What an assumptionHow do you know the reason Bush wasn’t present at the DNC?.By the same token, the same can be said of Hillary Clinton, she is out of the country, obviously wants nothing to do with Obama outside of her assigned position
I think both are rather broad assumptions.

President Bush, though I was never a supporter, has conducted himself in a very dignified manner since he left office. Perhaps he is just tired of the political scene.Being President for 8 years could do that to anyone.

Regarding the Good Secretary of State, maybe she just didn’t want to be a distraction, with all the rumors swirling regarding the VP post.

Could be?

John

Well, the founding fathers never used it in either the Declaration (yes, they used creator, rather vague), or the Constitution.

John

In the 2012 GOP document, references to God actually increased six-fold over the 2008 platform – which saw two mentions, both in the chairman’s preamble:

– “. . . humility before God and before a nation of free and independent thinkers.”

– “. . .ever grateful to Almighty God for the political, religious, and civil liberties we enjoy. . .”

In 2012, the GOP mentioned God 12 times, in 10 separate phrases:

– “. . .Reaffirm that our rights come from God, are protected by government, and that the only just government is one that truly governs with the consent of the governed. . .”

– “. . .May God continue to shed his grace on the United States of America. . .”

– “. . .We offer our Republican vision of a free people using their God-given talents. . .”

– “. . .God-given individual rights. . .”

– “. . .the primary role of government is to protect the God-given, inalienable, inherent rights of its citizens. . .”

– “. . .defend the law-abiding citizen’s God-given right of self-defense. . .”

– “. . .taking advantage of all our American God-given resources. . .”

– “. . .God-given natural resources. . .”

– “. . .We condemn decisions by activist judges to deny children the opportunity to say the Pledge of Allegiance in its entirety, including “Under God” in public schools. . .”

– “. . .the God-given natural beauty and resources of our country. . .”

I really wouldn’t count most of those as a legitimate reference to God.

I think it would be easy to accuse both parties of pandering to their base.

Article Vll of the constitution says
Done in Convention by the Unanimous Consent of the States present the Seventeenth Day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven and of the Independence of the United States of America the Twelfth In witness whereof We have hereunto subscribed our Names
This is a reference to Jesus Christ

Article I Section 7 of the Constitution
If any Bill shall not be returned by the President within ten Days (Sundays excepted) after it shall have been presented to him, the Same shall be a Law, in like Manner as if he had signed it…
Government does not do business on sunday, that is related to a Christianity and to no other religion. Framers gave recognition to this

Bush conducted himself in a dignified manner both while in office and since leaving. He never in eight years inserted himself into the media hyperbole always choosing to ignore all the nasty remarks. To this day he has shown remarkable self control in not buyung into and responding to the incessant attacks made by the left, including Obama.

The standard way of listing the date in those days…remember how many deists were among the founders. I dare say a few atheists. BTW, many in those days also referred to royalty as Lord. Flowery language from a different era.

Again, a tradition at that time. Even the old blue laws have not been gone that long.

Where is the word God mentioned? That was the issue wasn’t it?

Controversial, inept mayor Julian Castro headlines first night of DNC

This evening, the Democratic National Convention will feature a speech by Illinois governor Pat Quinn. It is an interesting choice, mostly because of Quinn’s abysmal record on the most important issue of this election: the economy. But it is also notable because of the similar governing approaches of Quinn and another prominent executive from Illinois, Barack Obama, and their shared contrast with two Wisconsin reformers, Scott Walker and Paul Ryan.
Quinn, like Obama, has shown no interest in reforming unsustainable entitlement programs. Facing a massive budget hole, he championed the largest income-tax increase in the country through his state legislature. Those who expected this 67 percent personal income-tax increase, coupled with the nation’s fourth-highest corporate-income tax rate, to shore up the state’s vastly underfunded pension system were mistaken; Quinn simply ignored a required $4 billion pension payment, leaving the system in shambles with no path to solvency.
Much to Quinn’s chagrin, Governor Walker has delighted in contrasting his record with that of his neighbor to the south, and the two approaches could not be more different. Walker took office in January 2011 with a mandate to get government spending under control in Wisconsin without raising taxes. He delivered in a major way, championing public-employee compensation reforms that allowed local governments to avoid property-tax increases (often facilitating cuts) while avoiding teacher layoffs. Indeed, this required some political courage, as unions led an expensive recall campaign against the governor. He prevailed, and his mandate to continue to fix the state is as strong as ever.
In many ways this battle between the Wisconsin and Illinois styles of governance is playing out in the presidential race as well. Mitt Romney chose another bold reformer from Wisconsin in Paul Ryan to fill out his ticket. As chairman of the Budget Committee, Ryan has taken a serious approach to dealing with the country’s entitlement crisis. Ryan, like Walker, has staked his legacy on reforms that a decade ago would have been politically impossible. But his seriousness and meticulousness won over his colleagues in Congress, and the Ryan budget passed the U.S. House last year.

DNC Video: ‘The Government Is The Only Thing We All Belong To’

If you watched RNC carefully, you could not help but notice almost every speaker said “God bless you”, “God bless America”, or “God bless our nation” at the end of their speech, with no exception. I purposely paid attention to that. If you did not watch RNC that carefully, do us a favor - don’t come back to say something like “I really wouldn’t count most of those as a legitimate reference to God”. They mentioned God, and mentioned Him a lot.

Any Christian who really thinks God is important should leave the Democrat party.

Yes, but what does this tell us about the two parties’ respective bases?
That some in each are swayed by irrelevant wording. Adding or removing God from a statement of policy neither strengthens nor weakens that policy.

John

It does, however, certainly at least indicate a disrespect for our Creator.

WOw… how could any Catholic/Christian endorse a party like that ? Blasphemy at its worst.
Very easy actually. I have a deep faith in God. I am a Christian. Jesus Christ I believe is my Lord and Savior. I love Him with all my heart and strive to follow Him to the best I can according to my understanding of Him. The Democratic President Barack Obama is also a Christian having been baptized in the United Church of Christ, marrying in the UCC, and he and his wife Michelle having had their children baptized as well. I’ve attended many Catholic Masses in my yrs. May begin attending a non Catholic Christian service. The Democratic President and his family have attended St John’s Episcopal near the White House where they have worshiped God and received communion.

But I recognize not everyone in America shares my faith. We are a society of many beliefs as well as non belief . So I have no problem with it. I also believe neither of the 2 US political parties is perfect. But in my view the Democratic Party, while granted not perfectly, better represents the social justice message of Jesus, care for the poor and the sick, and on issues of war and peace. Thank God American combat has ended in Iraq. And it is a party not expecting the poor to sacrifice with severe budget cuts while at the same time raising defense spending and not be willing to ask the rich to give more.

I hope this helps you understand better how any Christian could. God bless us all regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, creed, or non creed. And God bless the United States of America.

If they were opposed to any mention of Jesus Christ they could of used the flowery language as you call it with C.E. and no mention of the Lord but they did not
Again, a tradition at that time. Even the old blue laws have not been gone that long.
Where is the word God mentioned? That was the issue wasn’t it?
You said God was not mentioned, that is not correct. Constitution has allusions to priority of Sunday worship, freedom to practice Christianity and dating of Jesus in history. Declaration has 4 allusions to the bible and God

It does, however, certainly at least indicate a disrespect for our Creator.
Using Him for political purposes? I couldn’t agree more.

John

How exactly does any platform language strengthen or weaken policy?

On the other hand, if the language reflects the focus of the respective parties’ bases then we should not be surprised by the policy priority differences between them.

Stay tuned for this week’s Democrat celebration of abortion:

If they were opposed to any mention of Jesus Christ they could of used the flowery language as you call it with C.E. and no mention of the Lord but they did not
C.E. is a modern invention. Our founders were very eloquent men and quite fearless. Had they intended to include Jesus, or any other deity in the meat of either document, they would have done so.

The documents are intentionally devoid of specific references because our founders were a diverse group…some believed, some didn’t, some were_____insert denomination, some were not. They knew that the only way to succeed in their dangerous venture was to be inclusive of all beliefs.

Just my read on things.
