Agreed.

Obama in touch? Did he ever play little league baseball?
How about soccer and basketball? He may have played those. 🤷
I never played in organized sports either.
Romney was raised in the USA. Went to church on Sundays, just like all his neighbors and friends.
Do Democrats not attend church as well?
Devotes 10% of time (and more than that of his money) to charity work.
Obama’s charity work?
I can think of better ways to decide on a candidate than by checking his or her tax returns to see what his or her charitable donations were. If someone were generous to a fault, but wholly pro-abortion, ought we give him or her a pass on that? I, anyway, wouldn’t.

Exactly. How can a Catholic support Obama?
My dad attends a Monday night novena and rosary at our parish for an end to abortion and protection for the unborn. He was speaking to a woman there who was voting for Obama. I marvel that some cannot understand the hypocrisy.

Yahoo! News:
Political ad TV party: Obama loves ā€˜2 Broke Girls.’ Romney? 'Andy Griffith.'
Mitt Romney may or may not secure the presidency of the United States, but he appears to be in an optimal position to win Mayberry. ā€œThe Andy Griffith Showā€ is the second-most Republican-leaning program in the country, as measured by the partisanship of the political ads that run during its episodes. Only the Olympics saw a higher percentage of Republican ads, according to a Yahoo News analysis of the filings reported to the Federal Communications Commission by the TV stations in the top 50 media markets.
Since August, the FCC has required stations in the top 50 markets to report all the political ads they air, giving us some sense of when and where campaigns and outside spending groups are spending their cash.
I analyzed the raw text of 14,000 of these filings and extracted about 50,000 individual records of a campaign, super PAC or party committee purchasing advertising time on a specific show. In the following interactive, you can browse through any of the 86 shows that came up at least 25 times in the sample. Click the buttons to go up or down through the shows, or use the bottom button to choose a show at random.
The next big show for Obama ads is Big Brother.
Hmmm . . . Broke Girls + Big Brother + four more years = 🤷

Rich, surely you must see that I was responding to someone who wants to vote for Obama because he is more ā€œin touchā€ with the average American than Romney is.

I merely pointed out some Americanisms in which Obama clearly did not participate.

Soccer wasn’t an American sport during my grade school and high school years. It was softball, baseball, and field hockey. Soccer is relatively new in the school sports arena.

Either that, or you are in favor of the red herring theory of debate. šŸ˜›

As do I. Hopefully with 4 more years Obama will be able to take a more socially progressive stance with no worry of an upcoming election.
The complete antithesis of what any faithful Catholic would want.

BTW, rolling up your sleeves and helping the poor is a great way to get ā€œin touchā€ with people, both the poor and other charity workers.

Does Obama even know what a frozen casserole for St. Patrick’s center is?

How much more socially progressive do you want him to get? He already approves of SS ā€œmarriage,ā€ refuses to uphold DOMA. Approves late term abortion. HHS mandate. All in defiance of CC Teaching.
It depends on how one defines ā€œsocially progressiveā€.

I do not support SS marriage, abortion, and the contraception mandate- though I support socialized medical coverage.

When I say ā€œsocially Progressiveā€ I am referring to actual maternity leave consistent with the rest of the civilized world not a bastardized system which is basically short-term disability, paternity leave, a living wage, increased support for social programs- especially aimed at pregnant teens and young mothers, affirmative action and hate crime legislation, immigration reform that doesn’t include ā€œhigher fencesā€, etc. etc.

I believe that government can help to build a more just society.

Okay.

Unless you went to a northeastern Catholic high school full of 2nd generation Americans.

The smell of dead fish is not unfamiliar to me. šŸ˜›

Like washing dishes where you’re not wanted giving your hosts fear of being labelled partisan? šŸ˜›

I’ll bite your hook, Christine. What is a ā€œfrozen casserole for St. Patrick’s Centerā€? šŸ™‚

That explains why you’re a Democrat. So far government on a federal level has shown it can actually do any of that on a sustainable basis. That’s why I’m a Tea-Partier who votes Republican.

Greece, Spain, Italy. Wages in Greece have fallen 50% while cost of living is the highest in the the EU. NPR Morning Edition 10/23/12.

No Thank You. :nope:

What? He’s been doing this his whole life. Must be Obama you’re talking about.

I’m sure most of the ā€œbiased right-wingersā€ here on CAF could tell you. šŸ˜‰

Football, not baseball, is now the great American pastime. I don’t think either Obama or Romney played football, but you can ask a fact-checker to find out for sure. Obama did play basketball, however.

Personally, I prefer the pickled herring theory of debate.

How about Canada, Germany, all of Scandinavia?

Have you ever been to ANY medium sized city in Europe. Well, you don’t need a car because public transportation is sufficient or even superior to owning a car.

In the US you can really only say this in NYC or Boston.

Also without increases in social support for young mothers how do you suppose to end abortion.

Do you think ā€œpersonal responsibilityā€ will cut? Cutting food stamps and welfare programs? Do you believe church soup kitchens, maybe giving out a few diapers will serve the needs of the thousands (millions) of new mothers who would have otherwise gotten abortions?

As you know I work (though temp. unemployed) with the poor and have in several cities. These parishes and private docations are great but they don’t cut it.

There is no peer reviewed study that shows medicaid or welfare spending reduces the abortion rate

There is evidence welfare as a social program does not lower the abortion; welfare may increase the abortion rate; as welfare decreased, abortion rate did

True, I did leave football and basketball out. How could I forget football? Football games at the all boys Catholic High school were where the all-girls Catholic school girls could meets boys. ā¤ļø

Love pickled herring. I have a jar in my fridge right now. šŸ™‚
