Borders on idol worship. I cannot imagine a layman doing this. A biblical scholar over the course of a lifetime, maybe. Even then, would this lead you to a mysterious organization that is in prophecy only to the extent that Christ warned of false teachers? My sincere-o-meter’s needle didn’t budge off zero.
Is the right word, Bibleidolotry? I dont know. I dont think it qualifyes unless one makes the bible their God… 😦

Certainly, very few people apply themselves to this amount of study. I did because I wanted to know for myself what the Bible really said, not just what other people thought it said.

Prior to doing this, I noted how all the different religious people argued about their own opinions and beliefs about the Bible… Ironically, so few of them had even read the Bible for themselves.

They simply assumed their priest/minister/pastor had studied it carefully and they just went along with what he said.

Or, they were born into a family religion and just went along.

How silly to argue about something you haven’t studied for yourself.

The Bible Study program I outlined previously was only a fraction of what I did.

Hosemonkey: Since you feel the need to continually throw insults, can you share with us how you did your own Bible study, came to your own conclusions, and why you haven’t just formed your beliefs based on what your Church has told you?

Many people do this on topics they value more than the Bible.

For example, people who go to a University attend classes and study 8+ hours a day for many years. Many continue this level of study to acheive a Masters degree and then Ph.D.

It’s just a matter of values…

What are you seeking first in your life? How important is it to know you really have the correct understanding?

(Matthew 6:33) “Keep on, then, seeking first the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these [other] things will be added to YOU.

(Luke 13:24) “Exert yourselves vigorously to get in through the narrow door, because many, I tell YOU, will seek to get in but will not be able,

You still haven’t told me why you checked your brains at the door and joined the JWs. Oh, and what about the Magi I asked you about? Or are you gonna dodge that one too?

Thanks for coming back today. I never realized there was so much to do to trust in God.
I appreciate your thoughful comments. Thank you.

I’m not sure this level study had to do with trusting or not trusting God.

I just wanted to make sure I got the correct message straight from the source. Not filtered through the bias and opinions of others…

Obviously, if a person in the first century just listened to his religious leaders to tell him what was true, he would have been told to avoid Jesus, that he was from Satan, that he was a drunkard and a glutton.

It was the person who went right to the source and paid close attention with a sincere heart who learned the truth.

I believe it is the same today… so many people just listening to what they are told by their pastor/minister/priest about what to believe…

That’s why I’m encouraging people to study, research, and not simply believe what you are told…

The truth is readily available in these last days… you just have to pay attention… And, it’s being hand delivered to those with a listening ear.

(Daniel 12:4) “And as for you, O Daniel, make secret the words and seal up the book, until the time of [the] end. Many will rove about, and the [true] knowledge will become abundant.”

(Matthew 24:14) And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.

Hosemonkey,

You are developing a reputation as someone who simply complains and insults. You avoid sharing any thoughtful commentary on scriptures… While others are joining the discussion and sharing points of interest, you sit and heckle.

Your phrase “checked your brains at the door” is amusing. Please tell us more about how you’ve done your own study, made your own conclusions, reviewed the various religious faiths and systematically concluded you wanted to be Catholic.

Thank you for the reply Bible Steve, but I really only wanted to know about this KM mag today.

If you want to talk to me about the bible or verses in it, why not visit my thread with your method you outlined in post 289.

I think some people would like to hear it there.

Who am I developing a reputation with Steve, you? You are attempting continually to deflect the thread by throwing out patently ridiculous statements and then sailing on when someone questions you further. The preposterous statement regarding the star of Bethlehem, for example. The statement or speculation that the Magi were part of a hit on the Child Jesus. Get real, you are pushing an agenda here that has nothing to do with learning about Catholicism. You have claimed to already know how Catholics receive their bible knowledge, they just accept everything that the Church teaches them! You are here to push the JW diktat, , that’s proselytising,

Dear Hosemonkey.

Nice talking with you.

What would you be called if you fanatically devoted yourself to something 8 hours a day for an entire year-to the exclusion of everything else? For zero pay, and all so you would have the best of the imperfect bibles? Borders on bible worship. I’d retire tomorrow if I had to do that much work!

Are you sure there is no pay involved?

I did not assume that, but I am open to it.

I think you’d be called a University student.

The bible, as we know it, was finalized in the late 4th century. Where are all the souls that did not have the bible, but remained faithful to Christ’s teaching? Gone? Scripture, please, that backs this up.

They will have another chance according to the JW. You must understand the easy way one can slip into this thing.

They tell you what you want to hear.

It’s interesting to me that various people consider a person who focusses 8 hours a day for an extended period of time to really understand what it is said is fanatical.

However, dedicating 8-12 hours a day for 4, 6, 8 years as a University student studying a secular topic is considered commendable.

Also, it’s interesting to compare this with the average TV watching habits in the US:

“Figures from Nielsen Media Research show the average US household consuming eight hours and 14 minutes of TV per day; with the average individual American watching four hours and 35 minutes a day. According to an article in Fortune magazine, both figures are the highest ever …”

The “faithful” used what was available in their day. At the time of Jesus, prior to the “New Testament” writings, the faith had the Hebrew scrolls (i.e. Old Testament). When the “New Testament” letters were written, these were distributed to the congregations and read to/by the faithful.

Hope that was a typo, as I never correct spelling since I am lousy at it.

But, person? Is this JW terms I dont know of?

I dont have cable, and dont watch anything but morning news.
My child gets one program a day (half hour minus commercials I edit)

Thats it.

The husband watches sports only if they are “important games” maybe no more than once a month.
