Who would you vote for in America?

I’m not swayed
Clearly, it’s unfortunate that you are adamant in your position of not voting. Perhaps, my post emphasizing the importance of voting in a democratic society would encourage others who are on the fence about voting to go out and vote. Vote for what is right and vote your conscience…

One often does not appreciate the privilege and right of voting until one no longer has it. If you don’t vote/voice your opinions and belief, who will do it for you?? I speak from my own experience living in a society where voting was not allowed.

Yes, liberals are immensely scarred if Pence. I used to like him. He has irredeemably dirtyed himself by being a Trump sycophant IMO.

Likewise here. A few weeks after we arrived in the US, there was great cartoon in the Sunday paper. It contained 3 pictures.
I am an immigrant and a naturalized US citizen. Despite its many problems (being played out there right now), the US has a mechanism in place to deal with it (although it can be painfully slow). The US is a wonderful country and its people are among the kindest and most generous people on earth. I am proud and privilege to be among Americans and call the US my home. As I get older, I often get choked up whenever I hear the song: “America the Beautiful”.

I trust that through legislative means and through a re-awakening of collective and individual conscience in the US, police brutality and racism will be dealt with correctly and appropriately.

From Washington POST

By Marc Fisher
July 17, 2016

Trump’s approach to understanding complex issues and reaching decisions is not unique in the annals of the presidency. Historians who have studied presidential styles depict a divide between men such as President Obama or presidents Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Jimmy Carter and Richard Nixon, who were given to reading extensively ahead of important decisions, and presidents Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, who preferred to have issues presented to them in short memos or orally.

“We’ve had good presidents of both styles,” said David Greenberg, a presidency historian at Rutgers University. “There’s a kind of danger when intellectuals and journalists see these presidents who don’t read much and scorn them as being not so swift. There’s some political prejudice there on the part of liberals against these business types who have a different executive style.”

Again tafan2, half the truth is not the truth. President Trump may have said he hasn’t read any books about previous presidents YET (that was in 2016?)… or he may not sit and read fiction books at night but he reads much more than you give him credit… even Mark Fisher who made the headlines “Trump” says he doesn’t have time to read… says he does read… Just look at the rest of the story before you go reporting half truths… It is really unchristian and uncharitable to spread rumors about another person.

There have been ample reports about him not reading. Some who have been close to him speculate he has never read a book in his adult life. In 2016, when asked about it if he reads mucglh, he said " I never have. I am always busy doing a lot."

Not a rumor or half truth in the least. But if he read all the time, and everything else was the same, I still would not vote for the man. He is not fit for the office IMO.

Except that the USA is not democratic. We are a republic.

For approximately the eleventy one thousand and oneth time of saying this:-

Democrats are NOT on the Left

The US in practical terms has no Left on its political spectrum, it has the Centre-Right Democrats
I am not sure that i see how Bernie Sanders is Centre-Right? Doesn’t left mean favoring more government support in areas such as health and education?

I would NEVER vote for a Democrat and I think any true Catholic shouldn’t as they stand for everything not Catholic.

The other parties seem quite insignificant as well.
First of all, I don’t see anything wrong with voting for a third party. Multiparty systems work OK in other countries. Why do you need the tyranny of a two party system?
Secondly, i would not vote for someone like Nancy Pelosi or Joe Biden who favor legislation allowing late term abortion. In such a case, the child is already out of the womb, except for the umbilical cord and the doctor or nurse puts a knife to the head of the child thus murdering it. This is horrific murder, plain and simple and i don’t understand why Roman Catholics such as Pelosi or Biden favor legislation allowing this. There was a Democratic Presidential candidate who said she was OK with legislation allowing early term abortion, but not middle term or late term. I could probably live with voting for her provided I agreed with her other positions (which in this case I did). An abortion in the first few weeks is still wrong of course, but given the fact that so many people including Roman Catholics favor such, i don’t see how you could do much better at this time. And i did like her stand on several other issues.

You stated that you support anarchy
To be more precise, I’ve said over and over that I believe it to be utopian and it will never exist in my lifetime. I would support it if it did. But I would be happy if we just followed the Constitution, which will never happen under Democrats or Republicans.

According to friends and family who hate Trump, they would rather see Trump re-elected than see Pence as President.

They fear Pence would usher in a society that resembles the Handmaid’s Tale.
I don’t know the Handmaid’s Tale but I read where he is not loved by the ultra right because of a 2006 proposal he made for an amnesty for illegal immigrants to be granted citizenship. That example of Christian humanism makes him fundamentally appealing to moderate rights I would think.

I would vote for Hillary Clinton, because she is pro-Ukrainian. She is educated, beautiful lady and really charismatic leader.
I don’t find any charisma in a person who favors legislation allowing the murder of a child up to the cutting of the umbilical cord. Do you understand how gruesome and unfair late term abortion is?

Well, if you write in someone who is not running you join, and increase the number of voters who convey dissatisfaction with the available choices.

Whereas if you dont vote you are just a nonvoter, who for all anyone knows just prefers to stay at home and drink beer.
