With his immigration tirade, Trump squashed what minute chance he still had in this election. He showed brilliantly his fatal flaw: he values the immediate emotional gratification of telling an audience what they want to hear rather than actually building electoral support. I don’t think he even cares about being president, he just wants to bask in chants and applause at his rallies. I’m glad he’s having fun. The fun will end on Election Day.
Not sure why you call it a tirade when he wants to enforce all existing immagration laws. Should we not enforce our laws?

Is this a rhetorical question?

Do you know what the process of immigration involves?

Here’s an interesting exchange that happened on MSNBC:

Marco Gutiérrez, founder of Latinos for Trump: “My culture is a very dominant culture. It is imposing and it’s causing problems. If you don’t do something about it, you’re going to have taco trucks on every corner.”

Joy Reid, who was filling in for Chris Hayes: “I don’t even know what that means. And I’m afraid to ask.”

Is having taco trucks on every corner any worse than having a Starbucks on every corner? What’s wrong with taco trucks? 🙂

I wouldn’t mind authentic Taco trucks on every corner! Taco Bell is BLEH!!!

That’s exactly what they said on Morning Joe this morning, “we’d love an America with taco trucks on every corner!” 😉

In any case, the Trump surrogates seem pretty incompetent, except perhaps KellyAnne Gannon, but even she has a hard time going through the contortions of having to defend her boss.

“Taco trucks” was trending onTwitter today. Yesterday, Giuliani’s “make Mexico great again also” hat was trending.

Make Mexico great again also.

Perhaps Mr. Reid doesn’t know what it means, but I think I do.

If that’s what he said, then it’s disturbing to me, at least. Personally, I would prefer the culture we have. If Mr. Gutierrez is saying we’re going to get forcibly “Mexicanized”, for everything that could mean, then I would just as soon turn it down. Ask a Central American (especially a Mayan or other “Indio”, even one from Mexico) what it’s like to live in a community in which the “La Raza” culture is dominant. I have, and if you’re not a member of “the Race”, it’s not good.

With all due respect, I rather like Taco Bell. But then, I make no pretense to having a refined palate. I even like Steak 'n Shake chili.

That’s fine if you like it. Once you’ve had real mexican food though, Taco Bell will never do

Heres the thing, the US is not some congruent, cohesive culture. We’re a melting pot of people. My own grandmother’s family immigrated here from Russia in the early 1920’s but throughout her life she still maintained her Russian culture that influenced her life. My grandfather was an immigrant from Italy, he still maintained his Italian heritage and culture throughout his life. He also fought in World War 2 and earned 3 purple hearts for our country. Were these people less “American” because they kept their heritage and culture.

My own husband is an naturalized citizen from Nepal…he makes the worlds best curries and loves bollywood movies. He also loves this country, the USA, and is a productive US citizen. I just dont by this idea that to be a productive US citizen means to abandon our heritage. I guess my point is, those Mexican immigrants, that you speak of, if theyre naturalized citizens…then I see them as much as valid US citizens as you or I. I just dont by this idea that they are seperate from our nation.

America is a melting pot of cultures as is evidenced by all the “little Italy’s” "Chinatownes, etc. We celebrate and enjoy the many different cultures.Yet it seems that many of the newer immigrants want to hold fast to their native language as well.English is our predominant language. To not expect an immigrant to fully assimilate to our Countryby becoming proficient in the English language is a cause for chaos and disunity.

Yeah but people are complaning of more than just language…what is wrong with Taco trucks, Mexican television, mexican heritage groups. I do agree that it is ideal that they learn English, but I also truly don’t see anything wrong with naturalized US citizens maintaining their spanish language with their family and friends and cultural groups that they are members of. There are times when I wish my grandfather passed on his Italian language onto me, I have respect and honor for his heritage which is also mine. I still remember his giddiness when I went to mass with him at the age of 12, and there was a visiting Italian priest. They giddily spoke Italian together like old friends. My husband is teaching his own language to our son. That doesn’t make him any less American
