Military armed with automatic guns are killed even with the best artillery, the police protecting this community were shot and injured, and I guarantee they have more training then the common joe.

Anyone believing their guns are going to protect them in these types of surprise settings are kidding themselves, and guns in the hands of nervous adrenaline pumped poorly trained individuals puts society in more danger.

Thank you, I was going to bring that Supreme Court case, but didn’t know if I remembered correctly.

You said that the silence from the MAGA crowd is deafening.

You bet!~ Can you hear it? NO ONE wants to talk about his hatred for helping immigrants which was a social media account statement that quite possibly led to the shooting.

Having more people armed can stop a rampage sooner.
Or add to the casualties. My old shooting instructor used to advise against consuming sugar or caffeine 48 hours before a competition, because it would mess with our aim. If merely drinking coffee is enough to compromise the accuracy of one’s shot, imagine how much worse it’s going to be when:
  1. You’re in a crowded area full of people screaming, panicking, and running.
  2. You have a moving target who is also trying to kill you.
  3. Your target likely has more firepower than you.
  4. You have an ungodly amount of adrenaline coursing through your body.

Hello sir.

Having a gun is certainly no guarantee of success in a self defense situation. However, as I mentioned previously, it is definitely a better option than relying on physical strength alone.

As for your statement on level of proficiency, you will find that many private individuals demonstrate better weapons handling skills than many police officers. I have heard it said that for many police officers, the gun is just a tool they are required to carry and qualify with when required.

Regardless of this, though, the fact that firearms are a tool that have the ability to largely take any physical deficiencies out of the equation in a self defense situation is something that should not be ignored.

Have a weapon on you yourself if armed guards are so distasteful to you. If you never know who could be armed or not, your are less likely to pull something stupid like the guy at Pittsburg did.
Could I use this comment as an example of a large problem with the topic of what guns have contributed to?

It is the idea that the “guy” “pulled something stupid”…Does anyone see this as unnerving?

It wasn’t something “stupid”. It was a massacre of sacred life on American soil within a House of Worship.

Are we becoming a nation where this type of thing is referred to as some stupid guy who did this thing?

Are we becoming immune to this type of casualty which is claiming the lives of innocents. God please don’t ever let me be immune to this, even as I age.

That is why people need to be trained to evaluate situations and use their weapon accordingly. Police are not the only people that can receive such training.

So far all I’ve seen in this thread is leftists attacking Trump for no reason and furthering the divide.

Would you make training mandatory in order to receive a gun? If not, we’re back to square one. If yes, who’s going to pay all those instructors? Taxpayers? Or are we going to make people pay out of pocket, putting everyone who can’t afford or doesn’t have time for extensive active shooter scenario training at a disadvantage?

While we’re at it, how do you expect non-profit organizations or small businesses to pay for 24/7 armed guards?

I said stupid because I am not going to pretend he was some evil mastermind. He was a conspiracy nut and that makes his actions stupid.

Also, you constantly bring up God in defense of your positions. I find it funny how the left side of the aisle has become more sanctimonious than the supposed “religious right.”

I mean… yes… What’s so bad about that?

I don’t know, I’m not the one legislating the details. Whatever the best compromise would be, I suppose.

Would you be willing to pay the taxes necessary to provide guns, protective equipment, shooting ranges, and instructors to every school across the nation? Also, what about kids who are mentally and/or physically prevented from taking part in such training?

I’m mostly just talking about teachers here. I kinda like @redbetta’s idea but me, I’m just talking about the teachers.
