Pope Benedict XVI is the 265th. Pope, in an unbroken and consecutive line of Popes. Names and dates of the other 264 are avaiable.šŸ‘

This is outside the scope of the current sub-threads, but I wanted to add it anyway:

One of my callings is/was Scoutmaster and being the father of five boys, it was not unexpected. I really enjoyed it. Along the way, I would frequently meet other (adult) scouters and the majority of them were from church sponsored scout troops. Many different churches. But it was interesting what a homogeneous group we were when it came to church, family and community. The district commisioner for the county was also a Mormon guy, in the same ward as I and we worked together frequently. He had the same observation too, that he felt that he was really part of both those groups and that they were very similar.

I know scouting is not as big a part of the Catholic church as it for the LDS but in some ways I feel it defines us a similar people. And not just Catholics but for everyone who ā€œwalks humbly before the Lord.ā€

=Gottle of Geer;5599595]## Thanks, but, let me try this once more - I wrote:
  • That doesn’t explain why the CC appears to have one rule for Jewish converts to RCism, & an entirely different rule for Protestant converts to RCism. There seems to be no principle in the behaviour of the CC. So if the difference does rest on principle - what is the principle ?

If Catholics cannot double as Protestants, but must leave their Protestantism behind: why are Jews allowed to continue observing Jewish religious rites, instead of being required to leave those behind ? No matter how I turn this question around, from angle to angle, I can’t make any sense of why there is this difference. What principle is the basis for the difference ? I can’t see any 😦 I’m not surprised the OP is doubling as a Mormon - it looks as though he has every justification (in practice even though not in principle) for doing so. If there can be RC Jews (in the religious sense - ā€œJudaistā€ does not quite fit, & sounds pejorative anyway), why can there not be RC Mormons, or RC Anglicans, or RC Anything-else you-care-to-name ?

Friend.

You seem to missing THE KEY POINT which is ā€œChurch practiceā€ vrs. CCurch dogma and doctrine.

Dogma and Doctine cannot change and must be accepted. Practice can and does. Look at what ā€œVatican II didā€ to the EF Mass. Eastern and Western Orthodox Catholics have different practices, but hold to the same truths.

The CC cannot [not within Her authority] change doctrine and dogma. She can change and permit various practices so long as they do not conflict with D & D:thumbsup:

Your making far to much out of practice, but maybe you know this:shrug:

Love and prayers,

Pat

I have asked my sister about this and she has told me that she does not believe it is possible to be both. She asked the Bishop of her church and apparently he said that Catholicism and Mormonism weren’t compatible. She didn’t elaborate but I would think this would be seen by some of the doctrines which are taught in one but not in the other. Also Catholics do not recognise the Book of Mormon as a book of scripture which I think would be a bone of contention.

I claim no expertise in this. Just passing on what my sister said.šŸ™‚

Hi Sister,

The information is correct and it is good of you also to put this thread back on topic as it has wandered off.

No one can be Catholic and Mormon at the same time. For anyone to claim to be both is a claim to, essentially, be neither, for to TRULY be either one of these faiths is to unequivocally reject the other. This is just a fact. They are utterly incompatible in a number of areas.

Having said that, it is not likely that anyone truly IS trying to be both Mormon and Catholic and any claims to that effect are merely provocative.

I think this whole Catholic/Mormon thing a game being played for provocation. At least I hope so.

I would hate to think that some misguided person would receive the Eucharist while still confirming a testimony of the"truthfulness of the Book of Mormon". To do so would be to court damnation. You can’t reject the Truth by accepting the Book of Mormon, and then receive the Eucharist and not have any impact on your immortal soul.

Yet we have claims from at least one person to serving as a lector, receiving the Eucharist, AND STILL having a testimony of the"truthfulness of the Book of Mormon" and this from someone who clearly has no familiarity with the confessional apart from what has been seen in movies or read in books, pamphlets, online, etc. If this person is truly doing this, they are risking eternal damnation. But of course for anyone to say so is just being ā€œdogmaticā€. šŸ˜›

It has to be a game. It’s not a good game, but a game nevertheless.

Hey MelanieAnn, that reminds me of a great joke. With a point:

A man went to heaven and was being shown around by St. Peter. As they went from cloud to cloud they came to various doors which St. Peter would open. One showed a large group rolling on the floor and talking in tongues. ā€œOur Pentecostalsā€ he said…

Next was a serious ritual. ā€œOur Jewish persuasionā€ he replied.

Then another ritualistic service. ā€œOur Catholicsā€.

At the next cloud, he didn’t open the door but instead put his forefinger to his lips in the hush motion and they both tip toed past… Once past, the man asked what that was all about !?

ā€œThose are the Baptistsā€, he explained. ā€œThey think they are the only one’s hereā€.

You can change it around to include however you want. This version was from yuksrus.com/religion_baptist.html.

I haven’t heard that joke in ages. There is some truth to it don’t you think?

well apparently he would go to Mass, then go to LDS Sacrament Meeting and partake of the sacrament, since their was no Catholic church around… Couldn’t even answer how that’s allowable in Catholic teaching.

It seems that his only purpose here is to play up the persecution card. It usually focuses on him, and how everyone is so unCatholic here, and how it’s ā€œabusiveā€ to copy a post and not put comments (then he ran over to MADB and accused a Catholic over there of being me, and saying how I was his abuser) Go tell that to people that are actually abused. He also likes to claim that Catholics are so uncharitable here, and that we should go see how Christian Mormons are when they talk on message boards. A quick look at the threads he’s started here shows which side he’s really on.

Over on MADB, he is ā€œagainstā€ Nancy Pelosi and others misrepresenting Catholic teaching by making it seem like you can support abortion and it is okay. This seems very hypocritical, since he has insisted for years that it is okay to mix and match beliefs, partake in the ordinances of another religion (that the Church does not recognize as having valid sacraments, and vice versa), and still be Catholic. VERY telling. Just like how we don’t like Nancy Pelosi and other ā€œCatholicsā€ misrepresenting the position of Catholicism, making it seem like it’s okay to support abortion policies, I also don’t like when ā€œCatholicsā€ make it seem like it’s okay to pick and choose what you believe doctrinally, and that doctrine doesn’t matter, or, why me’s hilarious statement-ā€œdogma killsā€. :rotfl:

I knew that thread existed, I just couldn’t find it.

Thanks
I didn’t even know that you’ve been dealing with his antics for so long. He uses the same arguments and positions over and over-the persecution complex. Poor Mormons, Poor Mormonism, Poor Why Me, everyone’s out to get us, especially the Evil Catholics on this forum.

The way I’ve always heard the joke, it was when you were close to the Mormons that everyone whispered. 😃 But I can see why Mormons would make it the Baptists because the Baptists among those who claim that Mormons are not Christian AT ALL.

But back to the topic of the thread ~ I believe WhyMe is playing some sort of silly game, one that people have figured out, which makes it harder to play because someone or another will routinely call WhyMe on it every time.

I feel sorry for WhyMe if he/she (sorry, I don’t believe WhyMe is a ā€œheā€, but then I don’t believe ANYTHING WhyMe says) truly is attempting to practice both Mormonism and Catholicism at the same time because that is betraying both faiths and being faithful to neither. But I don’t believe WhyMe is doing that. I strongly suspect that WhyMe is just ā€œstirring the potā€ and getting a lot of attention in the process. The best suggestion anyone has made (was it you Religio?) was to ignore WhyMe. WhyMe clearly craves attention, but at the same time will never actually give a straight answer a straight question about going to church, talking to the pastor, discussing the firm ā€œtestimonyā€ about the Book of Mormon in the confessional, etc. This is clearly because WhyMe doesn’t do ANY of those things, including attending Mass.

All these claims of persecution, all these provocative statements, are merely bids for attention. The best thing to do would be for everyone to totally ignore all these patently false claims of some hybrid Mormon/Catholic practice. WhyMe may not like being ignored, may very well kick up a fuss and claim persecution or some such thing. To respond to such antics just extends the game. We Catholics need to stop playing this game with anyone who asserts they are both Mormon and Catholic. It’s a device being used in an attempt to undermine the Catholic faith.

This is not true. Over on the MAD board, I claimed that catholics like Nancy Pelosi should be excommunicated. I am on the record as stating that catholic public figures who support abortion and make it easier to get an abortion should be excommunicated. Please do not lie to my friends on this board. It is uncatholic. šŸ™‚

I must really annoy you Religio. Why I have no idea. I have even recommended two great catholic churches for you to visit while you decide on a church home. I really tried to be helpful to you. My only conclusion is that your doctrine mind misses the human element in claiming to be both catholic and mormon. I have explained myself many times and it had nothing to do with antics. You are such a judgemental person that perhaps you can’t just get your head around my reasoning.

I have never said poor mormons. I have only said, that catholics need to show love and mercy in their posts when having a dialogue with mormons. And this is what the catholic church teaches. To dialogue with people with love and mercy. Remember you just read it on another thread confirming my knowledge in such things.

You are still trying to bait posters…and you will catch some of them. But most…who don’t have a dog in this fight, understand where I am coming from…

First, I have never stirred anyone’s pot. I made a claim and that’s it. Whether or not people can accept it is not my problem. It is their problem. But here I go again for the upteenth time“…I think that my friend Religio must be enjoying this: šŸ™‚

**I AM NOT AN ACTIVE MORMON! I DO NOT WEAR TEMPLE GARMENTS! I CAN NOT GO TO THE TEMPLE BECAUSE I CAN NOT GET A TEMPLE RECOMMEND! I DO NOT PAY A MORMON TITHE! AND I DO NOT ATTEND ALL THE MEETINGS! I DO NOT HAVE ANY CALLINGS IN THE MORMON CHURCH! BUT I HAVE BEEN A MORMON FOR OVER 35 YEARS AND I WAS A CATHOLIC FOR THE FIRST 18 YEARS OF MY LIFE! NOW I ATTEND MASS AGAIN AND LEARNING ABOUT THE CATHOLIC FAITH ONCE MORE!

ANY MORE PROBLEMS? **

AND I DO HAVE CHILDREN WHO ARE MORMON AND THE MORMON FAITH IS TREATING THEM WELL!

You do know Melanie that judging people is wrong. Only god has the right to judge, not you, not Religio or any other judgemental catholic on this board. And that is just the way it is. Just take care of yourself and be peaceful and treat others with respect. Show love of god and love for humanity. Show mercy when mercy is required. And do your best to be a good catholic. But don’t judge others. šŸ™‚
