Catholics here are adhering to Catholic teaching, in its entirety, which includes the Bible, and has the importance of orthodoxy or “right belief” behind it. Dogmatic, is something you seem to view as an insult. Guess what? Catholics have beliefs in, and adhere to, DOGMAS. You may as well replace the word “dogmatic” with “Catholic”, because that is what we are.
And if we go back in history, many people died because of it. The true teaching of christ was forgotten by doctrinairs and people were murdered for heresy. Is that who you are as a catholic?

I don’t think so. I see catholics not concerned with doctrine but concerned with helping the helpless and serving the poor regardless of religious faith. Their work is the spirit of mother theresa and not of the inquisition.

I think skinnyjay is right.

You know whyme, from what I have seen from your posts, especially the last few, I have come to a realization. The concepts you portray do not seem catholic, apostolic tradition, or LDS, restorative, but in fact reformative - in other words, protestant. All we need is love for our neighbor, God just wants us to love and that’s all, God doesn’t care what we believe as long as we spreading love, all churches are the same it’s just important to love, let Catholics be Catholic and Mormons be Mormon and whoever be whomever; all concepts deep in protestant theology. All concepts with apostolic roots that have been cut away leaving the tree damaged. Just my thoughts. I don’t have the time to go back and quote everything now but I might if it is difficult for most people to see. Adios.
If you consider just how much time people here debate the trinity with mormons, you will see that much time is wasted that could be spent in better ways…like doing good in the world. Action love is more important than bible bashing or mocking.

By the way, mother theresa showed her faith by doing small acts of love and not bible preaching to the hindus, muslims, protestants, mormons etc. Was she a protestant?

That is all true. But in the lds church almost everyone has a calling or a job to do who are young adult age. See the difference? Most people attending the catholic mass have nothing to do but attend Mass on Sunday or Saturday. Not to mention the fact that many callings in the lds church require weekly meetings during the week and weekly preparation.
Thank you Why Me. That is also true.

My point was simple, mormons do what they think they need to do to come close to god. Catholics do what they think they need to do to come close to god. And that is a wonderful thing to have in common…an interpretation to get close to god.

No, I don’t see that being Mormon and Catholic is like dual citizenship, for the simple fact that we believe in theologies of God that are very different. Scientologists say you can be a Scientologist and whatever religion you are. Sure, until you start hearing about the past lives.
That is like saying that one can’t have dual citizenship of two different countries because their taxes are different, and their traffic laws are different, and one is ruled by President X and the other by Prime Minister Y!

if so, how would you accomplish this?

I believe NO.
The answer is easy. It is a No.

The answer is also no as to can you be a Christian and a LDS at the sametime as the LDS Church is not part of the Christian faith becuase they do not believe some of the very basics of Christianity.

I will let it up for christ to decide if mormons are christians. I have this feeling that christ is actually very pleased with mormons. I don’t see why he shouldn’t be. If my daughters are praying to the father in his name and are attempting to live a chaste and obedient life, why would he be unhappy with my children? My children, so far, are very conscious of god in their lives and are mindful of his words.

But of course, it is not uncommon to find catholics defining who is a christian. Are luthererns christian or espiscopalians christian? I know that the luthuren church has a transvestite priest and the episcopalian church has many gay priests. Are the members of those churches christian?

Lutherians and Espicopalians are Christians. Christianity is determined by what one believes, not by how they act.

The LDS Church believes that God the Father has a physical body, the Jesus Christ is his biological Son, that everyone can attain Godhood and be God of their very own planet. There are other beliefs that they hold to that do not fit with what Christianity believes. Thats a fact. I am sorry that you disagree with that but it is the Truth and I will not back down from that.

I make no value judgement on the LDS Church or what they believe, I only state that their beliefs are different from Christianity.

I do believe though, that the Catholic Church has the fullness of the Faith and all other beliefs fall short of that. But that does not mean that they can not be of good to others. They just lack some of the Truth.

What was Mother Theresa doing with those hindus, muslims, etc? Was she trying to save them?

By your statements, it seems that you are preaching universalism, where it doesn’t matter what we believe about God, or Christ, but whether we love.

My point was simple, mormons do what they think they need to do to come close to god. Catholics do what they think they need to do to come close to god. And that is a wonderful thing to have in common…an interpretation to get close to god.
Clearly both can’t be right. Universalism is not Biblical, and neither the LDS Church nor the Catholic Church believes in it.

No, that’s not a good analogy. It’s more like saying one can’t have dual citizenship of two different countries because for citizenship in country X, you must believe that President X is the only president in the world with authority, and for country Y, you must believe that President Y is the only president in the world with authority. It’s a contradiction.

It’s laughable if you think it’s possible to believe at the same time that God the Father has a body of flesh and bones, and that God the Father does not have a body of flesh and bones.

Or that it’s possible to believe that only the LDS Church has priesthood authority, and that the Catholic Church has priesthood authority.

A fundamental difference between lutherans/episcopalians, and mormons, is that, despite whatever apostate or heretical doctrines they may believe, and whether they believe that one can ordain women or whatever, they believe in the same God that the rest of traditional Christianity believes. From the very definition of who the Father is according to the LDS and Catholic churches, it is clear that we’re not praying to the same Person.

I guess Christ is also pleased with Hindus, Muslims, Pagans, etc. That is the logical conclusion from your statements. It doesn’t matter about doctrinal differences about who God is. It only matters if we’re chaste and love. That is not why Christ came to the world and died for it.

It is too funny that why me is trying to portray Mormons as not caring about doctrine, and puts Catholics like Mother Theresa and Saint Therese as evidence of how we shouldn’t care about doctrine. The fundamental difference between Mother Theresa’s ministry to the poor (regardless of religion) and what we are talking about here, is that Mother Theresa was not talking about religion at all, and was not proselytizing or trying to save them. That was not her calling in life, and yet she strongly believed in the Truth of the Catholic Faith, and never preached a universalism that we see here.

Why me may cite the LDS Articles of Faith as saying that Mormons allow anyone to worship however they want to, and it’s ok, but that is completely false. We all know about the LDS missionaries, and the vast majority of those are on proselytizing missions. Why oh why would they go out into the world to proselytize if they didn’t believe that it was necessary to hear and partake in the “Restored Gospel”?

The other side of this “live and let live coin” is that, sure, you can go and follow your own religion right now, it’s ok. But when you die, we’ll just proxy baptize you and confirm you into the LDS Church! Somehow or the other, everyone will have to hear and hopefully accept the Restored Gospel, as you cannot believe whatever you want and have the highest and true salvation of the LDS gospel, which is exaltation, or becoming a god.

Well the same could be said about your Sunday school and priesthood/relief society meetings not to mention all man hours spent by your missionaries. Since all doctrine is useless and beliefs are meaningless you all should quit wasting time teaching your doctrines and get out and do like Mother Theresa.

.
They believe that gays can be priests. And they believe in the right to an abortion…and they believe in women priests…And the lutherans have a transvestaite priest. So, If I support all this I am still a christian?
