Muslim fury grows at Pope's speech

The pope didn’t accidentally say what he did. He did it for a reason. You don’t pull an obscure quote like that up by mistake. He also knew how people would react. I personally don’t think he’s that stupid. He is doing the right thing by saying he is sorry for how people are reacting, while not retracting his words.
Yes, he was asking for dialogue with Islam and he got his reply, didn’t he?

Here’s the perfect opportunity to love and forgive even those who hate us, and yet I’ve never found it so hard to do so. While watching these people burning figures of the Holy Father in a fit of rage, thirsting for blood of innocents and “holy war” in the name of God, I’m tempted to hate. If there’s anyone who feels as tempted as I do, we should pray for strength to love our enemies.

He’s apologised  Are Muslims are ever not angry?
He did not say he was sorry for what he quoted. The statement issued said he was sorry for the fact that it offended anyone. IMHO these are two different things.

I just got done reading a few online blogs where people were defending the pope. what i found so laughable about some of these sites was that about a few months back both the authors and the people who commented on the websites were just recently calling the man 4-letter words, accusing him of being a terrorist and terrorist sympathizer deserving a traitors fate. why? simply because he did the umpardonable sin of opposing the war against Lebanon among other things contrary to our foreign policy. hypocrites. all of them.

Right on! They don’t consult us before making public statements, why should we? They were spoiled with JPII who looked for good in all. That was then this is now. Benedict is not wrong just different, and for good reason I am sure.
I stand by the Holy Father. Both of them.
I think B-16 is looking at the numbers and realizes that the European population is shrinking, the Christian population of Europe is practically non-existent and spiritually dormant, the Moslem population is burgeoning on his doorstep. Add the religious intolerance of Islam and the fact that with a billion Moslems in the world and about 10% of them are fundamentalist jihadists, that leaves **100 million people willing to kill themselves by flying airplanes into skyskrapers **(I’m from New York; I take it personally).

If the Islamic world should assault the West in a concerted, political way: with government backing, now is the time for the West to invite the attack: while there’s still the ghost of a chance of coming out with our skin (and faith). Of course, they have all the oil. Oil alone is the winning factor in a modern mechanized war.

Maybe it is time for you to show them just how to defend the Pope

fat chance people like them ever learn. I swear some of the flip-flopping there made John Kerry seem like a one-track minded guy

I’m so sick of all the bleeding hearts. I’ve had it with these Muslims. They are uncivilized and they threat women like dogs. They are totally disrespectful of our spiritual leader, and burn and spit on him, and we’re all supposed to include these people in our societies and expect them to respect our ways? And all because of a few words said that they don’t like. I don’t like them!

I agree. 101%

Are Muslims ever not angry?
Not that I have seen. There seem to be many people in the Muslim world who have effigy-making materials and special outfits and signs at the ready for the next occasion of outrage, as well.

How many people in the USA have the makings of an effigy of a Muslim leader or his picture at the ready to burn?

Well…an apology by The Pope would probably be misinterpreted - that he did not mean what he said …

Yet, an apology from every person in The Church, asking The Lord for mercy , in the words -’ I confess …to what I have failed to do …’ would be in truth …this on behalf of generations past as well…

We - who have chosen to ignore, mostly by not praying for , fasting enough …trusting enough … at many levels , that one powerful promise - ’ that they be one that the world may believe’…

And now we can look at every nonbeliever and apologise - this could have been a brother , who would have had the grace to repent …

Do we not have enough history and other attributes that are easily seen in Islam , for us to know that if things were diffrent in The Church, in those early years ,and we in The Church had used the many chances for unity thereafter , this judgement on us may not have been …

and what hatred unmitigated through generations can be like …

Yes the words of regret of The Pope too - for a people , who are not able to repent …to see Truth …

Yet we have hope …may we not let it pass …there are scheduled talks for unity - of a people who share The Holy Mystery …yet for ’ mysterious ’ reasons , not able to come to One Table …

As The Bl. Mother called for in Fatima ’ pray much’ … if only we too could enkindle the zeal …with faith …and pray much …hope much …

Peace !

He’s just following a tradition of amazing popes who were hated by the world for telling the truth.👍 Like Jesus said, they will revile and hate us for His name. He was delivered up to a shameful death for rebuking sin and preaching truth, His vicar is going to have to expect to not be liked. The servant is not greater than the master
Yes, this is good for us Christians to remember when we speak the truth. I agree with your statement.

However, I disagree with Bl. John XXIII’s quote about all evils having “a single cause and single source: ignorance of the truth.”
Satan and the demons know the truth but choose to reject it. Of course, most men who reject Jesus as God don’t know what they’re doing. This includes most non-Christians, but maybe not all. God is the only judge of hearts.

It becomes a test to our Christian values to see the Muslim reaction here.

I actually had to stop myself from wishing for a brief second that we start a Crusade and be done with this problem.

Then I asked God to forgive me for that thought. I know I will think all kinds of stuff if I look at the news, so I am avoiding the near occasion of sin.
I agree. If we consent to feelings of hatred within us, we’re well on our way to crossing over to their way of thinking. It’s really difficult to control our emotions during times like this. Best to just turn off the tv and pray!

Good heavens, man! Have you no humility? You not only pronounce judgment on this pope, but have the temierity to speak for another now dead?

Anna
Here you judge me with nasty words in the process of accusing me of judging the Pope. The irony!😃

I did not judge the Pope, but merely expressed my opinion about the wisdom of using inflamatory words in his speech, knowing the fragile state of relations with the Muslim world.

Also, in his life, John Paul II, used words which changed the minds of terrorsist so, I’m not speaking for him, but rather stating an opinion based on how he related with the Muslims and would have continued to do so, if he were still alive.

How right you are!

It’s interesting to see the reaction of a few people in here on this issue.

Turn the other cheek hasn’t set into their formation process, from the looks of it.
