  1. The Church’s Pastors, in communion with the Successor of Peter, are close to the faithful in this effort; they guide and accompany them by their authoritative teaching, finding ever new ways of speaking with love and mercy not only to believers but to all people of good will. The Second Vatican Council remains an extraordinary witness of this attitude on the part of the Church which, as an “expert in humanity”,5 places herself at the service of every individual and of the whole world.6
From the Veritatis Splendour as named above by Religio. But unfortunately he overlooks that part of the veritatis. 🙂

Is it just me or is calling someone a judgmental person…a JUDGMENT? :rotfl:

Also, for the lurkers, Why Me isn’t just back to “being Catholic”. If one has read his previous posts, they would see that he’s okay with partaking of the Mormon bread and water in addition to the Catholic communion, and says that it was okay because there was no Catholic church around.

I mean, Catholics, really?

This post shows Why Me’s mindset:
It seems that a mormon missionary was singled out for being a mormon a beaten. It could be a hate crime because the attacker specifically referred to the young man as a mormon.

eastvalleytribune.com/story/113127

It is rather unfortunate to have a missionary beaten by bigots. But then again,** it is to be expected.** Mormonism has been getting some negative pubicity lately through a political candidate and the catholic shrine incident, not to mention the internet where mormonism is quite often trashed and harangued.

And yet, mormons are basically good people.
Poor Mormons, getting beaten and negative publicity, and yet they are still basically good people. Unlike the judgmental Catholics. LOL.

God will be my judge, not you. The Inquistion is over. I am okay with god. And for what it is worth, I do not go to sacrament every sunday, only when I am visiting my daughters. And yes, when mormons are in the news negatively, people can react against them. But then again, that can happen to any group that is in the minority. I see nothing wrong with what I posted.

Religio,

You are definitely not a church pastor. And basically that is where you make a mistake. A church pastor would never judge someone over the internet. There would be mercy and love in their dialogue mixed with understanding. If church pastors were like you, we would all be in trouble. You really need to give it up. Show mercy and love with your doctrine learning and you will be a great voice for the catholic church. And when you learn to treat the people whom you dislike with respect, you wll become a great example in the tradition of Saint Therese, the Little Flower.

But now I have had enough of this discussion. It is too contentious and unchristlike on both our parts. 🙂

Are you a Yankee fan now that you are a New Yorker?

Judgment from Why Me:
You are such a judgemental person that perhaps you can’t just get your head around my reasoning

Only when he’s visiting with his daughters does he partake of the Mormon Sacrament. And he sees nothing wrong with breaking the rules of “his Church”.

And he has encouraged Catholics here to take the bread and water at LDS sacrament meetings because there’s nothing wrong with it according to him. Then he gets all wordy about a supposed priest that pushed him to drink alcohol:shrug:

Why would I encourage catholics to take the bread and water at LDS sacrament meetings? They don’t have my background. I would not encourage catholics to take lds bread and water. But in the mormon church, there would be nothing wrong with it as long as they felt that they were worthy. But I would not encourage them to do something that they consider to be wrong.

The priest made a suggestion that we should have a beer together. Nothing wrong with that except that I don’t drink. 🙂 He didn’t say that we should go out and get drunk.

If god sends me to hell for that, so be it…I will be in hell with my mormon daughters. You can have your heaven, if that is what it means to be in heaven.

Horrible. No Catholics should partake of the sacraments of any non-apostolic community. It goes down to not only what Catholics believe sacraments are, but what the LDS Church believes their ordinances are. For Catholics, first and foremost, the true understanding of the Eucharist is that it is literally the body and blood of Christ. Belief in the Real Presence is fundamental to understanding the Biblical passages related to the Eucharist according to our Church. Also, it symbolizes a unity of faith as a community. Thus we do not allow those not in communion with us to partake of the sacraments. For LDS, the Sacrament is really to be reserved for LDS Church members, since it renews their baptismal covenants. It is also given to children preparatory to receiving baptism. Therefore, no Catholic should partake in the sacraments/ordinances of a non-apostolic Church, under any circumstances. The Church makes no exception to this, so his exceptions (well, when I go to church with my daughters… that has nothing to do with partaking in their ordinances. Ask any of the hundreds/thousands of other mixed families) are invented by himself, and not the Catholic Church.

Also, I like how he said that he’ll “be in Hell with his mormon daughters”, as if someone said anything about his daughters going to Hell. This is what he does.

I have seen people who are not mormon take the mormon sacrament. There were no problems with these people taking the bread and water, if they felt worthy to do so. When I was investigating the lds, I also took their sacrament, no problem.

For some doctrinaire catholics, my daughters will be hell because they are mormon. And I don’t remember you contradicting these posters. I have been told this on this forum that mormons will be in hell. So, be it. If that is what hell is reserved for. You then can have your heaven filled with people who know their doctrine.

Now of course, I don’t see heaven that way at all. We are judged by our works and by our faith in Christ. Mormons, catholics, protestants, will all be together. Muslims, hindus, and all others who attempt to live by god’s law will be our heavenly neighbors. I certainly don’t see god giving a doctrine test to enter heaven.

I have not encouraged catholics to take the bread and water in lds sacrament meetings. Our friend is just a wee bit misrepresenting me, as usual.

I do what I do, and you do what you do. I have two children that love me and I have a wonderful relationship with them. I must be doing something right. Do you have any children?

Also, my mormon daughter just bought me a rosary and she is on her mission. Isn’t that wonderful. When I am with my children we create a wonderful domestic church. 🙂

I didn’t even know that you’ve been dealing with his antics for so long. He uses the same arguments and positions over and over-the persecution complex. Poor Mormons, Poor Mormonism, Poor Why Me, everyone’s out to get us, especially the Evil Catholics on this forum.
Yep, Kind of a boy who cried wolf thing going on.

I need to dig up the thread where he defended the missionaries that desecrated a Catholic shrine with basically…oh they were young.

Nope
Some young men are immature and these were immature young men. Also, life is a learning experience and these young men will now learn a valuable lesson. As those parents who have children in this age group know full well, the idiot behavior as shown in the photos are rather common, in the sense that the behavior was not well thought out.
Here is a link to the thread in question.

Yep, a glance through that thread shows his true colors in light of the threads he’s started on this forum. When there’s a Mormon issue in the news, he posts about it and claims that Mormons are used to being persecuted, and how Mormons are still nice people even though people are horrible to them, especially the judgmental Catholics on this board. Now, when a story is posted about Mormon missionaries vandalizing a Catholic shrine, he says “they were in the process of maturing” and they were “immature”. There was no fervent defensive of Catholicism like when he fervently defends Mormonism by posting about news events.

And of course the Catholic Church has not and is still not being persecuted, yet we don’t see his posts about that.

if so, how would you accomplish this?

I believe NO.

That may well in practice be possible - despite the difficulties in principle.

If a Jew can in practice follow Judaism and Catholicism - why can’t a Mormon be a Mormon and a Catholic in practice ? It seems rather inconsistent of the CC to allow one form of syncretism, but not another.

Whether this kind of syncretism, or any other, is a good thing, is another matter. Personally, I think the CC is committing suicide by not objecting to it - but if it wants to allow syncretism, what can the Catholic laity do about it 🤷 ?

Have you not already posted the same thing before?

Catholicism extends out from Judaism, and the Catholic Church acknowledges that we worship the same God. In contrast, the Catholic Church does not believe that Catholics and LDS worship the same God, and rightly so (however, I fully believe that Mormons follow Christ and worship Him, to their understanding). LDS believe that God the Father has a body of flesh and bones. They believe that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one in purpose and will, and not substance. They believe that God the Father is married to the Heavenly Mother. Try looking up the relationship between the Catholic Church and Judaism in the Catechism and other documents.

And it is quite interesting that one would want to be Catholic and follow a religion whose foundation is based on the loss of priesthood authority on earth, and that only it, the LDS Church, has priesthood authority. There is thus no point to Catholic sacraments, since they are done without valid priesthood authority.

Reading an old thread on the 30th anniversary of the end of the LDS priesthood ban, and happened upon this gem:
Also, mormons by and large are not racist. However, many catholics are and were racist in their attitudes toward black americans. I know because as a young catholic boy I heard a lot of racial slurs against blacks in my neighborhood and catholics were among the name throwers.
:rotfl::bowdown:

Always the Catholics in the wrong.
