???
WHAT?
That is the single most confusing thing I have heard on this board in a year. You get more eternal life, you either have eternal life at some point or you do not??
So do you have to have the Eucharist to get eternal life?
Yes or No please.
Where do you get that Grace=eternal life as something that can build up in your salvation account?

I need some verses that use eternal life.
I need some verses that mean life eternal please.
Brian, back off just a minute. When you read “Eternal Life”, don’t read it as “you’re going to heaven no matter what”. It means you are getting Jesus’ grace. This Grace, should you keep it by being a good a loyal Christian, you know, loving God and your neighbors and all that, will get you to heaven.

Can you store up Graces? Yes, of course you can! Why not.

Can you lose these Graces? Of course, by turning to mortal sin. God can NOT exist in our souls if we reject Him and return to the sins of this world.

So you DO think you get eternal life from the Eucharist? I did not know that. Is that in the Catechism. But you would think you would have to be worthy or every Tom, Dick, and Harry Catholic would be saved because of eating the Eucharist?
Eternal Life comes from Jesus. Since in the Catholic Church. When we received the Lord in Mass, we received Jesus Christ. Does not Jesus give eternal life?

You answer this question, your answer is given.

That’s your job, please prove the eucharist.
Please read any of my last 10 posts.

I’m asking you to define “Eternal Life” so I know that we are talking about the same thing.

To me, Eternal Life is God’s Grace. We can keep it and go to heaven, or we can lose it and go to hell.

Of course, the irony is, the only way to keep God’s Graces is by sharing them with others!!! If you keep it to yourself, you lose it!!!

eternal life = (not according to Wikipedia) living in heaven eternally.

So Jesus meant “eternal life” wasn’t actually “eternal life” but getting grace. Does that mean we should tell Jesus he’s wrong about eternal life?

Again, Paul in Corinthians helped to clarify that you must be in a State of Grace to receive it worthily.

If you receive it while in a sinful state, you are eating and drinking condemnation upon your soul (paraphrasing)

You have yet to prove that the eucharist is Jesus. You have not provided any evidence for such a belief.

OK, now that we understand each other, Jesus says that you must receive “Eternal Life” (my definition) in order to maintain “Eternal Life” (your definition).

Clear now?🙂

Last I checked Wikipedia was not the Word of God. Please prove the eucharist with the Word of God.
I said Eucharist derives from the Greek word Εὐχαριστία eucharistia. In thanksgiving, in the Mass, we thank the Lord.

The Bread of the Lord has many names. It is commonly referred to as the Blessed Sacrament, Holy Communion, Eucharist, the Holy of Holies.

John 6:51-54 states the following

I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give, is my flesh, for the life of the world. The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying: How can this man give us his flesh to eat? Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you.

Great, now let’s get back to the topic. Prove that the eucharist is Jesus. Thanks.

Oh yeah, we also have history. As Manny pointed out, through Wikipedia, the Catholic Church has ALWAYS taught that Jesus exists in the Eucharist. Can you show me the earliest time that the Church denied it? Wouldn’t there have been someone to correct our friend Ignatius back in 110AD if the church didn’t believe this?

Matthew, Mark, and Luke (Last Supper scenes)
John (chapter 6).
Paul in 1st Corinthians
And because of the above statements, I’m now supposed to believe that the eucharist is Jesus?

So I can say… No it isn’t because of the Word of God.

Now, it’s your turn to provide the proof.

You do realize what an incredible spin this seems like Nothworthy. I understand you are used to this line of thinking.

So going literal, your guys view, Jesus meant;
eating the blood and flesh of Christ gives you grace and if you get enough grace, ie your stored grace is greater than mortal sins, , gets you eternal life?

But that does not prove that the eucharist is Jesus. How do I know that you’re not just calling the eucharist… Jesus?

Re-post because this point was overlooked in all the traffic.
When Jesus uses “Trago” to define “eating of His flesh” He would have been saying “You must hate and revile me…” if these words were to be taken symbollically.

Jesus means what he said that we must eat the flesh and blood of the son of man. Those are the words that Christ himself have said time and time again. Not only must we eat his flesh and drink his blood, we must be obedient to everything that he has taught us, believe in Jesus, repent and be baptized, and received him worthily in the Mass. Unfortunately not all Protestants believe in the real presence.

The belief is not united amongst Protestant doctrines.
