I very much want to quit the catholic church and become an
Assembly of God member. Am i doomed for hell?

I don’t fit in with the CC, there is no enthusiasm there.
There have been dumber and more mis-informed reasons for people leaving the catholic church. Enthusiasm is pretty dumb…but, it’s not the dumbest.

Be that as it may,

There is what I like to call “a cup of tea” for everyone in the catholic church. You may or may not be familiar with movements within the catholic church such as:

Pope John XXIII which tends to be “Father centered”

Cursillo which tends to be “Jesus centered”

Charismatic Renewal which tends to be “Spirit centered”

Legion of Mary (pretty clear huh?)

Opus Dei founded by St. Jose Maria Escrivá

Knights of Columbus and others.

Your particular symptom seems to hover on the question of enthusiasm…Have you ever heard of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal?

Before you go and damn yourself to hell, you should check it out. 🙂

You won’t go to hell…you might (when the time comes) spend a lot of [time] in Purgatory!
But I don’t think that God will allow you to go to hell for leaving the One, True, Catholic and Apostolic church that He intended to exist after His ascension into heaven and of which He left Peter as its first Pope…263 popes later to Pope Benedict XVI.

So, snap out of it! grab your Rosary and your Brown Scapular and continue to soldier on.

How do they know they have the assurance? Are they sure that once they believed they will not longer sin? And if they are not sure that they will no longer sin so therefore can still sin, isn’t the wages of sin death?

What if a believer dies unrepenting of his/her sins?

I have given this scenario before: a believer who is overtaken by lust, commits rape and was shot while in the act of rape. What happens to him?
He/she is going to hell

**And what **was that?
Fascinating how you can read minds . . .
Elvis you equate truth with the Catholic Church, so when you say God will lead you to truth you mean God will lead you to the Catholic Church.

Tell me Im wrong:rolleyes:

Ummm . . . GOD equates the truth with the Catholic Church (1 Tim. 3:15, Acts 9:4-5), so you’re half right.

It can’t be bad theology if it’s the God-breathed truth of the Scriptures now, CAN it?
If it’s good enough for God - well, then, it’s good enough for me and should be good enough for you . . .

Elvis is right because the Catholic Church is Christ’s Body. If The Church is Christ’s Body and Christ is the Head of the Church, and Christ is the Truth, then the Truth is to be found in the Catholic Church. This is a simple matter of Christ WILLING this to be so,

Christ promised that the gates of hell will not prevail against it. Christ promised that He will send the Holy Spirit to guide it into all truth. If we believe that Christ is indeed God then we must believe that He will keep His promise.

Are we saying that all other denominations are completely deprived of the truth? Well no.

But whatever truth these other denomninations apprehend came from the truth that the Catholic Church proclaimed. It gets watered down the further the separation from the Church.

This is why the closer other denominations doctrines are to the Catholic Churches doctrine, the closer they are to the truth.

Who can determine this other than God?

I’ve been to a couple of pentecostal churches but the services literally go for hours (about 2 hours) with way too much music and yippidee-doo-daa which didn’t suit my laid back personality at all.

2 hours is short I much prefer the longer services.

Now your theology is as bad as Elvis’ 😉

Christs body is His Church which is made up of all who believe in Him.
What are the gates of hell?
Christ is the truth and the light. Christ is the very presence of Jesus in and on and around His people. For centuries Roman Catholics have attempted to deny this truth to others that will not succumb to thier enslavement.

If you want to leave the RC then don’t be concerned with anything that’s related to it .

So I was right all along. Are you going to apologize. 😃
**Like I said - you were half-right. You said that I equated the Church with the truth. **I showed you that God ALSO equates the Church with the truth.
This is an argument that most Protestants are unable to reconcile.

Sorry, pal - the bad theology spews from your lips - not mine.

You (like MOST Protestants) claim that the Church is made up of ALL who believe in Jesus.

**Can you please show me WHERE the Scriptures teach this? **
Can you show me where the Early Church taught this?

While you’re at it, can you tell me what "believe" means to you and where you find your definition from the Bible itself - because this is KEY.

I eagerly await your response . . .

PS - Before you go around making the ignorant claim that the Catholic Church has enslaved ANYBODY by denying truth - make sure you can back that statement up with some facts.

Nope, that is your definition. But that is not what the Bible says. From the beginning there was only One Church, the Catholic Church, and those who are being saved are being incorporated into her by baptism. If you have been baptized in the Trinitarian way then you are a member of the Catholic Church, which is Christ’s body. Otherwise, not.

The protestant redefined the church as the body of believers. That’s not what the early Christians meant by it. That is why there is such a thing ex-communication. Those who had erroneous beliefs (heretics) were not considered part of the Body of Christ even though they may “believe” in Christ.
What are the gates of hell?
Hell is the devil’s abode, the devil is the father of lies… therefore…
Christ is the truth and the light. Christ is the very presence of Jesus in and on and around His people.
HUh!!

Rubbish. The Catholic Church has never denied THE truth (which is that Christ is the Truth) but your formulation above needs a lot to be desired so there is no need to deny a truth in that instance because there isn’t one.

Like I said - you were half-right. You said that I equated the Church with the truth. I showed you that God ALSO equates the Church with the truth.

No I was entirely right. Where your claim is false is the denial of all true believers as the Body of Christ and as members of Christs Church. That is something you nor manyCatholics are able to reconcile.

There was the Church at Antioch, The Church at Jerusalem, The Church at Alexandreia, The Church at Rome. Then Rome threw the others out proclaiming itself supreme. Rome does a lot of proclaiming and exalting itself as the One True Church, rubbish.
The Curch which is the congregation of God is defined by its beliefs.
The devil is the father of lies who has coe to rob, kill and destroy. Christ came to destroy the works of the devil. The Church is to carryout that ministry and the gates of hell cannot keep her out nor
keep those still in bondage in.
The Catholic Church has always, always bullied those who question the untruth it propogates.

There was the Church at Antioch, The Church at Jerusalem, The Church at Alexandreia, The Church at Rome.
And these all belonged to the same Catholic and Apostolic Church. It would be like saying the Church in America, in England, Malaysia, etc, etc,. They all belong to the Catholic Church.
Then Rome threw the others out proclaiming itself supreme. Rome does a lot of proclaiming and exalting itself as the One True Church, rubbish.
Not rubbish but fact.

Time line of the Catholic Church to 1 – 500 BC

The Curch which is the congregation of God is defined by its beliefs.
But how can we be all the same church when we have different beliefs?
If the Church is truly the Body of believers then we would all believe the same thing, but we don’t and that is a fact.
The devil is the father of lies who has coe to rob, kill and destroy. Christ came to destroy the works of the devil. The Church is to carryout that ministry and the gates of hell cannot keep her out nor
keep those still in bondage in.
And the only time the gates of hell will have prevailed is if the Church taugh an untruth. But she has been prevented from doing that because Christ sent the Holy Spirit to lead her into all truth.

So who has taught untruths? Protestant churches in varying ways. They allowed, contraception, homosexual marriage, divorce, etc. Some beliefs that the Church has held they have decided to throw out. I am not saying that Luther did not have cause for grief. But you do not throw the baby with the baby water. 🙂
The Catholic Church has always, always bullied those who question the untruth it propogates.
Well there is no need for bullying, She merely proclaims what is and always TRUE. Protestants on the other hand have taught lies by allowing doctrines that are outright lies and not in conformity with Christ’s teaching. This is evidenced by the ever multiplying number of denominations. For one thing, how did you end from being Pentecostal to being Non-denom. That by itself proves my point.

No I was entirely right. Where your claim is false is the denial of all true believers as the Body of Christ and as members of Christs Church. That is something you nor manyCatholics are able to reconcile.
WRONG.
Remember that Scripture itself says that Jesus established only ONE Church (Matt. 16:15-19) and it certainly wasn’t yours.
He prayed for the unity of that Church that they remain ONE - as he and the Father are ONE (John 17).

Also - please show me where the Scriptures or teachings of the Early Church because MY Bible says:
Matt. 7:21
"Not everyone
who says to me, “Lord, Lord” shall enter the kingdom of heaven."

If you belong to any other Church - you ain’t part of HIS Church . . .

These were merely PLACES where the Church existed - NOT "different" Churches.
Can you tell me what these beliefs are that “define the Church”?
