For herd immunity it takes 60 to75 percent of the population to be vaccinated.

Population 328 Million
60% of that is 196 Million.
Pfizer vaccine requires 2 doses.
That is 392 doses.
Doses available by the end of the year 30 to 40 million.

It is being made in Michigan. but UK has approved it first. Does Pfizer sell to the highest bidder? Or does Pfizer keep it in the United States?

Pfizer’s chief executive has said that it could have 30 to 40 million doses of the vaccine before the end of the year, enough for 15 to 20 million people to get an initial shot and a booster three weeks later.

CDC just voted on who is recommended to get the vaccine first.
1st ) Health care workers
2nd) Long-term care facility residents

In another thread, he was clear that a vaccine won’t help.
Naturally this is false. It is a partial truth.

Here is what I REALLY said for those interested . . . .
Blood-based antibody (IgM and later IgG) may help with endorgan damage,
but will not protect you against getting coronavirus in the first place because the respiratory epithelium is being attacked by coronavirus via the airway.
Bold mine added.

Which vaccine? What makes you think a vaccine eliminates the “need” for mitigation?
Then read the next ten or so posts between billsherman and myself (you will have to skip forward a bit on some of them to get just the discussion between billsherman and I).

Last night billsherman admitted . . .
I don’t understand the point you are trying to make.
It is my firm belief he still doesn’t understand it.

Go read the exchange and you can draw your own conclusions.

Nope. I have no idea what point you are trying to make.

I think, though, that you are arguing that vaccines won’t mitigate COVID. Not sure, though.

No. Vaccines DO “mitigate”.

But then you are still dealing with mere mitigation.

So WHY in PRINCIPLE, stop the Government mandates with mere mitigation?

And you still have not answered that!

@cathoholic. Would you be kind enough to explain what your ideas for mitigation are? I believe I’ve read all your posts but, honestly, I don’t recall what your recommendations were. I would really like to hear them…I may even agree! For example…what healthy people should do? What steps we should be taking that we aren’t?

Thanks in advance…

If you could give the post number and thread location if not in this one, that would be fine, too. When you have time…

In another thread, he was clear that a vaccine won’t help.

I’m fairly sure he is just arguing that COVID isn’t really a problem. People all have to die sometime, right? All other pandemics eventually burned themselves out, right?

I got mine, screw everyone else.
This is a mean-spirited comment and adds nothing to the conversation. Cathoholic is not about screwing people.

Wow StudentMI … I can find everyone of those Countries on a map … and I dont believe that all Americans are as stupid as you seem to think …

Motherwit:
You keep saying that as if it’s true. Finland, Denmark, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan. You can ‘non exist’ all those countries till the cows come home but they aren’t going to just disappear.
Then your still not understanding mitigation.

All you will have to do is follow these places out further in time.
We have pandemic precedents none of which has ever showed that a disease can’t be effectively treated with vaccines or cures. You are assuming that this disease is the first ever to be permanently untreatable. Why should we believe you over the scientific community?

Let me repeat that 2 people are dying per minute from Covid.

Well go back and re-read them.

I fully admit that mitigation efforts “slow” the spread. I have never denied that (but at what cost? Is the cost of knowingly NOT stopping the virus while simultaneously ruining people’s lives, health, and economies worth it for a “postponement”? Clearly not.)

And I mentioned extensively about strategies to “stop” the spread too.

It’s the other way around humilityseeker. At least with “stopping” the virus.

You are the one that I have not seen offer anything.
Restate your suggestions in light of today’s record breaking figures.

You have mentioned nothing easily found, restate in dot point without the emotive

Let me repeat that 2 people are dying per minute from Covid.
Let me repeat that MANDATED Government mitigation policies did not protect them.

Social distancing.
Mandated societal masking up.
Mandated Government lockdowns against HEALTHY people.

All abject failures.

“I’m starving now”: World faces unprecedented hunger crisis amid coronavirus pandemic

BY DEBORA PATTA, HALEY OTT

UPDATED ON: MAY 2, 2020 / 7:03 PM / CBS NEWS

It’s Friday morning in Alexandra township – a poor neighborhood on the outskirts of South Africa’s largest city, Johannesburg – and dozens of people are gathered in a field outside a food distribution point, hoping today might be the day they get something to eat.

“If you’re hungry, it’s easy to get sick from stress and everything,” says Mduduzi Khumalo, who’s been lining up every day for two weeks. To get food your name has to be on the list and, so far, despite registering multiple times, his hasn’t been.

Khumalo worked as a delivery man before South Africa’s coronavirus lockdown decimated his income. His children used to get two meals a day at school, but schools are closed now. Every day, the kids wait for him at the family’s tiny home, and every day brings the same bad news.

“They know that if I don’t get anything for them, it’s over,” Khumalo tells CBS News.

Famines “of biblical proportions”

The coronavirus pandemic has left the world facing an unprecedented hunger crisis. The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has warned that by the end of the year, more than 260 million people will face starvation – double last year’s figures.

“In a worst-case scenario, we could be looking at famine in about three dozen countries,” . . .

Stop cornhusking this issue by going off topic on emotive photos of South Africa,

Right now while you read this

2 people per minute will die from Covid

Let me repeat over and over.

We were warned.

Even go back and read the conservatives posts from last March.

This is just what they told us would happen.

And it did.
Who warned you 2 people a minute would die of Covid today?

Lets stop making this political. Get outraged.
Look at countries that have this under control because a country experiencing

Does NOT have this under control. Leaders and everyone needs to srep up now, quit the utterly ridiculous 'cancel Christmas ’ diatribe , get outraged and do what needs to be done to slow this, or just not let it become 10 deaths a minute.

B-b-but leftists! Globalists! Stolen elections! Cancelling Christmas! Pizzagate!

What statement has our current leader made about this dire situation the country is now in?

I don’t believe he has even mentioned COVID since October, and I’m fairly certain he hasn’t bothered to attend a COVID meeting since September.

We have no leadership from the national level on this, and it shows.
