Perhaps you are not aware of all the news agencies activities during the watergate scandal which led to the drafting and passage of articles of impeachment of President Richard “I am not a crook” Nixon. Nixon like the several presidents before him was unpopular for his continuing waging of the Vietnam War and his lying about the conduct of the war, while US troops were still fighting.

Today, we have a president (who I voted for, by the way) who acts in a way unbecoming of POTUS, including cover-ups of adulterous relationships, undeniably attacks America’s allies, denigrates the US intelligence gathering agencies, etc. and is polarizing the country perhaps beyond what the people will stand for.

It is not fake news to report the contradictory and incriminating things that POTUS does. The special problem is that, like presidents before him, he creates sensations in the press while doing things behind the scenes, things that get little attention. We simply don’t know what he said to the leaders of communist regimes – diplomacy has been turned on its head. Will we go to war, simply taking his word for what the conflict is?

The sensation has been about what “meddling” the Russians have done in the US, but the US has been meddling in other countries for decades.
 
We will have to disagree. In my opinion he is the best President since Reagan, hopefully he continues to do well, I love America and wish our country the best. The only way to defeat the political correctness of the Dems was and is Trump. The Dems platform is extremely anti religion and anti Catholic compared to President Donal Trump.
 
CNN is really Fake News, this is the reason why abortion never got abolished in the US

He’s a serial liar, who might be mentally ill. Trump compares in NO WAY to Reagan who did have the good of the US, and the world, at heart. Trump allegedly, and I emphasize allegedly, colluded with Russia to poison people against Clinton. I’m not a fan of Clinton, but I am a fan of Russia staying out of US elections. Reagan never cozied up to Russia. Instead, he said, “Mr. President, tear down this wall.” (The Berlin wall.) Reagan was an honorable man, an admirable man, and I’m not even a Republican. I have no party affiliation.

And Trump’s own daughter, and favorite child, as well as his wife, were vehemently against his policy of separating parents and children. I don’t know how tearing families apart can, in any way, be construed to represent any kind of religion based on the teachings of Christ. Ivanka also contradicted her father when she said, “And no, the media isn’t the enemy of the people.” I applaud those two women (Ivanka and Melania) for standing up for what is right. (This is not “fake news,” CNN played a tape of Ivanka saying it, and she confirmed it is her, and those are her beliefs.)

The US is not a theocracy. In fact, our Founding Fathers insisted on separation of church and state. I am a baptized Catholic and an ethnic Jew, but I’m glad we don’t make laws based on any particular religion. Religion is something private, to be taught to children by their parents, unless, of course, those children have been violently ripped out of their arms by…someone.

I would never have an abortion, even if I were raped. It would not enter my mind to do so. I would cherish the baby, which would be my flesh and blood as well. And the reason I feel that way is because my parents instilled in me a respect for all life at a very young age. That is the ONLY way to stop abortion. I have friends who say if abortion were not legal in the US, they would just go to another country or perform the abortion themselves, if need be. Laws will not force people to have children they do not want to have. Respect for life will. And it won’t be force.

What the media reports and doesn’t report can make things look differently than how it actually is.

And of course I used Google. That’s one of the tools we have at our service to search out the facts.

To @jimcarry (the OP) – no, I don’t think any of the major news sources are trying to lead people astray. Local news (which is all I watch, since I don’t have cable) doesn’t get into trying to sway people one way or the other.

And I seriously just think of CNN, MSNBC, FOX, and whatever else is on cable as just pure entertainment shows. If I want actual news I listen to the BBC, or sometimes NPR, and always the free three – CBS, ABC, and NBC.

If I hear something that strikes me as important or odd or controversial, I head to the internet to look for primary sources. I certainly do not turn to CAF for the news, or for how to interpret the news. :roll_eyes:
 
That is kind of how I approach new, with the exception of breaking news. Then I will tune into CNN for a little while anyway.

Proof, please? There is NO proof Democrats ever met with Russians, not even an indication, however, Donald Trump, Jr. has admitted the infamous Trump Tower meeting, which he attended, was with Russians to “get dirt on Hillary Clinton.” Even the president now admits it was for that purpose - collusion. Or are you saying both Trumps are lying?

Let’s play another game! This one is about Peter Navarro, Trump’s Director of Trade and Industrial Policy–yeah, the guy who said “There’s a special place in Hell” for Justin Trudeau when Trudeau said he would put counter-tariffs on US goods coming into Canada. That guy.

Well, a month or so ago he was on the PBS Newshour explaining why imports were bad. PBS re-ran the clip a few weeks later. Here is Navarro’s explanation of why imports are bad (he wrote this on a white board for the PBS correspondent–the whole clip was devoted to this. It wasn’t an aside.)

GDP = C (consumption) + I (investment) + G (government) + X (exports) - M (Imports)

Therefore, Navarro said, if you increase imports (which are subtracted from GDP!) you decrease GDP.

For a heart, I want you to go back to economics 101 (probably day two), and explain why that is nonsense. The answer is obvious. I also want to note that the PBS correspondent didn’t challenge Navarro, nor did they comment when they re-ran the clip a few weeks later!

But this is a perfect example of what is going on–complete nonsense masquerading as “truth.”

Actually, he did that along with his partner, with the support of his family and friends.

As did each and every person in the US who had an abortion. They and their family/friends make the decision to abort.

We become hypocrites when we call out one grave sin while playing along with another.

I honestly don’t think Trump committed adultery with the support of Melania, and I don’t think she has ever been accused of it.

I respect your right to hold an opinion, but none of us has any idea if Trump’s family and friends supported and encouraged his adulterous affairs.

I’m pretty sure it is public knowledge that Mr Trump has been married three times, that all of his legal spouses are living. When the current Mrs Trump entered into a relationship, do you believe she was not aware of the other living Mrs. Trumps?

Interesting how many of the “facts” listed as not being true came from Republicans (Jack Kingston, Sarah Palin, Mike Rogers,Michele Bachmann, Jan Brewer). Perhaps they should stop having conservatives on. Then there would have only been one false statement in that list.
