was not…
The left was silent.
Even now Obama is not the target of the protesters.
Exactly. It was TARP…proposed by Bush Sec Treas Paulson…that was the instigating event for the Tea Party and grew out of the remnants of the Ron Paul 2008 campaign, well, according to Juan Williams of FoxNews and formerly of NPR.

Some of the students are in dire poverty and already are faced with the crushing debt of student loans.
Are you going to pay for their transportation cross country and for their lodging? Where will they get the money for that? And you can’t just say: Oh I heard that there is a job 3,000 miles away somewhere in the state of Washington. You have to be more specific and give a telephone number and address of the firm which is offering the job for $150 per day. Can you give us that information now so that those of us in dire poverty and in need can give this enterprise a call and arrange our schedules to make a little money which will help us out?
There is this thing called the “internet”.

Google: jobs apple picking Washington State

Five or six people pile into a car and drive to Washington State in 60 hours non-stop, taking turns driving and sharing the cost of gasoline. Or putting it on a credit card.

Camp out when you get there.

Here is just one place to look:

wa.gov/esd/farmworkers/farm_jobs.htm

Probably, there are other internet places to look as well.

60 hours is 2 1/2 days. This thread started on October 5th. They could have been there and each could have been a thousand dollars ahead by now.

Let’s not be vague and let’s be specific and to the point. I am interested in the job of picking apples at $150 per day. Can you or Ishii please give me the address and phone number of the company which is offering this job ? Thanks a lot for your help in this.
Thank Monte for the info.
I got a job planting tree saplings up in Northern Canada once.
It was kind of an adventure, but I ended up back on the oil rigs soon enough.

I think it is important for people to acknowledge that the Tea Party movement grew out of Republican excesses probably even more than it grew out of opposition to Obama and the Democrats. Obama has only made that message absolutely critical as insane levels of spending increase, and Obamacare looms.

For people to say that the Tea party has some kind of corporatist agenda is misinformed at the least.

Heck, Jack Kerouac got across the country by hitching rides with other beatniks. And he picked fruit too.

For anyone looking for an opportunity, here is the link on the $150/day job:

Does the tea party support raising taxes on multimillionaires or not?

The OWS protesters sure do though!

OWS and the tea party have starkly different goals.

Only the tea party sheds tears at even the thought of raising rates on poor struggling millionaires and billionaires!

It’s a non-starter according to boehner, who’d rather see the country in anarchy than do away with the bush taxcuts so near and dear to tea party hearts and wallets!

I would do a google search on picking apples in washington. Go from there. Should be able to get some info. But why is it on me to do your search for you? I have to give you a tel. #, and address of the firm? I am happy to help if you’re serious though. (send me a message).

An angry Mayor Bloomberg blasted local politicians yesterday for strong-arming the owners of Zuccotti Park into reversing a decision to clear out encamped Wall Street protesters – and allowing the activists to claim a victory over the city.

“My understanding is Brookfield [Properties] got lots of calls from many elected officials threatening them and saying if you don’t stop this, we’ll make your life more difficult,” the mayor said on his weekly radio show, referring to the company that owns the plaza.

“If those elected officials had spent half as much time trying to promote the city to get jobs to come here, we would [be further along] towards answering the concerns of the protesters. I’m told they were inundated by lots of elected officials.”

Looks like OWS is gaining more support. The American Nazi Party told their members to support protests and to help fight judeo capitalist banksters. I’m glad to see them all coming out of the woodwork for the world to see.

Rocky Suhayda said "Many racialists are unsure about, and even against, these Occupy Wall Street protests all around the country. It has been pointed out to me that many protesters are non-white and/or “communists.” Well my answer to that is: “WHO CARES?!” They are against the same evil, corrupted, degenerate capitalist elitists that WE are against! Instead of screaming, “6 million more!” The pro-white movementites should be JOINING this Occupy movement and supporting it!"http://www.theblaze.com/stories/ame...rotests-and-fight-judeo-capitalist-banksters/

The Occupy World Protests looks like it’s off to a good start also. Violence In Rome As Wall St Protests Spread news.sky.com/home/world-news/article/16089544

Well, I guess that means they’re all Nazis then.

When you stand for nothing it is easy go be co- opted by any group that comes along
So we go from, 'some neo-nazis like OWS" to 'neo-nazis have co-opted the OWS movement." Quite a leap, don’t you think? If the most detestable person in the world liked me because of my impeccable haircut, does that mean I have been co-opted by them?

This is all vague, wishy washy and up in the air. You said that there is a company where people can make $150 per day and it turns out that you don’t know the address of the company, and you don’t even know their telephone number. So you want people to travel all across the country looking for a needle in a haystack or a pot of $150 at the end of a rainbow? By the time they find out where the place is, the rainbow will be gone. And who is going to pay for the hotel bills, meals and transportation? I tented out one time and the police came by,screaming outside the tent and threatening to arrest me for illegal tenting out.
And of course, you don’t mention that the state of Washington is one of the most rainy states in the USA. I don’t think you care if people get soaking wet tenting out in the rain and develop influenzsa. That’s all very nice while the fatcats on wall street get their one million dollar personal bonuses and their hundreds of billions of dollars of taxpayer money and don’t even know how many houses they own. I remember when McCain was asked howmany houses he had and according to his answer he had so many houses that he lost track of how many mansions he actually owned.
