I am not surprised. These nuns traded in their habit for pantsuits in the 70’s and have never looked back!

I wasn’t and am not a fan of the loss of habits. I also think nuns/sisters aren’t treated with as much respect because of the loss of the habit, though I can’t prove that.

This is fine.

However, if you were in the US, you would likely be familiar with the post-Vatican II activist sister set who gave rise to the “pantsuits” mentioned. Many of them in my day went even further. My first grade teacher was a young Sister of St Joseph who wore short (like well above the knee) skirts and knee high boots. It raised eyebrows with the parents.

These days, sisters in USA who need a practical habit for teaching or working with the poor are more often wearing something along the lines of practical but uniform clothing like a knee-length skirt or jumper (US definition of jumper), plain blouse and sensible shoes. They tend to all dress more or less alike. The pantsuit sisters are more rare…one reason being that by now a lot of them either passed away or left religious life. I have also read that new recruits were not drawn to the “do your own thing” style of clothing and prefer the habits, even if they’re a modified practical version for 21st century urban work.

Right, many of them really didn’t want to be in a religious order for purposes of prayer or obedience, but wanted to do social activism on the Church’s dime. There were some sincere ones and unfortunately I think a number of them ended up martyred in Latin America, but a lot of them ended up quitting over one thing or another. I didn’t find them too inspiring myself.

Women’s Liberation was very damaging to women religious vocations, for more reasons than just one. If women could be teachers or nurses or doctors or school administrators without needing to bother with a vocation, why would they? From a secular POV, there is essentially no reason to be a sister with an active apostolate, because anything a sister can do, a woman can do just as well without the burden of celibacy, poverty, or obedience.

Maybe they were members of the Little Sisters of the Poor.

From the article:
:One thing hasn’t changed. Those who oppose the Little Sisters of the Poor still can’t identify one woman who can’t get contraceptives without help from Catholic nuns. That was always strange given how many employers were exempted for reasons like administrative convenience. It was also ignorant about theology: For many faith traditions, mission-driven service outside the walls of a church is a central command.

The Little Sisters have never subsidized a single birth-control pill or intrauterine device. They have never covered contraceptives in their health plan. So should the court rule in their favor in Little Sisters of the Poor v. Pennsylvania, no woman would lose coverage.

The states claim, contrary to the federal government’s own admissions, that the Little Sisters’ religious beliefs are harming women who can’t get contraception. But in nearly a decade since the Affordable Care Act was passed, states haven’t identified a woman who lacks coverage under the current religious exemption, or any other exemption.

Do the underserved women the states claim to defend exist, or is it all a political ploy to bring down religious exemptions and the faith-based ministries that rely on them?"

If I remember rightly, Mr. Biden has pledged to go after the Little Sisters again (as did his administration during the years of the Biden/Obama administration) should he become president.
Yes, memory served me well! Here’s a reference:

Which is a perfectly good reason to not vote for Joe Bide … its one of many - very good reasons.

My parish priest, without being explicit, is pretty clear that Trump is right choice. I’m friends with him on Facebook as well, and it’s pretty obvious he’s not voting for Biden.

Our priests have said exactly nothing about the election and all the parishioners appreciate that very much. We know where they stand and they know where we stand. I receive compliments there on my button “I VOTED” but everyone is civil and knows enough not to bring up partisanship when it’s pointless and possibly divisive among Catholics.

Oh my priest hasn’t said anything about election explicitly. But he goes pretty hard on abortion some Sunday’s during the homilies and it’s pretty obvious what he’s saying without saying.

Am I the only one who saw lots of priests attending BLM “events” a few months ago, some even “taking a knee” as if worshipping something?

That stuff, at a pro-Marxist, anti-Christian, anti-family event is fine but a few religious sisters attending a GOP political rally is the end of the world?

Seriously?

What a ridiculous notion. Do you think it is a scandal to support Biden?

Wow, the big supporters of late term abortion, some say infanticide in some cases and someone says it’s not a scandal. . . .

My position is well known.

Not. a. scandal.
An opinion, and rightly yours. But is it true? What about the facts?

For me it is hard to say, because facts are twisted by ideology. I know that personally will twist facts to suit my ideology, and can not see this with out bias. So I have to keep thinking about it, trying to look objectively until one day I get it. Who know, might be 20 years from now. To say that this nuns create scandal with Trump and not Biden is bias.

But to say that this nuns are creating scandal, is interesting and would require some research in to our history and what the church has said and done. Something to think about, with any candidate, not because it is Trump. That is just nonsense.

I’m friends with him on Facebook as well, an
As long as his bishop is okay with him being on FB because some diocese have that antisocial (for the lack of a better word) policy. You don’t even see priests here on CAF anymore.

Also, the Nuns on the Bus are an interesting type of Sister who call themselves Nuns for P.R. purposes…
Reportedly, they were going to go with “Twisted Sisters” but got flack from Dee Snyder.
