Why won't non-Catholic Christians recite the Holy Rosary?

It’s not the beads that matter - the actual prayers the Anglicans pray on theirs are different to the RC ‘Hail Mary’, that’s for sure, and that just might be what makes the difference.
Thank you LilyM, you bring up a great point.

I was wondering, if there is anyone here (at CAF), who is not Catholic and prays the “Rosary”; and if these non-Catholics use the same Catholic formula…with the same prayers and reflecting on the same Mysteries… If the prayers recited are not the same and the purpose is different, then is not the Rosary…Is it?

I don’t think so…

Peace 🙂

I reckon Zooey (our friendly neighbourhood Methodist here) just might fit the bill. 👋 @ Zooey

As for it not being the Rosary … 🤷 We don’t own copyright on that word, I wouldn’t begrudge it to anyone who wants to use it.

Do remember the Rosary for a long time had a very fluid structure in terms of prayers AND intent:

-At first it was simply 150 Our Fathers for the 150 Psalms, and no mysteries
-Then it was broken up into groups of 10 Our Fathers and a Hail Mary.
-Then somehow it got reversed so it was 10 Hail Marys and an Our Father, still representing the Psalms, hence its old title of ‘Our Lady’s Psalter’
-Then the Mysteries were introduced, and probably the Creed, Glory Be and Hail Holy Queen were added, and the other introductory prayers added over time too.
-Now theres the Fatima prayer and a whole bunch of optional prayers you can say at the end.

My wife is a rosary maker and distributes the rosaries she makes throughout the world.

It may surprise many people but non-Catholics request and use the Rosary. Esspecially when they realize that the Rosary is the recitation and mediation of scripture right out of the Bible.

It may surprise you but our soldiers no matter what their faith request Soldier Rosaies esspecially before deployments.

The Rosary is one of the greatest evangelizing tools we have in the CATHOLIC Church today. For when a Protestant says you pray to the Blessed Mother I say

The Annunication
Mary accepts the angel Gabriel’s invitation to be the Mother of Jesus
Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are thou and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
The Visitation
Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth.

Holy Mary Mother of God
The Nativity (the Birth of Christ)
Mary gives birth to Jesus in Bethlehem

The Lords Prayer

Glory Be

Oh my Jesus

What Christian would deny prayer through, by, and the mediation of scripture.

When shown to others and explained we begin the evangelization process into an understanding of the Catholic Church and it’s wonderful scripture, teachings, and traditions.

Hello c659smith,

I agree and you made some great points here…I just wanted to add something for our other friends here; mediation of scripture” in the Rosary - is mediation on Jesus Christ, because the scripture prayed in the Rosary comes directly from the Gospels.

c659smith, God bless your wife for making Rosaries. I made them for a while, so I know that it is a time consuming act of love…it use to took me at least three hours to make one Rosary…and it is hard on the thumbs…😃

Great post…Peace 🙂

Good morning Jimmy. You are up early and busy. I had an experience with the Luminous Mysteries last summer. Since I had returned to our Catholic faith in 05 after 40 years away I began praying the Rosary on my morning runs. I did not know about the Luminous Mysteries until after one run last summer.
I went out by myself about 6am and it was a beautiful Thursday morning. I was on my 5th Hail Mary on the first decade and the word luminous came into my mind. While I continued praying throughout my run luminous evolved into the idea of light and reminded me of an experiment at the Univ of Geneva in 1997 when researchers studying quantum mechanics and the properties of light were able to observe the relationship between two photons that were emitted from an atom of calcium.
They separated these to light particles and did something to one of them and nothing to the other. However, what they observed is that both photons acted in the same manner and at the same time as though they both had been influenced by the same action. The researchers could find no connection between them.

This then brought me to a leap of logic to human relationships and how we could possibly affect one another by our thoughts because each thought is energy that is used and when energy is used it is given off in the form of light. When Jesus said He is the light of the world what layers of meaning is He revealing to us?
So whatever our dominating disposition is could it affect the frequency of light emitted from us and affect others in some unknown spiritual way.
John Paul II stated that every soul that rises above itself raises up the world and that each and every sin no matter how private, harms the entire human family along with the Church.
In quantum physics there is the reality that nothing exists in isolation.
Then the Eucharist and Confession were revealed in my Rosary Run as Our Lord breathing on His Apostles and giving them His Light and thus the ability to connect with Him in a way that nobody before or after has been blessed with and thus giving them His actual mystical presence in their bodies and souls. The only other person more connected with Jesus of course is Mary.
I must stop shortly. So I returned from my Rosary Run with all this and more and I looked up Luminous in the dictionary and it stated that it is transparent and a light produced without heat.
On the opposite page directly across was Lucifer which was defined as the bringer of light that is produced by friction and is heat.
I called my priest who is my spiritual adviser and he told me that my guardian angel was giving some gifts that Thursday because John Paul II established the Luminous Mysteries and he suggested that they should be prayed on Thursdays. There is so much more but I hate typing.
God Bless Jimmy.

Hey Buddy,

Keep typing, this was getting interesting. I am a “thinker” and I like discussions like this.

This is as beautiful a picture as I have seen in a long time. I’ll tell you a little something: The wee yeans, and the little old ladies with 😉 blue hair, are the real prayer warriors.
Do you know what? I figure every single one of us manages to put more blocks in the way of answered prayer that you can shake a stick at…But they never do that. They just open up their hearts & their voices, and the heavens open up, and God pours out blessings on His people.

When I was a little girl, I had a grandmother who would pray in such a way, that all kinds of people would call on the phone, & ask her to pray for them. When I wanted something prayed for, I would go climb into her lap, & whisper in her ear what I wanted, and OH! that woman would pray such a prayer!!!
And now I am alll grown up, and when I need an answer to prayer, I take out my rosary, & I start to whisper in Our Lady’s ear, and OH!! What a prayer as she raises before the Throne of God’s grace. :byzsoc: :byzsoc:

Hello Zooey,

Thank you, this was a beautiful response.

God bless you!

Now why would God recite the rosary? :hmmm:

Pax vobiscum
Good Fella
Don’t worry, paar has a bee in his bonnet about the Rosary for some reason, as if using beads to keep track of prayers isn’t done in Islam as well …

Maybe one should ask why didn’t Jesus teach us the Rosary when He was asked how to pray?

Luke 11:1-13(KJV)

1And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

2And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

3Give us day by day our daily bread.

4And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

5And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

6For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?

7And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.

8I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.

9And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

10For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

11If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

12Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

13If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Here is a link to the Anglican Rosary just in case some are not aware of it.

Hello emeraldcoast,

Still trying uh…still trying to disprove Catholicism are ya? 😃

Do you ever actually read other peoples posts here? Do you ever research any of the points made here, by Catholics to see if they are true or not?

Do you believe that there exists conflict in the Bible? Because, as a Catholic, I do not believe that there is any conflict in the Bible, when view and understood, in context.

The Rosary is a prayer of the Gospels, plain and simple. A handful of Bible verses are not and will not, ever sum-up the entirety of any of Christ’s teachings, on anything, including prayer.

Your verses here, do not exclude the Prayer of the Rosary. This is a good example of how “personal interpretation” of the Bible is a flawed belief.

The Bible, for example, does not say anything about embryonic stem cell research, yet, we as Christians know that it is wrong.

If I were not Catholic and I believed in the error, which is “personal interpretation”, I could say that, “The only prayer that Jesus said that we are to pray, is the Our Father” (the Lord’s Prayer) and nearly every Christian would disagree with this statement, because we as Christians know that that there are many different ways to pray.

There are two main beliefs in non-Catholic Christianity (summerized below) -
  1. If the Bible does not “say” that we can do something …then we cannot (Calvin)
  2. If the Bible does not “say” that we cannot do something …then we can. (Luther)
Both of these beliefs, coupled with “personal interpretation” and the lack of any proper guidance, leads to much confusion and to beliefs which are both, anti-biblical and anti-Christian.

In Christianity, there exists a balance and Jesus Christ and Christianity, should not be and cannot be “summed-up”, using a handful of Bible verses.

When we attempt to sum-up Christianity, by using a handful of Bible verses (taken out of context), we minimize Christ and His teachings and in some cases, reach opinions , which are incorrect and a lie and when we repeat these false opinions, we are repeating lies…

The Bible is a “Catholic Book’ and all if it, in one way or another, supports Catholicism.

It crazy to use a “Catholic Book” to attempt to discredit a Catholic belief.

Generally, I believe that most people here, who have a problem with reciting the Rosary, either have a problem with Catholicism and/or, do not understand the Prayer of the Rosary, which I have already explained in great detail here, is a Prayer of the Gospels.

I find it interesting that you haven’t specifically, disputed any of the points that I have made here, in the first few posts, using the Bible, which explains and supports the prayer of the Rosary.

All you have done here, is use “Protestant talking points”, “one-liners” and a handful of Bible verses, which do not prove your points, because they have all been taken and used, out of context.

That’s ok though, I understand, because I know that to “discredit” a Catholic belief, it is necessary for "Protestants’ to “personally interpret” the Bible and to use verses, which have been taken out of context.

If everyone interpreted the Bible correctly, there would exist one Christian denomination and we know that’s not the case.

I hope that you do not limit yourself and that you are honest and keep reading, studying, praying and learning and if you’re lucky, it will lead you to the truth, which is found in Catholicism.

If the Rosary brings someone closer to Christ…then what’s the problem?

Peace. 🙂

Hello emeraldcoast,

Jimmy,

You may have forgotten that I am the one that has children that attend a Roman Catholic school. Don’t you think that if I truly thought that the Catholic Church was all messed-up that I would send my children elsewhere? I came to this forum to learn more about the Catholic Church - not to be constantly given a noogie…😉

FYI-- I made a point during Lent to attend the weekly Stations of the Cross at the children’s school. I also attend pretty regularly the weekly school Mass( besides our church Sunday Mass and weekly Healing Mass). There was a post made here today or yesterday about how some of us come across on this forum. I am sorry if I come across as an anti-Catholic on this forum and have offended anyone.

Peace!
