No, giving or not giving people awards is not a Christian virtue. It is a secular practice. It has nothing to do with loving anyone. It is an honor of which is measured purely by secular standards, which by the way can means they can honor people for bad reasons, I do believe Margret Sanger won a few awards in her day.
Hey, it’s Caesar giving, in recognition of a good cause. That’s not to say this woman doesn’t have faults, but then who doesn’t? Love even your enemies…forgive them, for they know not what they do.

I have read it- many times. Thank you.:tiphat:

It is NOT an admonishment against judgment per se. But rather, it is a warning against hypocrisy.

Once you remove the greater guilt of the matter from your OWN eye - THEN you must help your brother remove his error from HIS eye.

See? (pardon the pun) 👍
We’ll have to agree to disagree. I must follow my faith formed conscience, as should you. I don 't see it as a ‘warning’ against hypocrisy, as I do Christ calling them hypocrites, for we all are sinners. I can’t cast a first stone, or the second, third, and so on. I’m working on the beam in my eye.

What would you say if I said, ‘the sky is blue?’ 😛

In other words they are your brothers.

However some DO know what they do.

And if they will not listen to humble fraternal correction then you must shake the dust from your shoes.👍

Uhm… Our Lord clearly said in the end to remove the speck from your brothers eye. THAT is fraternal correction.

And the stones being cast were actually a final condemnation to death; the ultimate judgment of the adulteress’ soul - cast by hypocrites who were guilty of the same crime … and then some.

Please. Learn the Catholic contextual interpretation of the scriptures. 🙂

OK. I was all set to let it go; but you really are a convert, aren’t you?

Actually no.

I’m a revert.

Why do you ask?
No special reason. I have my own personal take on the the converts and reverts who post at a Catholic site. They seem to have a lot in common. I wish you well. Thank you for answering

Please, share with us your “personal take”.

I’m curious to hear.

No hard feelings. I promise.😉

He also tells us to go and sin no more. This woman has reveled in the death of Americans and Israelis, who were murdered. I as a Christian cannot support her receiving a reward, (especially as rewards by nature are not given to everyone, or all our ‘enemies’ or brothers who sin, but are supposed to be a special reward for those who do good). It is also not a good political move for Mr. Obama to then give her a medal by the International woman of Courage. How courageous is it anyways to gloat over your enemies death, the death of women and children by the way, innocent people who are vacationing or just going to work.?

Giving people awards and honors has NOTHING to do with loving anyone.
The whole discussion is nonsense and beneath the dignity of mature adults. We have people killing one another, jews targeted for being jews, children being blown up, and we are seriously trying to twist Scripture into arguing that she deserves an award?

The opposite of hate is not “give an award.” Loving one another does not mean “give each other awards!” This is embarrassing. Luckily, only a few people take this nonsense seriously.

It was to suggest, when we see something in line with the Gospel, we shouldn’t criticize it, but encourage more actions in line with more Gospels.
So you have nothing bad to say about President G.W. Bush then?

Enough for us brother. I don’t take ad hominems well and I know the context of Catholic interpretation of scriptures. I offered Catholic approved commentary to support my view.

Actually you offered some Catholic approved commentary to support an incomplete and myopic personal view.

I apologize if my plea to you sounded like an attack. That was not my intent.

My apologies.

“Ibrahim has since “refused to apologize” for her tweets, writing on Twitter that the ”Zionist lobby in America” is to blame.”

🤷

washingtonpost.com/blogs/worldviews/wp/2013/03/08/the-tweets-that-cost-samira-ibrahim-her-state-department-award/
If she deserved an award for her original comments about hating Jews and wanting America to burn, she should be probably be beatified for doubling down and refusing to apologize. Right?

Also, now in addition to being a hateful, racist poerson, she is apparently a liar. She maintained that her acccount had been hacked (over a hundred times), and now says she doesn’t apologize for anything she said? So which is it?

Exactly, you know, finally a muslim friend responded and apologized for her with a well thought out response. Her, well we’re awaiting the next message. I feel sorry for her and my prayers are with her.

My apologies.
The incomplete and myopic personal view is your ‘opinion’ only. I am not the only person to have the view I have. People read our posts and can see when quotes used apply to the points or not.

I think it best we end our discussion. I am not the topic of the discussion, or the other discussions where we have disagreed.

As a matter of consistent reasoning you cannot cite the relevance of your personal opinion and then claim personal anonymity on the matter when taken to task.

To make this less personal and reduce the risk of animosity I will address your “positions” rather than you exclusively as a person of faith; Because I cannot claim God’s exclusive right and ability to pass judgement on your heart or it’s motives. So I won’t. And please forgive me if I have. 🙂

Would that be agreeable?

If so:

Your position(s) have taken on ever-changing locations as if they are a mobile goalpost.

When presented with the Gospel justification (and command no less) to engage in Fraternal Correction to:
“… remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother’s eye.” - Matthew 7:5
Your position states that the beginning of that passage prohibits judgements exclusively:
“Stop judging,* that you may not be judged." - Matthew 7:1
HOWEVER, you will note the * note as copied from the USCCB Bible. And here is what that * note states:
“* [7:1] This is not a prohibition against recognizing the faults of others, which would be hardly compatible with Mt 7:5, but against passing judgment in a spirit of arrogance, forgetful of one’s own faults.”]
And what is Mt 7:5?

Why, the very line I originally referenced!
“… remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother’s eye.” - Matthew 7:5
So, obviously:
The OFFICIAL CATHOLIC understanding of this passage is NOT a prohibition against judgements, but rather a prohibition against hypocritical judgements as well as a command for humble fraternal judgements.
This is accurate. No?

When presented with the moral justification of Fraternal Correction from the Summa Theologica - your position is quickly redefined to the exclusive definition toward “bothers only” at the exclusion of our “enemies”.

HOWEVER when your position is reminded of the Scriptural/Theological precept that our “enemies” ARE IN FACT our “brothers” (specifically by) Our Lord’s entry into the enemy area of Samaria and His Fraternal Correction of the Samaritan Woman at The Well over her many divorces, your position then resorts to:

“Let’s drop this because it’s becoming too personal.”

But this is a teachable moment for all of us. And there is so much more Scriptural Truth one could mine from this discussion on Fraternal Correction.

We haven’t even scratched the surface of St. Paul’s use of this charitable precept and command with his Gentile “brothers and sisters” who were formerly his pagan “enemies”.

In fact Paul considers fraternal correction as the best way to bring back someone (brother or enemy) who has strayed from the path:
**
“If anyone refuses to obey what we say in this letter (…) do not look on him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.” - 2 Thessalonians 3:14-15; / Galatians 6:1.
**

And we haven’t even delved into the incomparable wisdom of St. Augustine who:
warns against the grave fault entailed in omitting to offer this help to one’s neighbor: “You do worse by keeping silent than he does by sinning.” - St. Augustine (Sermon 82, 7)
So I would humbly ask you to put aside your pride, and listen (not to me) but to the same Wisdom I have painfully come to hear as well: The Truth in it’s fullness from our timeless Catholic faith.👍
