Men - how do you feel about your wife seeing a male physician?

CORRECT! There’s no changing my mind!
I fail to undestand why it is that Homers expects us all to respect that he is not going to change **his **mind on this issue, yet he seems to feel that we must all change our minds to suit him.

I must say that I am so grateful to the medical personnel of both sexes who have treated me in emergency and non-emegency situations with genuine compassion and care, with no violation of any sort even implied. And I would like to add that I have felt more violated by various males when I walk around clothed in a way that satisfies Muslim standards of propriety than I have ever felt by any medical examination or treatment.
A woman laying on a table SPREAD EAGLE
Are American examination tables wider than those in the rest of the world? And never placed next to a wall either? 😉

More abuse of clothed women occurs than of partially clothed women. You need to get some serious help for your paranoia.
I don’t know, I smell jealousy more than paranoia. NO MALE EYES SHALL SEE MY WIFE BUT MINE! He doesn’t seem to care about quality of care, just about gender of the provider. I wouldn’t dream of telling my husband who he can have as a doctor and I would expect him to respect any decision I make concerning my medical care.

Culturally and historically, men with views like Homer’s tend to consider women as personal property, as chattel which rhymes with cattle.

Property? Are you kidding me? My wife is her own person, and fortunately for me she shares the same convictions that I do. 🤷

Vivienne…Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut. I am not trying to change anyone’s mind here. If you have a guilty conscience because of my opinion on this issue, sorry I can’t help that. But my wife has more respect for herself and our marriage than to submit herself to any non-emergency intimate male gyn exam when it can be avoided. Plain and Simple!

You also state that you have been treated in “emergency and non-emegency situations with genuine compassion and care, with no violation of any sort even implied”, well you’ve probably just have been fortunate.

The state of my conscience has absolutely nothing to do with you - that is between God and me (and my confessor as God’s representative) and I would thank you not to dare to pass any judgements on the state of my conscience - try the Bible on judging others!!!

Also do not jump to conclusions on how much respect I have for myself, based on your wife. My husband and I had tremendous respect for each other and for each of ourselves.

Yes, I have been one of the vast majority who have medical treatment without any of the issues that seem so dear to you.

Once again, it’s not about jealousy, it’s about respect and honor for yourself, as well as for your spouse and marriage. Correct, NO MALE EYES SHALL SEE MY WIFE BUT MINE, is correct, unless of course there is an absolute medical emergency or necessity. I most definitely do care about the quality of care my wife, and my wife chooses her own doctors.

Judging? Who’s juding? I am not qualified to do that. It just seemed like you were expressing a guilty conscience or something?

Also, conclusions? No conclusions here. However, I must ask the question again, what self-respecting woman would ever submit herself to any non-emergent male pelvic or gyn exam is beyond me.

Homers–I don’t think anyone cares that you prefer your wife to see a male physician, I think the problem is your delivery to some of the women on here…that they are somehow not respectful of their bodies, and themselves, to be seeing a doctor for their ob/gyn exams who is male. That’s the problem.

As an aside, Homers, I think it’s kind of silly to think that a man is going to put himself through 4 yrs of undergrad studies, then 4 yrs of med school, and 2 to 4 more yrs of interning, and specializing, just so he can see naked women. :o It’s kind of insulting to those who undergo such measures to become good doctors.

Are there perverted doctors in the world, sure. There are perverts in just about every ‘industry,’ and walk of life. I think if your wife only sees females, that’s great. But, don’t broad brush the nice women here, by saying they don’t respect themselves if they are seeing male doctors. Your perspective from a male point of view, is your own, and you don’t have to defend it. But, there’s no need to tell women that they are disrespectul to themselves…

Jim, good question. Well, I’d have to say that my wife possibly doesn’t feel as strongly about me possibly having to see a female doctor, as strongly as I may feel about her seeing a male gyn doctor. As you know, there are many different areas of medicine, dentist, ent, etc., and my wife also has a male dentist. I also try not to have a double standard where this is area concerned. If I ever had the need to take it off, 1.) I would try to make sure to have a male doctor, and 2.) if I had a female doctor, for my wife to also be there.
Once again, it’s not about jealousy, it’s about respect and honor for yourself, as well as for your spouse and marriage. Emphasis mine. Sure sounds like your view her as property to me, specially since you don’t even hold yourself to the same standard. You would let a female Doctor see your private parts with your wife there, but you insist that no male should see YOUR wife’s parts but you unless she’s “code blue” (I’m still trying to figure out why you would need a pelvic to when in need of immediate resuscitation) which means your willing to RISK HER LIFE before letting another man see her vagina. Sersiously, I can think of a lot of things this smacks of, love and respect for her person aren’t any of them.

Thank you for saying what I am too hurt to have been able to say.

Your judging all women as not self-respecting if they don’t follow your non biblical, archaic view on sexuality and modesty… You just said so yourself above.

Tell you what sounds like is going on here. Someone has a distorted view of sexuality in thinking a woman naked in a “vulnerable position” is about sex and they are projecting there own view on to a group of others.

As a matter of correction to your first paragraph, perhaps you meant to say that possibly no one cares that you perfer your wife to see a “female” physician.

Also, no one called anyone disrespectful. All I did was ask a question. If anyone draws any conclusions or has a quilty consience, I can’t help that.

So, why even take a greater chance then?

Homers…a chance on what?

Homers–here’s the exact question:
*However, I must ask the question again, what self-respecting woman would ever submit herself to any non-emergent male pelvic or gyn exam is beyond me. *

Sounds rhetorical to me!😛

Constructively speaking, I do not have a double standard here, and so long as I am present when my wife is being examined intimately by a male doctor I really don’t have a problem with that either. However, I must also qualify that my wife and I would want to make sure that no other option was available us. When a spouse is present, I would say that the chances of any proprieties occurring are about zero.

A chance of a woman exposing herself to a male doctor to possibly be violated.

Rhetorical, perhaps…

What have YOU done for your marriage today?

Whatevergirl, I hope you don’t mind me using your prompt, “what have you done for your marriage today.”

-Wouldn’t all of you ladies like to be able to say to all of your husbands, because I love you so much, and value our honor and intimacy of the marriage, I chose to protect our intimacy as much as possible.

Do you realize how powerful, and how much love, devotion, and honor this shows. Just a thought…
