Man, Seeker, is there a Christian alive in America who seeks to create a theocracy here?
I don’t know. And I’m unsure of the percentage of Catholics in the US. But it does seem like some on this forum would like to make Catholic Church teaching on some things the law for the land. You have the same right as everyone else though to advocate for your positions.

The tragic extinction of the pro-life Democrats

For pro-life Democrats there has always been tension between their opposition to abortion and their support of liberal social justice programs. They have sought to square the circle by constructing a “whole life” rationale in which they claim it is society’s job to protect not just the unborn, but the poor and the vulnerable at every stage of life. As such, they’ve weaved the morality of opposing abortion into support for a whole tapestry of liberal causes: everything from Head Start to welfare to immigration reform. It takes some doing, but nearly every liberal cause can be pulled into the whole-life cause. Various panelists yesterday morning, for instance, noted that support of campaign finance reform, opposition to the Iraq war, and “environmental justice” (whatever that is) are all essentially pro-life issues.

By not limiting themselves to the narrow topic of abortion, pro-life Democrats were able to make an uneasy peace with their party. The Democratic mainstream might not give any ground on abortion rights, but pro-life Dems could rationalize their existence by pointing to the good that liberal social welfare policies were doing for all of the souls lucky enough not to get aborted. What made this arrangement possible was the fact that there was a reasonably stable status quo on abortion—there was no immediate mechanism for overturning Roe, but neither was the government actively expanding abortion rights.

And then came Obamacare.

This was a very sad story to read:
So when Democrats for Life rallied in Charlotte yesterday morning, it was striking that the group couldn’t muster a single sympathetic office-holder. The panel consisted of two representatives who were ousted in 2010 (Bart Stupak and Kathy Dahlkemper) and two academics (Catholic University’s Stephen Schneck and St. Thomas’s Thomas Berg). It was a sad, but revealing, presentation.
Rep Jerry Costello was a pro-life Democrat I supported with my vote.

Voted YES on banning federal health coverage that includes abortion.

Voted NO on allowing human embryonic research

Voted YES on federal crime to harm fetus while committing other crimes.

Voted YES on restricting interstate transport of minors to get abortions.

Voted YES on making it a crime to harm a fetus during another crime.

Voted YES on banning partial-birth abortion except to save mother’s life.

Voted YES on funding for health providers who don’t provide abortion info.

Voted YES on banning Family Planning funding in US aid abroad.

Rated 0% by NARAL, indicating a pro-life voting record.

Sadly, he’s retiring.

The “Pro Life Democrat” is no longer an endangered species. They’re extinct. :nope:

:clapping: i was laughing while i was listening to her tell the story of obama’s rusted out car, shoes that were too small and the coffee table picked from the dumpster. does she think we are stupid?? he had enough money to go to columbia, but after that he was poor? and they were both lawyers?
I don’t think you get a job with a law firm unless you are well dressed and well spoken. But yes, she’s pretty sure her audience IS stupid, gullible, and easily manipulated. We will see. I thought I may have seen some doubts cross the faces of even the most dedicated female Obama voter last night. The cameras went in so close, I could almost see a thought or two being processed.

*Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz on Tuesday sharply denied saying that Israel’s ambassador to the United States had claimed Republicans are “dangerous” to Israel and accused The Washington Examiner of “deliberately” misquoting her — but audio posted online by the conservative newspaper suggests otherwise.

The Examiner’s Philip Klein reported that the Florida congresswoman told a training session of Jewish Democrats in Charlotte, “We know, and I’ve heard no less than Ambassador Michael Oren say this that what the Republicans are doing is dangerous for Israel.”

Wasserman Schultz pushed back against the report Tuesday evening, telling Fox News’s Shepard Smith she never said those words.

“I didn’t say he said that,” the congresswoman said. “And unfortunately, that comment was reported by a conservative newspaper. It’s not surprising they would deliberately misquote me. What I always say is that unfortunately the Republicans have made Israel a political football, which is dangerous for Israel. And Ambassador Oren has said that we can’t ever suggest that there is any daylight between the two parties on Israel, because there isn’t. And that that’s harmful to Israel. That’s what I said, and that is accurate.”

But later Tuesday night, Klein posted audio of the congresswoman’s Monday comments that clearly feature her saying, “We know, and I’ve heard no less than Ambassador Michael Oren say this, that what the Republicans are doing is dangerous for Israel.”*

I want to watch Pres Clinton speak tonight to see if he will “toe the line” with regard to the Obama campaign. There is no love lost between Clinton and Obama no matter what anyone says.

I also find it laughable when the Obama campaign tries to recruit Pres Clinton to help Obama in the campaign. Pres Clinton for all of his faults did an awesome job with the economy compared to the sitting President and any attempt to have Obama compared to Clinton in regard to the Economy is ridiculous.
This morning I saw a comparison between the two, particularly with respect to the canard “Clinton raised taxes and the economy boomed.” In reality both men had a rough time initially and both were dealt a wake up call with the Congressional election. Clinton “got the memo” and realized that the Republican takeover of the House meant he would accomplish more by moving to the center. He then was credited with Welfare Reform. Both required working WITH a Republican Congress rather than dissing them. While he did raise some tax rates, he cut capital gains taxes. At the time the economy was GROWING not declining. Admittedly some of this growth was the dot.com bubble that Bush 41 inherited.

Compare to Obama who had full control of House, Senate and White House for two years. He shoved through unpopular legislation without Republican (or the public’s) support. The economy is trending DOWN not up with growth less in recent quarters than in past quarters. He got slapped during the 2010 election and as an incumbent is in a tough fight for re-election.

Has he moved to the center? No. Has he expressed a desire to work WITH Republicans? No. Has he pushed any legislation to REDUCE spending while demanding tax increases? No.

But of course Obama thinks we’ll all be fooled and think happy days are here again.

If there is no “God”, “Nature’s God” or “Creator”, then where do our “unalienable rights” come from?

you probably would not have been able to watch michelle’s entire speech. i couldn’t.
michelle wanted you to believe that she and barack were the most wonderful and common everyday people. what i took from the speech is that the agenda was - if i say the right things and they believe what i am saying, my family and i can enjoy 4 more years in the White House pretending we really care about the middle class and the future and well being of this country.
ok now your going to make me go and watch it…I only read it and of coarse I probably put it into a context different than what she put it in…:o
Personal I think it really is more about them having a good life and wanting others to have it too. I still believe Gov. Romney and Paul Ryan understand how to accomplish this on a much much deeper level. I sincerely do believe they want to help others, they just want the help coming all from government subsidiaries.
I beleive Gov. Romeny wants to help others by helping them help themselves.
Now I know that really big corp executives milk their companies dry and that unions let them leaving the workers underpaid and without a job. They get milked dry too. The way I understand it is the government needs to do something about this. If corp executives do not have the moral integrity to take care of their employees and treat them with dignity by ensuring that not only their needs are meat but their families needs are meat too then the government has the moral obligation to step in and correct the problem. But it should correct the problem by correcting these injustices against the employee verses trying to find ways to give the employee more government hand outs.
Anyway, I believe thats enough of my two cents for now…hope it made some sense.😃

Oh, but she did lie. Neither she nor Barack were poor. He attended a very tony Hawaiian private school, she went to private school as well.
You know something…that term lie gets bandied about far too frequently on this board, even though it is often a false accusation.

She never said she or the President were poor:
You see, Barack and I were both raised by families who didn’t have much in the way of money or material possessions but who had given us something far more valuable – their unconditional love, their unflinching sacrifice, and the chance to go places they had never imagined for themselves.
My father was a pump operator at the city water plant, and he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis when my brother and I were young.
They simply believed in that fundamental American promise that, even if you don’t start out with much, if you work hard and do what you’re supposed to do, then you should be able to build a decent life for yourself and an even better life for your kids and grandkids.
By your logic, every kid who attends a private school is somehow in the social elite. I’d like you to tell that to the kids at Elk County Catholic High School. For most of them, just like the Obama, their parents are making sacrifices for what they hope will be a better future for their kids.

If you have any honor you will retract the lie statement, which, BTW, violates the forums rules on charity.

i thought the same thing. there were a few woman i thought might be thinking to themselves that what they were hearing was a load of manure and seemed offended that she was taking them to be stupid and gullible. i hope i wasn’t reading into the looks on their faces what i wanted to and that maybe little lightbulbs were going off in their heads and they will see who the democrats really are.

Exodus 21:22 describes maybe the first fetal homocide law

If a pregnant woman is struck and baby is born and gives birth

If a pregnant woman gives birth after being struck and this results in stillbirth or miscarriage it says, ‘but if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life’ Exodus 21:23

Unborn child’s life was as valued and as equal that of soembody who was born

If child is born with defects due to an injury the person who injured must pay a penalty, ‘eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot’ Exodus 21:24. If unborn child is born and lives assailant is fined
Abysinnia I’m not sure we are reading from the same Scripture. I quoted from Douay Rheims where it said if the mother experiences death, in other words she loses her own life, the penalty for her loss of life was life for life. Which was worse than the penalty if the fetus’s life was lost. In that case the penalty was not necesarily life for life. But what the husband wanted and that which was approved by the arbiter.

But you as a Catholic Christian and me as a Christian could go on and on. So I shall leave it at that.

And I have some other things to do before I watch God talked about at the DNC again tonight.

Liberalism is a Sin

INTRODUCTION
Few errors have so firmly entrenched themselves for so long a time as has the Error of Liberalism. Few sins have been so misunderstood as has been the Sin of Liberalism. In reprinting this timely book, first printed in English in 1899, we hope to enlighten Catholics as to the causes and effect of and remedies for Liberalism.

Oh, but she did lie. Neither she nor Barack were poor. He attended a very tony Hawaiian private school, she went to private school as well. She tried to make his grandmother out to be just an ordinary teller or something, overlooked because men were promoted over her, yeah, down for the struggle.

I think she should have stressed her husband’s true background, he sounds a lot worse that way. Born to a young girl, deserted by his bio-dad, mom divorced and remarried, moved to Indonesia, adopted, became a Muslim, Mom left step-dad and send Barry back to Hawaii to his grandparents, never sees his mother again, sees his father just once in his whole life, has an identity crisis when half-sister tells him his father is a violent drunkard, goes to Kenya to find the dreams of his father and succeeds, comes back to America and aligns himself with terrorists, communists, and America-haters.

Makes a better story than Barry driving a rusted-out beater, wearing shoes too small (maybe they also had cardboard to cover the holes?), and picking furniture out of dumpsters. Did Barry take Michelle to the auto-mat for a 5 c piece of pie for their first date? LOL
BAHAHAHAHA,No it was Baskin Robbins…remember the story about the statue erected in honor of their first kiss? As to the up from poverty claims, Bret Hume called it the Desolation Derby with each speech trying to outdo the other.

Amazing how all stories of Obama’s Commie Mommie paint her as a struggling single mother trying to raise her son (whom she foisted off on her parents to pursue her own dreams).

No comment on how two people with relatively undistinguished records (Obama the member of the Choom Gang and a self described slacking stoner) got into Ivy League schools. Hey forget the transcripts, let’s see their applications. The level of creative writing there might rival the grand stretches of truth in his biographies…

Well someone has to talk about Mitt Romney. At the RNC Chris Christie and Marco Rubio were too busy talking about themselves.
I find it helps my analysis of the conventions to actually watch the conventions.

That is a different article. The one I was referring to was on Morning Edition on 9/30/12, the day after the speech. They factchecked Ryan’s speech reporting the Janesville comment was not true. Later in the day, that factcheck disappeared. I can’t find any factchecks for 8/30/12 Morning Edition…

npr.org/2012/08/30/160293856/ryan-tells-gop-delegates-u-s-needs-a-turnaround
RYAN: When he talked about change, many people liked the sound of it, especially in Janesville, where we were about to lose a major factory. A lot of guys I went to high school with worked at that GM plant. Right there at that plant, candidate Obama said: I believe that if our government is there to support you, this plant will be here for another hundred years. That’s what he said in 2008.Well, as it turned out, that plant didn’t last another year.
LIASSON: Ryan left the impression that this was President Obama’s fault. In fact, the plant closed down in 2008, before Mr. Obama took office.
This is the closest I’ve found for that day. No mention of factchecker. He even used the word “believe” not “promise.”

BAHAHAHAHA,No it was Baskin Robbins…remember the story about the statue erected in honor of their first kiss? …
For the sake of accuracy, it’s a big rock with a plaque and photo, not a statue.

Are you serious? What is difference between being poor and what she said and implied?

Amazing how all stories of Obama’s Commie Mommie paint her as a struggling single mother trying to raise her son (whom she foisted off on her parents to pursue her own dreams).

Lisa
Really Lisa? A dead woman who can’t even speak up for herself and you would post that? 😊 (smilie inserted on your behalf)

Are you sure you’re not a Romney campaign strategist incognito? This scenario sounds plausible to me, given Romney’s track record.
For some weird reason, I seem to have the ability to differentiate realpolitik from ‘pie in the sky’ rhetoric ;). Maybe Romney’s just shy and would rather allow Obama to be credited with ‘caring’, but I have the feeling that he’d get over his diffidence after a short spell in the WH.
