In fact there can be and there are racist institutions and systems that, once set up, continue to operate with racist consequences even when the individuals working within that system are not themselves racist.
It could just be pervasive racism in an insitution.
Now just try to come up with similar instances with white victims, and keep count as you go.
That depends on where you get this information because the media just picks and chooses what it wants to report.

No, it is more like an criticizing an auto mechanic because he only cares about looking good to his boss but doesn’t care if your car breaks down in a way that he won’t be blamed. That could be Trump. (Again, I am not stating it as a fact but am correctly labeling it as a possibility that in my opinion is likely, especially considering the revelations in Mary Trump’s new book.)
I don’t care what Mary Trump thinks about anything. Let’s be honest here. Trump is not going to look good to those who hate him, no matter what. Everything he does is wrong and/or evil in their eyes. What I care about are the policies and how they have worked. I most definitely care about his prolife acitons and protection of conscience. Even with Covid, for which I do not blame him at all anymore than I blame Fauci even though he has been wrong many times, the economy has been working just fine for me and most others. Remarkably, even you have been wrong about Covid, as it now appears a new study upholds the use of hydrochloroquine.
I’m not going to bite on that one, for my point is not to convince others that I am right, but only to convince others that I have the right under our nations laws and under Church laws to hold the opinion I hold and to vote accordingly.
I think you would crack a tooth on it if you did. But it’s a bit excessive to claim Trump is a threat to our existence and then to claim you’re not trying to convince anyone you’re right.

Temporary reprieve only if Biden is elected. He’ll put them right back into the Obama cross hairs.

Explainer: The Supreme Court reaffirms hiring protections for religious employers

In a major victory for religious liberty, the Supreme Court ruled 7-2 in a case entitled Our Lady of Guadalupe School v. Morissey Beru that the ministerial exception applies to teachers employed by religious schools. The Court restated and expanded its holding in Hosanna-Tabor v. EEOC , holding that governments and the courts may not interfere with the hiring practices of religious organizations.

Justice Alito wrote the majority opinion and was joined by Chief Justice Roberts and Justices Thomas, Breyer, Kagan, Gorsuch, and Kavanaugh. Justice Thomas wrote a concurring opinion joined by Justice Gorsuch. Justice Sotomayor wrote a dissenting opinion joined by Justice Ginsberg.

Thankyou. I will point out, since this thread is about Trump, what he has done wrong with regards to the covid-19. Back in April and May, his daily press briefings were truly a joke, way too much focus on patting himself on the back and Pence doing the same. And his battles with the media were largely his own fault with these. There was certainly too much panic porn media at that time, but Trump could have made sure that his team was giving a consistent message and told us what was bad and what was good. Once we started to open up (in most places not too early, IMO), that is where the government, at all levels, completely dropped the ball, and they still are. The whole focus was simply on opening up, with unrealistic milestones, but lets open up anyways, and no stress on what we Americans needed to focus on once we were done with our shelter-in-place orders: the stress should have been non-stop: wear a mask, do not go anywhere if you are feeling the least bit sick, self-guarantine if you find out you have been exposed to someone who tested positive, wash your hands often, etc. We should have had these steps drilled into our heads non-stop by Trump, with public service announcements, etc. And this whould have all been balanced. We should have been told: don’t worry so much if you are outdoors (eg masks are likely not required, distancing can be reduced to 3 feet), go outdoors for christ sakes. There should have been focus on protecting the elderly all along.

We can still see this lack of leadership in action with regards to opening the schools. Trump is focusing on opening the schools, something I wholeheartedly agree with him. But the CDC has put out guidelines that make it almost pointless. Yet other countries have put out guidelines for opening schools that are achievable and likely safe. So we are fighting whether to open or not, and the only guidelines we have from our governmetn are absurd. This is where a good leader steps in and doesn’t just join the current ridiculous fray, but makes sure we are going to open in a sane and safe fashion that is actually doable by local school officials.

These failures are at many state levels also, but Trump has to take lots of the blame.

@tafan2 once they stopped doing daily briefings (in which Trump made too much of it about himself), and wound down the task force, it was as if they ‘declared’ the pandemic over - but the virus had other ideas, and it rages on. Now, to borrow a headline, it’s well and truly ‘his’ virus because he should have learned from the inaction and wishful thinking the first time around, but didn’t.

Even with Covid, for which I do not blame him at all anymore than I blame Fauci even though he has been wrong many times,
Fauci has provided the most expert and accurate information available. Trump has ignored much of it. I do blame Trump for not following the guidelines of his own Pandemic Response Team.
the economy has been working just fine for me and most others.
Prince Prospero said pretty much the same thing in Poe’s “Mask of Red Death”. I recommend that everyone go back and read that classic to see the parallels.
Remarkably, even you have been wrong about Covid, as it now appears a new study upholds the use of hydrochloroquine.
The “new study” is just another unreliable retrospective study with no control over who gets the treatment and who does not. As for any randomized studies, none have been done that I know of. So far HCQ is still an unknown. Despite what you may think, I really do hope that HCQ and something else, maybe zinc, maybe something else, will work. But so far,… nope.
But it’s a bit excessive to claim Trump is a threat to our existence and then to claim you’re not trying to convince anyone you’re right.
Oh, I am quite willing to try to convince people who are not ideologically bound to Trump.

The crisis of health care capacity has subsided drastically. Vents? So many made, so few used.

Death rates peaked in April and are considerably lower.

Zinc and hydroxy keeping hospitalizations low.

News flash - slowing the spread did just that. It means virus will be hanging around longer. We did that to ourselves.

It moved from one part of the country to another. But our rate of infection is skyrocketing, from what I understand. Luckily the death rate is about half what is was in April, probably because the average age of people getting infected is younger.

Indeed, this is a big country. The advantage these areas have that NYS did not have is now we know more and hopefully won’t infect our nursing homes.

Infections are up, death rates are low is a good thing as far as the mortality rate goes.

The way I saw it, the ridiculous leading and insinuating questions that the media focused on, blurred the messages that were being given. That is what made them a joke. As far as patting himself on the back, I saw it as a defense against the misinformation and spin the media was putting on everything. From day 1 they sought to spin any detail they could as “Trump’s fault.”

The only inconsistencies in messaging came from experts who were flip-flopping on recommendations. I’m not sure that is entirely unavoidable when dealing with an ever-changing situation and data coming in from all directions from other countries that was not consistent. I will grant you that perhaps Trump could have told his team not to give recommendations until they reached a consensus as to what they should be, but then he would have been lambasted for giving no guidance at all. I don’t think it was a win-win situation for him. I always felt informed as to what was bad and what was good but I also at the same time understood that this was a developing situation that could change hourly.

I agree about the elderly but it was neglect by certain governors who ordered nursing homes to accept Covid patients. We were told all along how dangerous this was for the elderly population. These governors knew this and yet made their decisions anyway.

As to the school situation, can Trump order the CDC as to the recommendations they make? Even if he could change the guidelines for schools to make it achievable and safe, he is being fought tooth-and-nail about opening at all from those who keep saying it’s too dangerous to open. Even if he could change the guidelines and schools open, he will get backlash for any spike in students getting Covid and blamed because the guidelines weren’t sufficient. He literally cannot win, no matter the decision.

More are being tested. 99% or so of infected have no symptoms or are mild and recover. In an infected area with aggressive testing of course you will see this. Testing in NYS was not at the rate it now is.

Right. Because the only thing that needed to be considered were the guidelines without taking into account the crashing of the economy, rising debt, kids missing out on school, businesses failing, increased depression and anxiety, medical tests and procedures delayed etc.

Is it skyrocketing? Because early on the only people tested were the ones showing up at the hospital. People with mild symptoms were not tested due to scarcity of test concerns and told to just stay home but to go to the hospital if they develop difficulty breathing. If we had been able to test at the levels then that we are now, would it be sky rocketing compared to a few months ago? My dad is having surgery on Thus. He has no symptoms but had to have a Covid test on Monday. If he is positive for antibodies, he will be one of those skyrocketing cases that people claim are so dire but it’s not necessarily so. Does that mean there aren’t spikes in current active cases? No but I remember quite clearly Faucci telling us that as we reopened we would see these fires erupt in various places and that it was to be expected. As they do, he recommend we handle it on a region by region basis, which is what we are doing.

Did you miss the latest study?

Hydroxy and Zpac - it was all over the news.

The doctors prescribing it are insistent that Zinc, Hydroxy and Zpac should be started early. This prevents hospitalizations and death. If you are already on a vent it is not as effective. These studies must take this into account. Even the Henry Ford study which showed hydroxy and Zpac were effective did not include zinc. And it was a hospital study.

I hope your father’s surgery goes well.

My understanding is that the percentage of positive results among those being tested is higher now than it was in earlier months, so yes, the overall rate of infection is going up. It isn’t just from more testing.

Also what about the filling up of hospitals to capacity in cities in Florida and Texas - that seems to indicate an epidemic that’s out of control.

Yes, I am familiar with the study. It was a hospital study. But it was a retrospective study. I read the study paper itself. Did you? The authors themselves cautioned against over-interpreting the data. In case you don’t know what a retrospective study is, it is a study that takes data gathered previously and then analyzes it. By contrast a controlled randomized study assigns treatments randomly. If you don’t assign treatment randomly, the outcome of the study is easily biased by the choices made by the doctors at the time they and their patients decided on the treatment. It is quite possible, for example, that really sick patients whose death was already imminent were not treated with HCQ as often as patients who appeared to have a better chance of survival. A randomized study avoids this problem. Get back with me when a randomized study is done.

A simple thing like mandating the wearing of masks in public would not have impacted the economy, but even that simple and effective measure is pooh-poohed by Trump.

Raising my hand for “right to try” if I contract Covid.
I am totally in favor of that. That is how we learn.
