Someone, possibly you, suggested the men should be blindfolded. But do note that this tradition originates from a time when KSA was not a rich oil producer, but a country of nomadic desert people. Yes, under those harsh conditions it made sense to not blindfold the men. Even now the men have to function, and while Pakistanis and Bangladeshis do the most menial and labour intensive of tasks in KSA, the Saudis also work for a living. I should also add that there are Saudis who still live in a nomadic fashion and in pretty primitive conditions. These people have to function somehow, blindfolding them would be pretty silly wouldn’t it? Now I know the blindfold thing is a joke, but I wanted to interject that life in KSA before the oil was pretty tough.
**The gangs of thugs you mention are usually reasonably mannered cops. I don’t think they’re gangs of thugs in the sense many of us understand gangs of thugs. I know people, including women who worked in KSA and they had no issues with this, they just had to cover their head and hair with a scarf like Abaya and only go outside their compound with a male escort. **
Did it? Did I suggest it or are you putting words in my mouth? Hmmm?
